Does anybody know if this is available for the ibiza tdi110 mk3? I think it has the same partnumber like the cupra 1.8T.

Thx guys :)

should be exactly the same part.

I was thinking some time ago to saw maybe 5 centimeters off of the gearstick.
Is this something clever to do?

I've done in effect the same thing by swapping the knobs. I know others who have chopped the shaft - painful, ooer! - with no ill effects.

Painful? to me it means cheap in the good sense of the term!!
Is the part Ibiza Evo 2 is talking about in effect just a shorter gearshaft or there's something else?

I think it would work best if you fit a nice heavy gearknob after cutting. :)

It's a modified shifter mech which changes the leverage

Solid steel does the trick ;)

hhmmm, so i guess it's kind of different compared to my solution. then, which is the original part and which the "shorter" one? Costs?

I presume that on the picture the black one is the original but I'm not sure. The pic comes from dieselgeek.
This part is a part from the gearbox. If you open the hood you can see this next to the battery (at the ibiza mk3).Switching this with the other one makes shifting shorter.

Aaaahhh, yeeesss, I can remember now, it seemed to me something I had already seen!!
Well, in mine actually it is not coloured in black (anyway I will check better).

Anyway, chopping the gearshaft should shorten the distance between the gears, am I wrong?

Now paulo, it is your turn: how does changing that part allows the shifting to be shorter? any possible damage/major wear of some parts doing that? what are the costs?

The new parts has to be longer (or maybe shorter, not sure) than the OE unit. This means that your hand on the gearshift knob has to move less, but the part where the cable's located moves the same distance as it did before.

Not sure if I made it clear but at least I can understand it... :hide:

damage, don't think so, but you might get more wear on the synchronizing mechanism.

Thx paulo.
The thought of wearing more than normal the synchros keeps me far away from this thing!

I don't.I know sombody who has it on his GolfIV TDI150 4-motion and he likes it very much  .Infact,it's the one on the sprint movie against the clio RS :D

I personally wouldn't worry that much about the added wear, as I think you won't have any problems in the cars lifetime unless your hard on the gearbox.

This makes me think a lot. I'm always worried about gearboxes life (you should remember prc!!). I know many 110's had bad gearboxes out of the factory and broke 'em down after a while.

What is the best way to use a gearbox without harming it?

I'm asking this because I feel a quite bit of a resistance to engage 1st and 2nd when cold (I know this is normal, but I always worry when forcing it to engage).
I have a sport pedal set, and the clutch pedal can't go this much down when pushed because of it. Well, I mean, it works ok, just that half of a centimeter less than normal, so I don't think it should matterm should it?

If you're not using the clutch pedal propely then you're not doing yourself any favours. Cut the back of the pedal if you can or just get some TT pedal covers. Match engine revs on downshift and you'll have a smoother ride and les strain on components.

Yes, I already cut the back of the pedal, now it's much better.
I normally don't have any extreme downshift, I noticed tho that on the other car of the family (1.4 75hp petrol Polo), 3rd to 2nd downshift is much smoother even at high rpms than on my beezer.

Yes I remember, and know that some of the ibiza boxes didn't come out from the factory that well, but I still think you shouldn't have any big problems unless your really hard on it.

Good point Ed..
