View Full Version : Tuning.who To Go To?
I AM LOOKING FOR A 200BHP AND ABOUT 215FTLB CONVERSION,
AND WAS WONDERING WHO I SHOULD TRUST TO DO A GOOD
JOB ON MY PRIDE AND JOY.ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FROM ANY
ONE WHO HAS HAD SUCH A CONVERSION WOULD BE GREATLY
APPRECIATED.
David
There are too many to go into specific detail on.
ABT
AmD
APR
Jabbasport
Superchips
RSD
Upsolute
Have a look back thro previous posts, and get a feeling for what other people have had done.
That way you will be better informed, but dont just go of what people tell you, see how you feel aboput the different companies you speak to and who you feel you can trust to do the work to your satisfaction, then make an informed choice.
Just dont base it solely on price, its not always the best option
Good Luck

Do you want features such as cruise control?
Switchable performance programme or Standard program, valet mode? - APR conversions do this for example.
Do you want a dedicated chip upgrade done on your car for your spec and preference? - Jabbasport will do this for you.
Many choices.
Good luck choosing.

David, I went to AmD to get my Leon done, no hardware changes just purely software and is mapped to your car on the RR, which I liked. Came out with 220 bhp and 241 lb/ft, well impressed!
I haven't had any experience will any other guys but was impressed with AmD, going to get a set of koni's put on and an Eibach anti roll bar soon.

Hi guys, I am new to all this so you will have to bear with me. Have just purchased a Cupra which has received treatment from the boys at RSD, I love the car, love the way it drives and handles, and I cannot priase RSD enough for the work, support and help that I and the car have had so far. Plus the previous owner also cannot give them enough praise. Depends how mush you have to spend, and how you liked to be dealt with!!!

Hope things continue to work out for you.

Opinions are like assholes.... everyones got one.
NOT everyone WITH EXPERIENCE with said customer service will agree as has been said many a time.
and YES I am one of said very dissapointed customers.... for those who are new here.
We won't go back there though eh... its been flogged to death as we all know.
"210" my arse. In dreams maybe.
Bill
Most of these tuning companies should have a demo car,APR have for sure,so its a case of try before you buy !!! Just don't believe everything you hear, such as wild BHP figures.

Hi again guys, sorry if I ruffled some feathers with you bill, it wasnt meant that way, and I am sorry you havent enjoyed your treatment from RSD. Sometimes as you rightly say that is just the way it is, some peoples perception of customer service is different to others, I work in a customer service industry, and I understand good customer service when I hear and see it. Am quite happy with RSD, and have no reason to want to change!
What about all the other RSD customers out there, what are your opinions, I realise this has already been spoken about before, but I am new to the forum!
I look forward to having my car put through its paces on the rolling road sometime in the not so distant future, and to see what the magic BHP/Torque figures are, but at the end of the day is is how it feels, handles and drives on the road that counts, and each individual likes a different type of drive me thinks!
As Bill has said opinions everyone has one. I decided to take my Leon last year to RSD, and yes all sweetness and light, great service so it seemed, nice blokes went away happy with my Oettinger conversion.
Since then a few problems arose, i had some simple questions as to why things were the way they were and whenever i phoned it either rang and rang, or i was told i'd be phoned back never to hear from them.
Seems to me thats the common ground for customer services, so people saying I work in customer services fills me with little confidence. :p
Anyway after a lot of two and fro-ing, i was eventually told, if i wasn't happy they'd take it off. Being happy was never a problem, all i had was questions and maybe i was expecting too much to get some kind of informed intelligent feedback from them.
And after seeing my ECU installation, i can't see how they intended to reverse their handiwork without seriously damaging my ECU component.
Anyway, i decided rather than dragging it out and having them touch my car again, i bought myself a new ECU, and had it chipped by APR instead, who are truly informed, and have a real customer service policy that works.
Nothing up with the product though, it works no doubt about that, produced 206bhp and 229lbft of torque last week at Stealth Racing, the APR squeezed a bit more bhp and slightly higher torque levels.
But the APR options in my opinion make it a much more attractive system.
Only gripe i have is the level of customer service and relations being totally non exisistant, only thing I can say, is they are fine until you have a problem, then they crawl back under a stone.

To put things into perspective, I am very happy with my chipped Ibiza and it goes like stink, never again would I contemplate a standard one... Mine was chipped from new, so I have not had to live with standard power, but on the occasions I have had a loan car or demo one, before I bought it, the chipped version gives me a huge grin.
My gripe has always been to its actual power level, compared to the claimed TUV output. Mine has never read this power, but was sold as TUV'd to the minimum 195hp chip - 207hp "210" conversion. It has failed to achieve the claims on every rolling road I have taken it to. As per ZBOYD's comments, when push comes to shove and you need to call on the after sales customer service, the void appears. Its sad, as initially you could'nt hope to find a better company. After my reality check I have a very different opinion based on my experience. For info, as my car was sold by amethyst with their "210" conversion, amethyst are my 1st and only point of contact and I deal with them. Behind the scenes RSD supplied the Oettinger and other "210" bits and are Amethysts supplier. My contract is with Amethyst not RSD.
Amethysts customer service has been superb to date, and something others should learn from. As in most things business related, it can take years to build a good name and minutes to loose it.
Enough on this though, eh as its depressing typing and recounting these whole affair over again.
See you on Saturday maybe?
Lety the beasts loose eh? and have FUN, which is what all these conversions is all about.
Enjoy.
Bill
:)
My two-pence worth:
I have not had chips done to my car by RSD but last year were after some 16V cams off RSD - as Tony told me he could get Schrick's from Oettinger at a 'good price' - almost half price that from PMC the official Schrick importer as it turns out. I ordered a pair of cams and was told 7 days or so for delivery - they would come over in an order of other stuff that was coming from Oettinger.
Weeks went by.........I rang, and rang, and rang, and rang and on the occasion the phone was picked up Tony was busy and would call me back, he never did.
Not what I would call good customer service.
In the end I got him to admit that there was no way he could get the cams at the price he told me and this took over 4 weeks......4 weeks totally wasted. I told him then I would tell everyone I know what crap service they give so now I have.
I wouldn't buy off them again if I could get it elsewhere.
This is a shame as Danny is a pretty reasonable guy and has been very helpful to me in the past.
Cheers

Always found them to be fine in my experience, taking mine up this afternoon as my fly by wire throttle appears to be fecked and I'm happier them looking at it than my local SEAT dealer who may get snotty about the mods.
I'd recommend them personally. They'd worked on my previous Cupras, and once I'd driven their demonstrator I knew it was the conversion for me.

Thanks for the support here Petrolhead, glad to here there is someone else out there with confidence in RSD, maybe the others just have the wrong attitude to whoever they speak to! and as for ZBODS comments about people in customer service he obviously has no experience in running a business to make such childish comments, or maybe he just managed to get out of his pram for an afternoon feed, get a life and crawl back under your rock.

So im childish.
I can see you really do work in customer service. thanks for that.

Guys not need to fall out over where we go and get our chips etc etc!
At the end of the day some people will have good experieces and good luck to them and some will have bad experiences!
No one is right or wrong and the point of the forum is that everybody gets thier say and not everybody is gonna agree with your comments all of the time!
From mosy of the people that I know and have spoken to they have renamed RSD "ARSED" as in cannot be ARSED, cheers for you money now "F*** OFF"
Ah well, just packing my toys back into me pram ready for me to run it round the track tommorow!

Went to AMD for my conversion , 193BHP & 232 lbft Torque.
The car is mapped on the rollers so the remap is specific to your
car only , i.e not a massed produced chip that bolts onto any
beeza 20vt. Price is £650 inc vat.
Customer relations , well theyve been brilliant .
Had a problem with my car which the dealer blamed on the chip
AMD phoned the dealer after a call from me and told them to post
ECU down to them for acheck. after checking it and running it on
another car it was given the green light and sent back to the
dealer, who then still coldn't get my car to work. Dealer phones
AMD and askes them if they would't mind talking through fault
diagnosis' to get the car running which again was no problem,
After an hour fault was traced back to something that had
nothing to do with the ecu.
So my 2p worth is AMD ( brilliant) Dealer (WANK**S)

Yeah I am taking my chipped pram on the track tommorow, its got 19's on and an awesome suspension system on and does 0 - 60 in 2.3 secs!

I'm also a very happy customer of RSD & would recommend them very time !
Unfortunately certain people have had a bad experience...Ok that's a shame !

If you read it properly, you'll see i went away a very happy man from RSD, also i have nothing against the product they provide, but i find their lack of support and understanding a bit of a stumbling block.
All i wanted was some simple answers and got shirked off and told a pack of lies. So i vote with my feet, i could of been much more malicious, but im not that kind of person.
Im very happy your happy but it aint goin to stop me saying when im not happy about something, and i dont want to shoot you or anyone else down, there is 2 sides to every coin, and doesn't stop me putting my view across as much as you have the right to put yours across, theres no need for the abuse and i cant say i used the same low level of abuse thats come out of you to describe anything.
Maybe my comment about about customer service was sarcastic, if so i apologise, but i didn't come out with the level of abuse your spouting.
This is a public forum, and i'll view my opinions however i like, and if that means complaining about something when im less than impressed i will, just as much as i'll praise something when its good.
Like i say glad your happy with them.
blackcupra you seem to think that their customer service is good (and don't seem to like people disagreeing with you), what did RSD do customer service-wise for you? Or do you mean they took your money and fitted a chip and you have had no problems yet ('cos that has nothing to do with customer service, that has everything to do with the sale of goods act).
Do I have a vested interest in protecting the name of RSD? No. Am I thinking of getting my car chipped? Yes. Does the experience of ZBOYD and ibizacupra persuade me that RSD should not be shortlisted? Yes. Have I read anything negative about APR,upsolute or jabba? No. Would I be more unhappy and more scathing if I was ibizacupra? You bet!
So, come on - if they have offended you for rubbishing the customer service of RSD explain your experience - we may then be enlightened! (that sounds sarcastic, but it is not meant that way).

i called rsd to order a spoiler and grille and found them overly helpful in taking my money but after that was just a farce. first they said i'd get my parts next day- nope. so i phoned them on friday, when i finally got an answer that is, to be told by tony he'd call back in half hour - 6pm still at work and still waiting i tried their no and noone ans, thx alot. so called sat and again fobbed off that theyd call me monday. monday comes and i have to call them and get the we'll call u line again. after frank email i get resp from danny who says he'll get on it and couriers had tried to deliver parts, just a shame it wasnt to address i gave them. wed now and another call to find my parts had been delivered and signed for at my home address not my work one they were supposed to come to, so i asked them to find out who had signed so i could tell who had them, again i waited and waited no return call, so i had to go knocking on doors to find my stuff. this was after sending blunt fax to them telling them if i didnt get a call asap i'd cancel payment - bit late a week after making cc payment - and still never heard from them.
so my opinion is if u cant be at their door everyday chasing them theyll treat u like a ****. tony had better stay clear of track days etc cos he's asking for a slap with his attitude and i'm in que to give him one.
that doesnt mean they dont supply good products, but heaven help u have problems with their stuff or are in a hurray for the parts. my advice dont pay up front use cod for deliveries.
i told them i'd flame them for arsing me about and here it is, i'm glad i'm not the only one tho cos now i dont feel like a moaning ass.
as for tuner - jim at starperformance - knows the real meaning of customer satisfaction and is one of a very select few who i trust and beleive when it comes to my car. top marks!!
Just thought that I wold update the guys about how my RSD Tuned Trolly went at the track day!
First lap was not too bad to be honest and then the speed of customer service went pretty downhill from there! :D :D
The 2" Wheels fell off as the P1 came past me and the bodykit fell off when F2 Stu's Ibiza came past me!
Oh well, never mind eh........ They think its all over, I am off to Jabba Sport, It is now!

Good morning gentlemen, well I trust we all had a good weekend? Fun on Saturday? Especiallly those in Prams with 19" on, did you need wheel spacers for those?
As I said earlier on I did not want to fall out with anybody, and it is obvious to me I have touched more than a couple of nerves with some of the gentleman from the Seat Drivers Club!
Thanks go to V6Dub for his assistance!
One of you fine gentleman asked about my customer service experience with RSD, so I shall tell all. When I first started looking for a cupra, I went down the usual roads, and found an RSD car advertised on the autotrader web site. I contacted RSD who very kindly talked at length all about the car, owner, and there experience with it, I was impressed at the time they spent with me on the phone, and found them helpful and friendly. Once the vehicle had been purchased I had several more questions to be answered, and also some work to be carried out, suspension adjustments, and new tyresfitted. After talking with Tony Roberts, who booked the car in for me, I was told the price I would pay for the tyres (Cheaper than elsewhere!) and told that fitting, balancing, and the further suspension adjustments would be free. I asked about further mods for the car, and was given prices availability and pro's and con's. I have also enquired about which Seat dealer to take my car to for its regular servicing, and Tony has rung my two nearest dealers, told them about the car, and I have even had a call from my dealer saying they will more than willingly take the car on for servicing! All this and I havent spent a penny with them yet.
That to me is good customer service, RSD are not bothered if they never see me, or the car again, but they have been friendly, prompt, and helpful from day one, and more than that I am happy with the car, which is the most improtant thing. I think this is like any other forum I have ever been on, there are a group of so called fanatics, who at the slightest mention of something they do not like or agree with just shoot that person down in flames!
I will carry on using the site, because I like to keep upto date with what is new to the market, and what people achieve with there own vehicles, but join the Seat drivers club........not a chance in hell, with attitudes and opinions like some of you have got, it is very easy to understand why clubs stay a minority!
Have fun with your cars, that is what it is all about, I will no doubt see some of you at various track days etc. etc. I have always liked seeing how people react when you throw the doors open for comments. It is a shame that not many people have had good luck with RSD, but as I said before, maybe the problem lies with your attitudes, not the company.
The customer is always right.
Enjoy :)

I have kept out of this thread as it is not my place to comment, but I will not have comments banded around dissing the club. You say it is a minority, it is a bloody big minority, and a lot of people put a lot of time and effort into it. If anyone thinks they can do a betetr job, let them try, people have before and failed.
I accept that some of the things that have been said on here are strong, but they are owners experiences, as are yours. I am sure many people have had good service, and a few have had bad, but the old saying goes, when the service is good, you hear nothing, but when you upset someone it gets spread everywhere.

What has the Club got to do with any of this, when any of the club members post in this forum unless it is in the SDC section then it is thier own views and nothing to do with the club, this site and SDC are two diffferent things!
At the end of the day most "arguments" on here seems over and done with after a couple of days and pretty well natured, but it would seem that you would like to upset most of the people on this forum with your comments, and I for one would not want to see somebody like you in the club after reading the comments that you have made!
Instead of amking silly comments from behind your PC, come into the real world and show your face at a track day!
Good day to you!

You need to distinguish individuals from the Seat Drivers Club or this site... All of them are independant. If you want to take part in some SDC activities etc like track days etc the join... they have nothing to do with criticisms or opinions with any tuners.
Where you might associate me (or others perhaps) and my well documented grievances with said tuner, with this site or SDC in some sort of official capacity you would be mystaken.
You have had good service so far, others have'nt. thats just a simple fact. There are opions in very different poles on this.. best leave it at that.
Enough has been said on this, and I have nothing to add. I know what I know, I have experienced what I have experienced and I have a very strong opinion now based on that. Will I go out of my way to provoke anything else.. NO. It has worn thin, and I have lost hope and any confidence. This one is chalked up as experience. Will I forget - NO. Not a chance!
Enough is enough..

Well said Bill...... May I suggest that we move to close the thread?

A little harsh on yor assumption about the drivers club, but i do see your point.
What you have to understand is that the majority of people on this forum have used one supplier or another or a mixture of suppliers.
As you have no doubt done in your own consumer experience, if you receive good service, then you will return to that retailer for future business, if you dont like their customer ethos, then you wont.
A number of people who frequent this forum have had good and reliable service from RSD, namely Petrolhead Paul on his old 8V and his current 20VT and Lee Chung who has his 20VT tuned there, to name but two.
Conversely, Zboyd and Ibiza Cupra have had various "tuning" carried out by RSD. Zboyd was happy with the product, but the AFTERSALES were, by his reckoning, poor.
Ibizacupra too, when he had questions that needed answering, found that HIS experience was poor.
This does by no means imply that people within the SDC are biased towards one tuner or another. I obviously can only speak for myself, but when the ever tiresome question of "who to tune my car" i always put down the entire range of SEAT tuners (to the best of my knowledge) as to keep the peace.
We all know the ins and outs of this ongoin saga of who is pro-RSD and who isnt. But that is an individuals choice, we have no right to pass judgement on other peoples shopping habits for christs sake.
We either take peoples comments on board and pass informed remarks, or shut up, this bloody subject is doing my head in, and im sure im not the only one.
Lecture over
Saul
Neither Pro-RSD - or Negative-RSD JUST for the record
Saul, nice weather today mate, the sun is out and time to take the car for a blast! ;)

That would be Ok with me.
Whatever... people should know the sp now..
Lots of choices and decisions for people to make for themselves.

but as I said before, maybe the problem lies with your attitudes, not the company.
come off it m8, all i asked of them was a phone call to keep me updated or to explain why my goods were delayed etc and they had neither decency or courtesy to do this even after saying they would. that in any book is lying, so that is their attitude not mine.
isn't it illegal to bill you & charge you prior to dispatch?
Ok enuff already, i know im no angel on this subject, but its been done to death, and its annoying as hell.
Blackcupra has his point of view and hes entitled to it, though a less abusive nature may be something to think about if you want people to take you seriously, those of us that have grivevences have ours which we've outlined, its best to make that statement then leave it be.
In regards to the SDC, my views on here have no reflection on the views of the club, its open to any SEAT owners past or present, with whatever tuner they use. My views are my own, if a member wishes to write a piece about their car for the club magazine I wouldn't refuse it if it mentioned RSD in a favourable light or otherwise, cause my personal views have nothing to do with the club or its organisation.
Again to Blackcupra, apologies if any of my comments upset you, but i feel strongly enough that i must put my point of view across when its cost me the kind of money it has to rectify it.
Ive stated my reasons, im not turning it into a witch hunt, ive made my choice and moved onto another tuner who im happy with so lets leave it at that.
I think that Blackcupra feels like i do that whenever you post a comment in favour of RSD you get a public flogging ! This was also commented on by Lee in his e-mail yesterday !
I'm not trying to stop people having their say but many pages on this forum have been dedicated to certain individuals experience with RSD's customer service ! So i think its a shame that a post in support is not allowed to stand without derision & sarcasm.....
I hope we can now put this subject to bed as i no longer believe it is achieving anything but bad feeling.
We have already lost one member partly due to this !
