View Full Version : Creaky Dash

We have a new Imperial Blue Leon 20VT, now with 1300 miles and what a joy it is to drive! I'm now doing ALL the children's taxi runs - but only in the Leon!

Just switched to super unleaded and that really does make it even better http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

It does have one fault - namely a creaky dash on the passegers side. Whenever it goes over a bump we get a clunk from inside the dash. There's also a creak when it has one wheel on the curb - sounds like the dash rubbing the windscreen.

It's going back to the dealers next week - hopefully they'll fix it!

Anybody had similar problems or thoughts about the cause and repair?

Thanks.

I have not had any dash board creaks as yet but i do have an annoying creak coming from the back seat on drivers side. I have only done 800 miles in my leon since new. Do i take it back to the garage or am i being a bit picky and so just put up with it.
Other than that the car is superb with no other complaints.

You say you do the childrens taxi runs. How many children do you have as i have 2 and one on the way. Do you think the Leon will be able to cope with 3 children and the wife or do i trade it in for a alhambra (the car that is, not the wife!).

Thanks

Andy

I get a rattle from the back seat drivers side. In my case it's always caused by rear the seat belt. The spring doesn't seem to be very strong on the inertia reel and the belt doesn't always retract completely.

We have two girls: 10 & 11, so no problems with space in the Leon. Three could be a squeeze on long journeys - but could you really give up the fun drive?! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

I left the squeaks until they got too annoying - but I have to get them fixed - just hope the dealer is upto the job!

If the Alhambra is anything like my dads Galaxy V6 (new shape 24v), which I'm sure it is, then its a bloody excelent car... it easily out handles my Leon.

My Leon has exactly the same problem, really annoying me now. Noise seems to be coming form pasenger side of dash, its more of a clicking than a creak.

Let me know how you get on at the dealers...

Problem not really fixed and the car now stinks of car polish http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/mad.gif
I'll be talking to them today about the next steps - suggestion yesterday was a complete dash removal and refit - 2 days work and how many faults will that add http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif

Thanks - read the suspension thread - but I'm pretty sure the problem is with/behind the dash.

Now spoken to the dealer and it's going in on Tuesday for the operation http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/rolleyes.gif They've convinced me it won't be a problem - let's hope so. The cars just too much fun for this little bit of hassle.

I reported to my dealer a light clunk/click from the area of the glovebox or toward the front of the n/s door and they said they would have to remove dash to investigate. I decided this would probably create more new noises so didn't have it done. The noise is still there at 11,000 miles and drives me crazy at times ! I look forward to hearing what the solution is.
Just received Xenon bulbs from Daz for my wifes Scenic - there was a minor problem, not Daz's fault, which he immediately sorted. Fabulous service - well done Amethyst. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

With regard to my post of creaky suspension, what you guys describe is exactly what I get. I've gone so far as to drive very slowly over rough ground with the bonnet open and somebody sat on the front of the grille listening and the noise is definately suspension related.

If you sit inside with all the windows closed then yes you would swear it was the dash but stick your head out the window or listen when going up and down the ramps in a multi storey car park and its even worse and definately outside the car.

I believe the Cupra has very hard bushes on the antirollbar and these moving against the metal mounts may be half the problem. Usually these are softer rubber but obviously a sporty car like a Leon needs a harder setup hence the noises. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif

Yesterday after almost 10K of fault free driving my Leon SE Tdi developed a couple of creaks and groans, a rather nasty and flustrating creak from the driver side dash (sounds a little like bed springs !!!), and also the glove box open's by it's self ! - apart from that, the cars been top !! I can't praise it enough ! - except the seats are a bit poor for long trips , no proper support unless I shove the seat right upto the steering wheel !!

Unfourtantly there is no sign of jimmy !! and yes I remember the clunk click every trip adverts....

Brilliant - the dash rebuild has done the trick - not a squeak or creak to be found - so far:)

The dash is now rock solid even when you try to push hard on the passenger side it just doesn't move - before it squeaked and squished.

Great job Garney's the car's perfect:cheers:

If you've got dash squeaks and it's still under warranty - I'd take it in.

and if its out of warranty, turn your stereo up! stops most annoying noises i find! hahaha I had a clunking noise once that was doing my nut, turned out that my sub had rattled the bolt out of the rear seatbelt reel and it was clunking around behind the trim panel! whoops!!

Just push the dash down firmly in the area of the creak, I mean firmly, give it some welly. Cured mine, it moved about 1cm on the passengers side and half that on the driver's, you should be rewarded with a a satisfying click as the clips holding it in find their true home - Lovely job. :funk:

i'll give it a try as my latest leon [no.3] has the worst creak out of the 3 cars. i'd try anything before i'd let the dealer loose on it. only comes out with a scratch, more miles on the clock and something else b#ggered[:@]
