View Full Version : Throttle Body Conversion Dyno Results

Hi All

Got back from the dyno last night with some encouraging results - how does 216.7BHP@7090RPM and 170.8LBFT@ 5999RPM grab you with stable 900rpm tickover ? 108 BHP / liter - hooray, my goal was > 100. Gain over previous setup without the throttle bodies was 37.3BHP and approx 25 lbft.

I am impressed not just by the power but by the smoothness also. Have posted scans of dyno sheets to Bill B - perhaps you could stick them on your website Bill ? (dont know why but whenever I send attachments to this list they dont arrive ???).

This is a good conversion - cheers to Bill - only needs a better airbox / filtering system to finish it off 100%.

Cheers

Rob :D :D :D :D :D

mmm, that sounds tempting! - I need a pay rise to feed my need for power!
What's the MPG like Rob, and how does it drive in traffic?

Driving in traffic is fine, not far off a std car (and certainly much better than my car with hot cams prior to TB's) - not sure about MPG though - only got it back last night and thrashed it all the way home - needle went down quick ! Normal driving will have to wait and see.

Cheers

As a guide my own Jetta demo runs a tad over 30mpg cruising at 80mph on the motorway on a long journey.
When driven like its meant to be driven (eg on track) the mpg drops down to less than 10mpg approx.
The economy is all in the mapping. - OR NOT as the case may be :D

Bill

PS. Rob I will post your results, but my pc has finally crashed forever (2 out of 3 HD's failed) so I am rebuilding my new one before I download your dynos you sent me. I have seen them and they look suberb. You must be a happy chappy. Well done.! :)

i am parts manager at said garage, unfortunatly i started just after they stopped racing that car and started using the 2.0 16v toledo. i do know it's x seat uk car our sales manager barry used to race it and won many races in it, and it could have been mine but i didn't have the cash at the time and opted 4 a standard 1.8 16v in same colour.

if i can find any details on it i will let u know.

ps - as you are the parts manager, do you happen to know what the VW equivalents are for the engine and transmission mounts for the 1.8 16V Ibiza (1996 N) ? Reason I ask is that I want to get uprated engine + box mounts for my car, no one does them for Seat but they will be the same as VW Golf ones - its just knowing which ones off which model golfs..........

Better or worse than what ? With and without TB's ? If this is what you mean then its better than it was before TB's - 16V's are all pretty crappy when it comes to low down torque, you have to rev em !

I have 276 degree Schrick cams (intake and exhaust) and a flowed cyl. head. Why would I put the std cams back in ?

Torque down low is not great - need to get it going, max is at 6K - Bill B is posting dyno results on his website soon so you will be able to see

Thankyou for reminding me Rob..
the dyno plot of the after t'bodies is more everywhere, getting larger as the revs climb and the engine starts to get going.

My own Jetta runs 152lb/ft torque and >130lb/ft from 2700rpm as a guide, running split duration 260/270 cams.

Robs has 170lb/ft but higher in the rev band, as determined by the cams.

Bill

Hi ROB T,

I'm very impressed by your mods. Therefore, seems to be still driveable.
Have a look to http://www.ClubABF.fr.st this is a specific forum for VW/SEAT 2.0 16V models (ABF is the engine code!)

Hope to see you there
