Just been speaking to my local garage about some Goodyears and happen to mention I needed them this week cause I need the LCr servicing. He then told me that I can get it serviced there as anything past a 52 plate can be serviced at any garage and keep it's warranty as long as they use all OE parts and the oil recommended by the manufacturer.
Is this true? would there be serious comebacks if I had to make a warranty claim with the stealer?

Reason I ask is that living in Northampton, my nearest stealer is in Bedford or Milton Keynes (and the MK one WON'T get my business). So taking it to them would mean taking time off work to get it there.

This local garage has got a great reputation and they did all the servcing on my Scooby.

There's lots of info on DTI or other government-sponsored websites. SMMT has info too.

Cheers Mark, I should've been less lazy ;)
From what I've read of the search results I'll be fine untill the 3rd year when the dealer warranty kicks in.
Wish I'd have got off my ar$e and booked it into the stealer earlier, meant to be going to Scotland the end of next week which leaves me very little time to get it to the dealers at a work friendly time! :(

as you stated providing oe parts are used and the garage is vat registered than no problem

working in a main dealer this to me is the beginning of the end as all customer need todo is to retain there receipts for the parts and thats ok as far as warrenty is concerned (vauxhall view anyway) the negative side is that if you get some numpty who has no clue what he is doing the possibilty of future problems are unlimited especially with complex ecu and cambus wiring system's etc

moral of the story is find a good specialist garage and buy your bits and take them to him to fit

i have got an 03 lcr and phoned seat customer service about getting it serviced at another franchise, and they said that the 1st year warranty would not be affected as this was manufactures warranty. the other 2 years are dealer warranty and they would be void. so the new legislation form the government is not worth the paper it is written on, after the 1st year the dealers would not want to know if the car had been serviced somewhere else if something goes wrong with the car. so we have to put up with the appauling customer service and over priced labour costs that all the seat stealers charge. :-o

Neanderthal, Marshalls will pick it up and deliver it back from work if you need them to. They did that with my mum's Ibiza Cupra with no problems.

Hmm they didn't mention that when I spoke to them!
The car's almost 1 year old now and got in it yesterday and the interior light doesn't come on when you open the door and the drivers door window had a life of its own going up and down a couple of times!! I hope this isn't the beginning of end for the electrics!! :(

oh and should have added I'm taking it to Seat for the service...although please don't be mad but Stone Acre were the only ones that could fit me in with such short notice! :-o

I'm surprised that the 4 VAG marques don't have the same new car warranty in the UK. VW and Skoda both provide a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty against defects in material or manufacture on all their new vehicles sold in the EEC. In addition Skoda UK and VW UK provide a further warranty on new vehicles supplied by them through their dealer network which is valid until the vehicle has completed 60K or the end of the third year, whichever is the sooner. I couldn't find details of new vehicle warranties on either the SEAT UK or Audi UK websites - a strange ommision.

Yep, you've described main dealers pretty well there...;)
