many many thanx to mr Fernandez for hunting this down in spain for me , cheers bud
The company that modifies the Seat Ibiza/Cordoba factory stereo is as follows:

KP Sport, S.L
Prat de la Riba, 43
08150
Parets del Valles
BARCELONA - SPAIN

Tel: 00 34 935 624 303 Fax: 00 34 935 621 881

Email: info@kpsport.com / www.kpsport.com

The price is approx £125.00 and takes 5-7 days to do. You have to send the unit for them to modify.

I have attached a jpg picture of the modified console.

Hope this is useful!

Has anybody had this mod done or know of anybody? I'm a bit reluctant to send half of my dash to a company in Spain that i've never heard of....

I presume they are the only company we've found that does this mod to the head unit??

Come on....

Someone must of had this conversion done already? Or know someone who has....

I'd really like to hear from someone who has had this conversion carried out on their Ibiza to get some idea of the quality...

Looking at the picture, I'm not so sure I'd like this.
The stereo buttons around the display must be useless after the change....

Hmmm - just dunno.

I'd still rather fit a faceplate into the sun-visor.

I would be very interested to see one of these completed as i have just ripped out my current stereo...

-Sony Minidisc Head Unit
-10 disc multicahnger
-Isobaric twin 10" Eminance
-4x60w RMS amp with Pioneer rears (6x4) in side pods
-Sony customs in dash

out of my '98 ibiza 1.4 as it is being traded in for a 20VT

and now i'm stuck with a casette deck, How ironic is that!
Please tell me its all worth it for the 20VT!!!!

AliBaker
25-03-2002, 15:54
Here is how to take of the centre dash, just in case you fancy taking your car apart!!!

davemcgo
25-03-2002, 16:15
now i'm stuck with a casette deck I'm in the same boat Ali, and I know how you feel, but the 20VT is well worth it - I've even gotten used to listening to the radio most of the time.....

6 disk changer makes a big difference though, but I do still miss having what I liked to refer to my old cars as: 'Dave's Mobile Disco' :p

I am currently working on a nice install for the Ibiza, and will post some piccies when done.

AliBaker
26-03-2002, 10:06
Dave,

Yeah i need the cd changer!! where do they fit in the boot?

Do you know if each SEAT garage fit them in the same place?

If so where on this picture (Attatched) do they fit it?? cos my sub will fit back in here eventually.

If you could mark on this pic to help me out it would be a great help.

Cheerz.

davemcgo
26-03-2002, 10:44
I don't have any picture editing s/w in work - so I can't mark the picture I'm afraid, but I'll do my best to explain...

On your diagram, the changer sits at the back left hand side of the boot as you look in it, with the narrow end against the seat, and the long side running along the wheelarch. Cables for the changer are behind a panel under the carpet on the left wheelarch somewhere. I'm not sure where exactly, cos I didn't have to fit it...

Hope this is of some help. ;)

Hello everyone i use to work for The car Audio Center in Nottingham and had the same stearo problem so i built a fiber glass build that fits neatly in the glove box that holds my stearo.
When the glove box is closed the car looks standard.
Scumbags dont no that ive got a very tasty system hiden in the car! I'll braek out the digital camera and see if i can work out how to post some pictures! its a much cheaper why of putting a stearo in the car than hacking the dash apart;)

AliBaker
01-05-2002, 09:10
Nice one, :)

so , did you need to cut a rectangele in the back of the glovebox to size of the stereo, or did you just replace the entire internals of the glovebox,

very good idea, as you say pics would be cool!

but we're still left with a non useable standard dash.

out of interest please check out the thread with preout mods (if anyones interested in getting a decent audio signal out of the standard headunit to supply amps)

Pre-Outs Thread (http://www.seatcars.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=49276#post49276)

Thanx

davemcgo
01-05-2002, 10:58
Miridor,

Some pictures of that would be nice, cos I'm contemplating fitting the faceplate into the sun-visor, with the actual head unit in the boot.

The glove box is too small to hold anything anyway - so if it would fit nicely in there, that may be a better alternative, although - it means having to drive around with the glove box open...

Miridor
01-05-2002, 16:10
Yeh cut i small rectangle out of the back for R.C.A's and power etc.. Flapper would be able to give you a price on the back section of the box don't think there that much ? certanly cheaper than a whole front facia when you try and sell the car!!
The standard Seat stearo still has power and aerial by way of Y connections so it still lights up etc.. just dont make any sound!
I have a hand held remote and a corded[hard wierd connection so unit can be used with glove box closed] one. These give full controll at your finger tips.
Working on those pics should be able to sort them tonight fingers crossed!
The fibre glass build takes about 2 days to make and should cost know more than £20. OR nothing if you do what my mate did and just bolt it to the top using L brackets [still looks ok just not as smart]:)

davemcgo
01-05-2002, 16:30
Sounds good. Can't wait to see the pictures.

I'm planning on leaving the standard unit operational running the rear speakers (which will be getting replaced) and running amp, sub, another changer and speakers in doors and rear shelf, off my Alpine unit which is still looking for a home in the car... just not 100% where exactly it's going yet...

Miridor
03-05-2002, 23:15
Sorry about the delay hope this works!!

Miridor
03-05-2002, 23:16
And another. sorry about quality bit poor but you get the idea!:D

davemcgo
07-05-2002, 15:54
Looks pretty good, and it's another idea, but I wanted to be able to see the thing - not have it in the glove box...

I've got an Alpine Commander unit, which is a graphic eq. and tuner, so no slots for tapes/CD's in the HU, which means I can affix the faceplate anywhere really....

It'll be decision time soon though - gonna start the boot build this week hopefully....

I'm just about to buy a Ibiza Cupra, and i'm considering how i will upgrade the ice. Like Flapper, i've got an Alpine Commander unit and multichanger. I'm not sure how easy it is to link the faceplate to the unit remotely. Please let me know how you get on, Flapper. I'm sure someone else on here has already mounted an Alpine face in the ash tray?

davemcgo
14-05-2002, 13:20
Crispy,

I've seen faceplates in the sunvisor years ago, and it looked great, but I'm not sure whether there will be any resistance lost through the length of cable required to put the faceplate in the visor, and the rest of the unit in the boot...

mounted an Alpine face in the ash tray?

Another good idea... will be checking sizes when I get home ;)

PS: The new Ibiza has a normal sized HU...

Apologies, i meant you.

Check this out:

Ive been trying to get decent sound out of my stereo through a amp

I tried Rca converter's......Sound poo, interference etc

High level inputs were better but not great, still interfernce etc

So ive now opted for a Alpine Controller, The controller still uses the original stereo as a tape player and radio through speaker inputs but the CD player has a direct RCA connection.

The main bod of the controller is up behind the dash and the screen is mounted in the ashtray.

The result is a clean headunit quality signal coming out and sounds as good as any other stereo.

Problem solved IMHO

Hi mate,

...this looks very promising without the expense of hacking the dash apart.

Can I ask where you got the controller from? I'm assuming it's this one: http://www.alpine-europe.com/2003/products2002/gb/cra_1656sp.htm

I can't find any internet retailers that stock it :(

On the front page scroll down to the bottom and you will see the two arrows. You will need to click the arrow that points to the right quite a few times. It was posted about a year or so ago.

Sorry, I should have explained it better the first time.

Was also thinking about smothing it all off n spraying it, but then thought it would look crappy n too smooth.

Just emailed them, they said the cost is 255 Euros which is about £177. However you have to pay for shipping to spain, and then from what i understand they add the shipping cost for the return onto their invoice.

Close to taking the plunge though! Is the Centre console hard to remove?

Surely the face mounted seperately from the unit itself as spoken before (sunvisor, ashtray) then the face wouldnt display properly? Wouldnt resistance of such fine cables throughtout that sort of distance only increase voltage drops etc? Sounds a good idea in theory, would look very tidy!

Let me know how you get on, hopefully be mounting mine unser the steering wheel shortly...

So does anyone know if there is a conversion you can buy?? or any information at all, i have heard that you can buy a new centre console with a smaller screen and the room to put your head unit in, anyone heard of this or where to get it from??

i had this done but it was similar to Barrys one with the bottons taken out etc. however, the circuitry was bodged and it shorted out making none of the screen or air con controls work! they are going to pay for me to have it redone elsewhere.

is there a place in the South East that could do this work or someone who knows of anyway in the UK - sending it to Spain seems a little bit pointless.
