Flapper,

Have you got any Leon fascia dimmer switches (rheostat) in stock?

Waiting 5 weeks now for my local dealer to receive back-ordered part.....

I know VAG moving the distribution doo-dah hasn't helped, but I also know my dealer doesn't like imports that much.......

Cheers Mate,
Mik

I'm a little peeved 'cos the conversation went like this:-

Me: Can I book my car in for warranty repair please? It's the fascia dimmer switch 4 a Leon ~ I've heard they're a weakness.

Service: (Stroppy) Who told you that???

Me: I've spoken to several Leon owners wwho've had this fault.

Sevice: OK - bring it in

Me: Can I just check you have them in stock ~ you're close to my work as opposed to my home, so I'll need to drop the car in the morning and get it back at night.

Service: Yes - not a problem.

Took car in - called at work:-

Service: Is this an import.

Me: Yup.

Service: You never told us that.

Me: You never asked me that - but you did ask for my reggie, so I assumed you'd be able to tell?

Service: That was just to log you into our computer.....it didn't check the main SEAT system!

Me: How stupid of me not to realise

Service: Anyway.....you need a new fascia dimmer switch.

Me: Uh-Hu........

Service: We don't have any.....I'll need to order one in for you....VAG are moving their distributon centre and you'll have to bring the car back in at a later date.....

:(

Thanks Flapper!

Gadge ~ this was @ Arnold Clark in Sighthill (Edinburger). My only experience of them is as described above, so 'fraid I'm still trying to work out if they are even any good / import-friendly.....'fraid I've no idea if they are mod-friendly!

I've heard good things about Glenvarigills (sp?) in Perth......but they're a bit far away for minor stuff....have them in my mind if I ever need anything more serious though.

Cheers,
Mik

mik - oh dear, speechless, really am! Mine seems to be adjusting itself, now the lowest setting is bright whereas the brightest setting is now radio-active burn your retinas mode. If this continues, I'm going to be worried that bulbs will blow as this is much brighter than when I bought it.

Are you still using this dealer?

mik

Andy ~ still using them? Kinda. This is my only "dealer requirement" to date......

Spoke to another guy on here who's used dealership closer to my home. Won't go into details....but it involved a post-service conversation along the lines of:-
He: You did change the air filter?
Dealer: Of course
He: Then why does it still have "Please Change Me" written across it in black marker pen?

Made me laugh....but real frightening...... :(

Flapper ~ when are Amethyst expanding to North of the Border? (I wish)

PS ~ mine is "painful bright" at all times which is manageable.

More anoying that after 20-45mins all lights "drop out" except dash (speedo & tacho etc) and stereo (!). Most irritatin!

worrying.
Have a , 10,000 4mths oil change tomrrow which is just an oil change

( I assume an oil filter, so gonna put a mark on it and see.

me cynical,,,

Andy ~ you'll have trouble marking it! See my post in TDI a few months back re DIY oil changes.

TDI uses a paper element refil ~ to reach it you gotta remove top engine cover (3 nuts) & unscrew the [i] huuuge[i/] nylon "cap" for the filer housing that's on pretty tight. I had to use a chain-type oil filter removal tool and a rag to protect the cap....even massive 2-handed spanners weren't big enough! The filter element will be covered in oil....so you can't mark it!

Might be worth just popping the top cover and stickin a bit of nail varnish on the join for the oil cap - so you can see it they break it? I know you wear nail varnish...... ;)

Do the above it you're paranoid.......lookout behind you! :)

PS ~ I'm so paranoid I DIY unless it's daft to do so....

Flapper ~ apologies for this conversation in "Amethyst".....just to re-iterate that your reputation puts you outwith my considered definition of a car "dealer"

Thanks Mik. dont think the other half has any clear varnish, so haver to do some shopping in the perfume counter of Debenhams later!!!

If it wasnt for warranty then I would do the oil change myself!
