Well we picked up "Rosa" (1.4 16v, 33 miles on the clock) from the dealers yesterday and they said the engines on Arosas were "pre-run" so there was no early oil-change service... but surely that doesn't mean the engine is "run in" already? Anyone know what this engine pre-running is all about?
Car was delivered with a couple of tiny faults: scratched allow and paint blemish - but dealer (Premier Stoke) pointed them out and has ordered new wheel plus paint-job fix with no hassle.
Glad to hear they are sorting it out mate. My advise is let your engine warm up properly before caining it but be easy on the right foot for a few hundred.

If it's any help i was told 600 miles of easy driving when i picked mine up 6 months ago.
How do you quantify easy driving !?!
Don't floor it or take it too much above 4000 RPM for the first 600 miles. It says so in the handbook.

Thanks to all for their inputs. Yeah, I have read the handbook  (always rtfm), but my question arose from the dealer's comments about the engine being "pre-run". No one seems to know about that.
cheers anyway.
"Rosa" aka "stumpy"
My dealer said it was pre-run in too, but we (my parents and I) were sceptical, so I was under orders to drive it saintly for the first 600m, and not quite full bore until after 1000.
I think I read on here that new cars wont technically be run in fully to about 10,000 miles, but because they're made to high tolerances you can "drive them enthusiastically" from about 1000 on. Obviously it's never a good idea to thrash them from cold, or thrash them at all really =)
as far as I understand pre run is where the engine is run up on the bench in the plant when its made... and effectivly run in on the bench oil changed..
I took the leon steady for 600 mile to bed the brakes, tyres etc etc in then gradually opened it up to full chat over the following 400:)

prerun means that they rubbed down the engine , be it running or manually, usually they have not used the especially watery oil that vwg use on brand new cars , that particular oil must be changed within the first 5k miles otherwise you will do your engine crap loads of damage, ie friction. so keep her low revs til 80 degrees then redline that fecker!!!
