Just booked mine in for a 20k mile service as its approaching 19k now and i'm off to Jersey in her next month. Got quoted £245 inc VAT! What the hell are they replacing/servicing? What kinda prices have you guys been charged?
Don't know whether its just me being a tight Yorkshireman, but i thought it was a bit steep. BTW i rang around a few local dealers and they were all pretty much the same price give or take a few £££
Cheers Guys ;) [B)]
and therein lies the flipside to owning a TDI
I know the 40k gets even more dearer as that's cambelt time.
but i'd guess at 20k it's brake fluid & most of the filters, oil blah blah & plenty of labour.

Bugger, so you reckon it sounds about right? Thinking about it, my Leon Cupra cost about £160ish from memory.
Might have to get rid before i hit 40k then :D ;)
It should tell you everything they do in the Service Manual.
I decided to get my car 10k'd just before it was 12 months old. The extra things they do on the Annual Service didn't justify an extra £70 in my opinion.
i can't remember which tdi member i asked about this - but it would be of interest to compare costs of tdi vs petrol ownership (real numbers not pretend mpg) over a 40k period
Tdi's are dearer than petrols to service.

Sounds about right mate, although I don't think I paid quite that much. The 40K could cost you about 400-500 if done by a main dealer.. I got mine done by a local VW specialist who used authentic parts for just over £300... and as block exemption is in place, so long as original parts are used the warranty isn't voided.
Plus.. they did a better job, and took more pride and care over their work than any of the dealers that I've used in the past have done
£500 for the 40k? Ace :D

Really the costs to service a petrol or a diesel should be about the same as there is not a lot more to be done on a diesel. cam belt change every 60,000 according to my service book and all they seem to do over and above a 10,000 service on the 20,000 is check the belts and fuel filters check gearbox and final drive oil levels and change the pollen filter seems a lot of extra money to do sod all. mine is due in about 4,000 miles so I might enquire as to how much it is and what they do. I always tell them to leave things like tyre pressure, washer fluid and airfilters alone as I do all that my self.

The cambelt is due at 40K on PD TDI engines
I know its better to change it at 40,000 but it does say 60,000 in my service book only the alhambra gets it changed at 40,000 all the other engines with pump injectors it says 60,000 . mine is an april 03 model just incase somthing has changed although I do know also that the service book could also be wrong (It does happen quite a lot) so I will check with the dealer closer to the time. My mates 115pd tdi (audi) gets it done every 60,000 aswell. Have a look in the inspection and maintenance plan see if anybody else has 40 or 60 stated for cam belt change.
you should allready have it. Its the one you get the dealer to stamp when you get your car serviced its got a list of everything they do and at what mileage for all the petrol and diesel engines in it on page 9 through to 11. Just noticed that if you only do short journeys in your car you should change the oil at 7500km which is about 5000mls I did not know that. Its the first time I read it tonight very interesting you also have the tensioner replaced with the cam belt no wonder its pricey.

Timing belt is deffo 40K, I had a long discussion with my dealer about it, they did some checking and confirmed it.
ooops. hey how much is it worth to save you doing it at 40,000 I could print copies and make a fortune.

I would get it done, my engine deffo needed it, it had begun to sound like a transit by the high 30,000s
Can I really get to punch Richard Brunstrom. We have to put up with that T@@T in North wales Its a nightmare bloody mobile speed cameras sites on every road leaving my village I am doing really well not to have points on my licence.
No I agee with you totally I have always changed belts early cos things can get very messy when it goes. has anyone ever had a cam belt snap on them it must be gutting.
oh no the old how many miles for a belt change on a TDI... check here we had a nice discussion about it on uk-mkivs :-
http://www.uk-mkvs.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=26905
But to summarise it seems that its 60k for PD engines later on, the early ones had slimmer tensioners and belts hence only a 40k interval. Non PD TDIs are 60k as well.

I've noticed a big difference with oil:
my old mk2 petrol didn't seem to use any oil (it was always at the top mark) and it was fairly clean-looking.
my TDI has done only 9000 miles and the oil is low(ish) and really black and nasty. If it wasn't due for the 10k I would have got the oil changed soon anyway.
I do frequent very short journeys of 3-5 miles and then fortnightly to monthly journeys of 50+ miles.
Just checked my service book...
Ralph I don't need yours, mine says 60k too! :)

£233 at the excellent Ted Johnson's in Barnsley (with free half day lounging by a swimming pool and having a sauna at the local hotel, gratis with the service - must remember to go and use the voucher.....)
Mind you I thought it was still exceptionally expensive!

I was in Richardsons in Plymouth today glancing at their menu of prices. Judging by the leap in cost they change the cam belt & tensioner at th 60K service. they quote £450!

Ive just realised my stealers are not so bad after all, I went for a 20K service last week, I was told it would be about 200 pounds. When I went to pick it up and pay they only charged me 180.
