View Full Version : 90bhp upsolute
hi
wish i had found this site before i bought my leon as i didnt realise the extent of differances between different models and bought a 01 leon s 90bhp.. 130bhp and 150 bhp leons were all too fresh and out of my price range so ill probably have this a few years till i pick one of them up.
what i really need to know are comments on the upsolute chip for my car ? is it worthwhile and money well spent or is there something else i should try first
( am thinking bigger injectors ). above all reliability is most important so please bear that in mind when offering advice.
also has anyone had theirs chipped in Dublin by Logicautomotive as they seem to be the only place in ireland north and south to get it done ?
thx for any advice
j
ps awayto order my fabia rear wiper, the modding begins :D
leontdi, where are you from ?
A number of people on the site have been UPsoluted. If I ever decided to chip my car, it would be UPsolute. REVO is out of my price range, which I had an interest in.
UPsolute £305 inc VAT - it's more a question of when, rather than cost :)
A chip (whichever variety inc one Markmck is plugging, or even tuning box) will give a car that added Va Va Thud (as your back gets thrown into the seat!)
Chip or tuning box - I'd go for chip
Goot :)
I wuld go Upsolute but don't fancy a 3 hr each way to Dublin so the speedbuster route is close by so defintely my preference in case if followup work being needed
That's why I asked for your location leontdi
I've been Upsoluted. It gives in my opinion, much better throttle response (must chuck fuel in straight away!) coupled with mucho extra torque/power! I reckon my TDi could be running 125-130BHP rather than the supposed 116 or thereabouts the Upsolute is supposed to take the 90 to. But then that might just be my imagination! Before that I ran a tuning box which wasn't nearly as successful (too much lag like standard!). I'm just worrying about my gearbox and differential wear along with other components! There's so much torque now something must give way at some point! Touch wood and it'll keep going!
am in ni but the trip to dublin wont really annoy me, has anyone tried the chip in conjunction with bigger injectors and is it a generic map or a custom map for the vehicle.
would you say it has made your vehicle unreliable? and has anyone used the remote switch with the tdi ?
thanks
j
ps what is the speedbuster option ??
Me I use a tuning box - & have wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey to much fun with it, but then I have tweaked the screw in it.....
Yeah mine was a 90bhp - EDZ i can confirm the 130bhp circa fig.... especially as mine was nearer to 100bhp stock....

have alook at the links for Dave Wisharts number and he can give you more info.
He has a number of maps for cars and can tweak them for each car to suit. HSould be able to do something for injectors too
edz, did the remap make the car produce any more black smoke etc and how have you found reliability?
thanks

raven offa here and seat owners has a 110 with bigger injectors but is holding fire on anything else until he gets a replacement maf (his is broke and has a temp replacement though not 100% compatible), currently churning smoke like theres no tomorrow.
Reliability good so far, touch wood! Guessing i've done over 20k miles since the chipping! I had an airbag problem the next day but I don't think that was related to the chipping as it happens, the ECU isn't exactly fuzzy logic is it! It works or it doesn't work and airbag probs are common anyway! Yes there is smoke. I never had smoke without tuning box or with tuning box only since chipping!
Hth!

I've had UPsolute and injectors on a 90, good conversion and very quick but smokey and economy was a bit pants.
If going for the injector route (not really necessary) try and buy complete injectors out of a higher powered or bigger capacity TDI rather than just nozzles as complete injectors can just be slotted in but installing nozzles correctly is a bit of a specialist job. I ended up leaving mine in the car when I sold it on as it was a huge hassle to get them removed in a short space of time.
prob do about 20000 miles p/a so economy would deffinately be a factor. how badly does upsolute chip affect it??
j
Well I get between 45-50mpg pretty much all the time i think, and that's on a mix of town and long runs. Well 450 miles to a tank at the moment. Although it's weird because it used to go down to 350 miles to a tank, but on average closer to 400 per tank (45 litres)

I don't think the UPsolute chip on it's own will worsen the fuel economy by much, and both tuning boxes I've had made no impact on fuel economy - I think the combination of big injector nozzles plus a chip to supply them with increased fuel made my economy relatively poor, but with a normal UP chip and standard injectors you will have plenty of power and good economy if you don't go for a mental power program (UPsolute have plenty of different programs for the 90).
what's the Leon TDI 90 like to drive stock ?
my wife's eems a big sluugish but maybe that 'cos im used to my Toledo 110.
The wife's Leon seems to suffer more turbo lag and it doesn't rev out as quickly over 3k rpm
Thoughts / ideas ?

i got a quote for dastek for my 16v including rr time and remap 450 plus vat.
im not sure how much for the revo. he did have revo headed booklets though i never got to read one.
think i'll go for the speedbuster as its going to be a better price and much closer to me
can Dave do anything for you ?

from what i was told today i need to get the engine remapped because im detonating way too early on part of my range and my induction kit needs seriously shifted somewhere else.
Oh and my head needs ported but apart from that , possibly, the triple 7 price was a fair bit more than i was expecting. Id need to know what he could do and if its mapped "live" on his RR as my setup is far from standard now.

I got them as part of a complete head from fast eddie on the club gti ni forum. i paid 200 pounds for this complete tested good head.
If you go onto the club gti site you should look on the classifieds section under mark2 or parts for sale, usually a couple for sale at any one time..
the kr cams are standard issue with the mark 2 16v golf (1.8 16v) they are a little bit better than the abf (2.0 16v) version, i got the kr head and cams as my own abf head broke!!
hope this helps.

Has anyone upsoluted a 150tdi cupra yet? If so how was it and what was the gain?
Had my ibiza down at triple 7 couple of months ago at the rr day (still recovering from the Dturbo smog), while i was there i was given a revo leaflet, £490+ VAT for the code and £150 + VAT for SPS 1.
Seems he chips quite a few of these dirty ole diesels! :bleh:
