View Full Version : Moved: which tuning box..
Okay for a PD engine...
Dragon Tuning Box or Van Aken Tuing Box ???? Opion's
Dragon - Direct plug in simple sorted.
Van Aken - Has power lines to battery & I guess if I open the box it can be tweaked??
Any thoughts guys.. Im currently running the dragon, just curious to know the difference....
couldnt comment on them personally as i have no experience of either of them, but just from gut instinct i would say the va aken one is better, i know they have been tuning diesels for ages, right back to the old mechanical injection ones so they really know there stuff.
Oh well - rip the bonnet open on Sunday & have a play..... Either way next week one of them will be for sale...... Dont need two PD tuning Box'es....

You only just bought the one!?
Yeah it's like comparing food from Aldi to food from Marks & Spencer.
Van Aaken are very well renowned, and very expensive because they are seen as the best.
Dragon on the other hand...

Or like Toms MK4 Ibiza to a Hippo

All are very good if you want to save some money I have one going spare, was thinknig of sticking it on ebay for about £60 as buy now so let me know if interested / offer and we might be able to sort something out.
its a plug in job as a passthrough with a power adjuster and an cable to on and off it.

Can't be arsed searching for the thread but apparently the van Aaken boxes are identical internally to the East Coast Racing ones.
This was posted by a guy on the UK MKIVs forum who worked for the company that built them. Blue casing for East Coast, Grey for van Aaken, and the East Coast ones are cheaper.
lol I have both .....
Ian I know... But the other one err landed in my hands... Ssssssh ....
I've had a Tuning Box (not sure if it is the Van Aaken one though - bought it from a company in Sunderland, and I think it comes from Holland) fitted to my alhambra PD SE for coming up 3 years now. It is SUPERB. A mate of mine has a Galaxy with the same PD 115 engind fitted, so I can jump out of mine and drive his to get a back to back comparison, and the improvement is incredible.
Before that, I had a Tuning Box (from the same company) fitted to my Galaxy Ghia X TDi 110. It improved power and torque alright, but you could feel the point at which the box cut in, and felt like an 'add-on'. The PD Tuning Box is seamless- you just can't feel where the Tuning Box chimes in; usable rev range is increased (it will pull 4th cleanly from 1300-red line, and the torque feels like one unstoppable wave from about 1400rpm.
Fuel consumption is virtually unaffected. The first 4000 miles in the PD returned 42.1mpg (these are actual figures, calculated from mileage and fuel in, not taken from the over optomistic trip computer). In the 46000 miles I have had the Tuning Box fitted, fuel consumption has averaged 41.7mpg.
It doesn't smoke any more or less than the other Alhambras I see around here, and it only needs 0.5 litre oil top up between services.
Direct Line insure it very reasonably (they now cover modifieds), and my local Seat dealer has been quite happy to service the car and honour warranty claims (such as they have been).
I don't think that you would be able to peel my Tuning Box open though - the whole stainless steel box is potted (filled with resin). Getting through that would certainly kill it. Besides, I really don't feel the need. By the way, fitting it was a doddle - 15 mins tops, and it nestles nicely next to the battery, wrapped in a sheet of anti-vibration rubber.
Here endeth the advert.
just dug thru' my old receipts.
Company in Sunderland was called Seigerland. Helpful bunch, but I dn't know if they still sell these.

Siegerland were the old importers of the Original Tuning Box which Stu runs on his Leon, these were good quality boxes (on the non PD engines at least).
When VanAaken were tweaking my old Beezer they said their boxes were different to my Original Tuning Box, so whether they have a digital processor inside instead of the potentiometer in the Siegerland box I don't know.
Be interesting to hear a comparison of driving them back to back (hint hint Stu....)
