View Full Version : Head Unit / ICE in MK4
This is my first post here, but from what ive read everyone is really friendly and that so hopefully no slaters! :bleh:
Well, I don't have my ibiza yet, but am getting either a 1.2 SX or 1.4 SE when Im 18 next january! (Dad's helping me buy).
So my question is: Do the MK4 ibiza's have volume / track control for the Head Unit on the stearing wheel? Because I know a lot of new cars (such as clio's) do, and was wondering if so then will replacing the head unit stop these from working?
Also, I need to know if its worth replacing the speakers / head unit and how easy it is to do so?!
Sorry for all these questions being thrown in at once! Just wanted to know!
P.S. Does anyone know how much the dealer Sub woofer is as an extra? I heard its something stupid like £300? And is it good?
Thanks,
Mike.
My new beezer doesn't have any volume track controll on the sterring wheel. The head unit's not up to much, but at least it's not molded into the dash like some, so should be relatively esy to replace. Wouldn't know about the speakers.
Hello and welcome.
1) No volume control on steering wheel. Standard HU is rubbish anyway so replace that.
2) Standard speakers are rubbish so replace those too!
3) www.seat.co.uk has an accessories page, last I saw it was £459. I had one once, bought it from my dealer for £45. It was an 8" sub and amp. You can get top notch stuff for the cash they want!
Since they updated the website, I've not been able to find the list of accessories or their prices on it. Don't know if it's me being thick, though!
OK thanks for your replies! Looks like I will be replacing the head unit and speakers!
Ive got an ok headunit, given to me by a mate (its a kenwood single CD, don't know the numbers but should be ok!) and as for speakers, ill look into that! The new ibiza has 6 speakers right? Can someone tell me the sizes of these speakers please?

They should have 6 speakers, but some on here have still got them with 8 - as they used to have.
Welcome to the Seat "lucky dip" assembly line.
They're 6.5" components, so 4 tweeters and 4 woofers.

Are the main speaker's 6.5" front and rear? Do you have to remove the door card on the front one's to gain access?
6.5s on custom mounts. You need to make MDF brackets for them.
You need to take the door cards off yes.
Even the Renault Master van I had last week had stereo controls on a stalk. Miss them from some old cars as well.
I've still got the OEM speakers (8 in mine) but have an Alpine CD/MP3 head unit and Alpine 6 disc CD/MP3 changer in the boot. Speakers aren't in the best of health anymore :D

I have finally purchased some infinity 6.5" speakers for my ibiza I also brought some autoleads door pods which I thought brilliant I will get them home and the speakers will be in before the early evening. The problem I had was that the door pods I brought do not kit and claim to be for an ibiza. Has anyone had the same problem, how did anyone solve the problem.
Toxxin you mention mdf brackets, can you buy these or did you build them yourself??
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I've replaced my speakers with infinity components, have a 12" kicker SR sub, and a 450w RMS 4 channel amp.
For a headunit, I've got a pioneer deh7400mp.
The difference between this setup, and the standard is huge.
I cheated though, left my car with a friend for a day and he did it all for me.
The Autoleads adaptors don't work, I tried that one too.
Patty you have to make them yourself.

Is it hard to do - I can imagine it to be awkward.
Do you have measurements??
