View Full Version : APR chip...
Got my motor APR chipped at Star Performance on Tuesday and all I can say is WOW!!! Get one now! WOrth every penny!!!
Also got cruise fitted which is excellent for me as I do loads of motorway driving. But the main thing is the power!!! WOW! WOW! WOW!
Unfortuately, we weren't able to dyno it after it was fitted as the RR had a fault in it but as soon as its fixed, I'll be up there on the RR to see what this thing is pushing out.

Sounds good mate!, have you tryed any 0-60 runs on your timing gear thingy yet?
dave
meeko, just got my ibiza back from ARR,its great to drive now!! just wish they came like that from new.
Nah, not tried any runs yet. Keeping it for the weekend when I'll have some serious fun with it. One thing i've realised tho is 195bhp through the front wheels in the wet is SCARY!!! Traction Control ON and you wheelspin in 1st, 2nd, 3rd!!! QUALITY FUN!!!

Well Meeko looks like youve got one of the first chipped Bezza cupra 1.8T's in Scotland.
Have you uprated anything else yet?
Also how much did it come to all in for the chip and cruise control?
fingers crossed and I too will be APR chipped soon. All just depends on if I can get this overboost problem and paintwork problems sorted soon.
So what are you planning on getting done next?
You got overboost too Gadge?, how much is yours overboosting?,
I thought mine was fixed, but its back again :(
Let me know if you find out whats causing it

Mosser, my car is still standard, dunno what it overboosts to as I dont have a boost guage. It seems to overboost then suddenly go into limp mode for about 10 - 15 seconds. Then back to normal.
The problem is that it only seems to do it once every so often. It has actually been okay for about 2 weeks now.
The car will be back at the dealership on Saturday, but they believe the problem to be caused by a "valve". I personally think its a load of crap, but what else can I do.
I will let you know how I get on after Saturday.
Hmmm, there are a whole shed load of valves littered throughout the engine!!, if they do find it though, post on here!

Very sad I know, but have any of you APR chipped guys noticed any fuel economy improvements or otherwise?
Especially whilst running with Cruiser enabled!
I'm interested in the APR myself, but dont really want to lose more fuel ec. as 100 miles a day on the M4 is killing me already!
Run it in Standard mode when your doing the daily slog, fuel economy will be the same as it is now, ive noticed a marked improvement in Motorway drivng using the Cruise control though.
When you want to have some fun, you can switch it over to Race/Gas mode and have lots of fun :)

What sort of numbers are you talking for economy improvments?
Sorry to be a pain, just trying to weigh up the numbers!
Well i've had a month or so with the APR chip. Fuel economy has settled down to about the same as pre-chipped. I tend spend about 50% of the time in chipped mode and 50% in normal and my journeys aren't really very suitable for cruise control (to much traffic).
It's all about driving style, my first tank full went down very quickly :D
Sorry for the delay getting back to you, been having too much fun in my motor - 145mph and still pulling (private road of course!).
Gadge - No, nothing else has been uprated yet. Still waiting on my Strut Brace coming thorugh then will prob uprate suspension, chuck on a set of 17's with Proxes and uprate the brakes. However, Mr Bank Manager ain't gonna be best pleased with me - Oh well, shit happens! (just a pity it costs so much :P )
Also, as I was the first Beeza Jim had chipped (other than his own), he threw in TBA and Fault Code Erase (would be good for your overboost prob!) progs for free. Ain't that nice of him. Top man!!!
As for economy, first few days were, lets say, not good!!! 24Mpg avg from two tanks of petrol. Ooops! But thn, it was being thrashed!!! Driving normally there ain't any difference between chipped and normal (unless your hitting high revs) and with cruise on in either program you get good economy, esp on the motorways.
Any more questions???

The APR Ibiza Chip can only hold 3 programs, so I guess the Throttle body alignment and FCE are stored differently and operate in a different way?
Apart from the new stalk, can you tell that your car is chipped. i.e. do any lights come on, on the instrument panel, or only when changing programs. I need it to be stealth like, so if you don't know what ur looking for, you wouldn't know it had been done.
:D

No lights.
Stealthy... only cruise stalk .
Bill
You only get lights when your activating programs from the cruise stalk.
Its not something that is easily accidentally done either, as it takes 5 seconds with the set button depressed before it goes into program mode.
So without knowing about it, its very Stealthy, except of course, the cruise stalk, but as its a factory VW stalk, doesn't seem to attract any notice really.
