Hi guys,

I am in the process of de-badging my car (97 16V cupra). I have the large plastic bits that go either side of the seat 'S' logo in the middle of the boot hatch (they aint exactly badges but u know what I mean!). I was led to believe that you could remove the lettering from the inside so that you were left with the blank plasic. Mine currenly says 'ibiza' on left and 'gti 16V' on the right.

Any thoughts or ideas?? Can u still get em new??

Cheers

You should be able to get them new still, and they came in two different colours aswell, Red and Black.

I think it is just a sticker so should come off okay, just use a bit of Meths to clean off any glue wots left.

Gerry - are you referring to the black inserts with silver lettering that fit into the tailgate numberplate surround bit (which was available in red or black depending upon model)? I would imaging that it's a black insert with silver lettering on a red surround on a valver anyway...

I've never had one off, but would guess that the silver lettering goes on and the black is then applied over that. The outer surface is quite a high gloss finish suggesting that it's actually a clear plastic insert painted (or decaled) on the inner face. If this is the case, you'll have to remove the black to get down to the lettering, and you may be letting yourself in for quite a big job here Gerry.

Thought about this a bit more last night Gerry - if you want plain inserts without text, why not make some yourself? Shouldn't be that hard and you have the existing ones to use as templates...

I like the sound of making up my own inserts, i hadnt thought of that, but i bet it would work a treat!
