having never been timed, but looking forward to the track-day...
what is the quickest way to get to 60 in a chipped 20VT ?

4000 Revs, drop the clutch and feed the power progressively ??

If its dry then put TC off, pump in around 3500 revs and dump the clutch.

In the wet - HAVE FUN. :D Only joking, depends how wet really, practice makes perfect as they say.

also, if you have no respect for your clutch, shifting up on full throttle, tried it "once" is a good laugh, though second spins a bit much if you catch it too well!!

A couple of years ago I tried doing a launch and 1st gear was fine but when I went into 2nd hard.............. BANG...........RATTLE....RATTLE.... bugger!

Broken 2nd gear... No teeth left on the hub.

DOH!

£1200 later on, rebuilt box with quiafe... Happy chappy.
Broke 2nd gear another time after though :( on a sprint.

This is an 020 box in my Jetta.

I would'nt cane them personally. They aint that strong a box.

I think Jabbasport told me that the Ibiza gearbox is rated at 300lb/ft of torque! Also, surely this is all covered under your warantee.
Also, I floor it in first and change pretty hard into second pretty much everytime i go out! :)

I am talking 020 Rod Change boxes. 02J on our Ibiza 20VT's
Fragile on high torque/power engines.

Warrantee maybe, unless you get the "not for motorsport use" wriggle out. :p

I don't think you can rush the road going boxes as the synchros cannot keep up and wear rates and damage is likely with prolonged heavy use/abuse.

All this talk about the turbo ibizas what about the quickest way to get to 60 in an arosa 16v all joking a side it does get there resonably quickly but i want to get there that little bit quicker. currently i estimate it being 10.6 which is crap if you ask me

I believe strapping you car to the back of a Tornado GR1 would probably do the trick..!! possibly the only way the arosa would be as quick as the beeza.. :p (j/k)

interesting thought having a turbo'd arosa.. hmmm.. that could be an exciting ride.. you could always Nitrous kit it.. heh

in all seriousness though..

I have found that if you 'ride' the clutch a little bit when accelerating hard (bit like the comment of full throttle changes), you can improve acceleration. don't pull your foot totally off the loud pedal when changing or actually 'blip' it when doing so and it seems to keep the revs in the right range and prevents the engine wanting to bog down and the turbo from lagging. clutch will probably wear out after 20k miles like.. but oh well, only do it when someone is pi**ing me off and I want to get the drop on them.

Anyone managed to sucessfully 'dog box' their car on more than one occasion..?? I managed to change from 2nd to 3rd without the clutch by pure luck (banged the gate into 3rd and let the clutch out before getting it into gear), and the revs were just right to get it into gear, but wouldn't dream of trying it again in case teeth start flying.. just wondered if any 'nutters' had tried it on purpose and managed it..?

Ha Ha Ha very funny. Had a race with a maestro 1.6 the other night why i dont know bored i guess plus the kid was with his bird who was fit so i thought i would show her what i nice car goes like.

Race was going fine until for some un-known reason a went from 3rd at full revs to 2nd guess i wasnt paying attention. Put it this way the car didnt like it to much it came to a near hault and every warning light on the dash came on which was nice. Parked up at my mates house went in and hoped for the best on my return.

Luckly when i switched the car on all the lights bar the fuel light went out so i was rather chuffed that i didnt f**k the engine.

Lets put it this way wont be doing that again.

I can 'dog box' my car quite easily through all the gears!, when i'm feeling lazy i change gear a lot without using the clutch, i have done it with all of my cars, but my renault was the most difficult car to do it nicely in!

I shift without the clutch all the time - in doing that I have never had to replace a clutch in any of my cars, since I don't use it much. I tend to use it down shifting and slowing, because I haven't got my left foot braking quite right yet in that scenario, but I'm working on it. Definitely a faster shift if you get it right, but you don't want to make mistakes on a regular basis!!!! :)
