View Full Version : Aftermarket ECUs and OEM ECU manufacturers
This isn't specifically n/a tuning but there I couldn't think of a more appropriate place (can't seem to post in the engine tuning part but only a subsection).
There's a plethora of aftermarket ECUs but there don't seem to be any offerings from OEM ECU manufacturers such as Bosch or Magneti Marrelli (sp?), or at least they don't seem a preferred option.
Why?
Too small a market for the big boys? Or conflict of interest? Other reason not worth their time and money?
With all this expertise, why not - it should be a good product?
After all, OEM manufacturers produce aftermarket kit for brakes, exhausts, engine components, stereo, suspension etc.

don't follow your point
OEM ecu's can be mapped with the right tools.
The likes of Bosch keep their ecu's and software extremely close to their chest as its secret and their technical edge.
Mass produced vs low volume niche
The ecu's are only as good as the people who programme them ;)
I mean, why don't the like of Bosch release an ECU with whatever tools to compete with the other aftermarket ECUs basically.
I can see that this is a tiny market compared to the millions of OEM ECUs they do so there may simply be no business case for it.

Probably..
Their software tools for ME7.x won't be ideally suited to those who have'nt been trained on them either I don't expect.
Great ECU's, and great there are some software tools which can access 'some' of the tables.

but there don't seem to be any offerings from OEM ECU manufacturers such as Bosch or Magneti Marrelli .
There is a full range of motorsport ecu offering from both those companies, Based more or less on their "series production" hardware (ie ECU, sensors, actuators etc) but with revised and simplifed control strategy / application tools.
Why have you not heard of them, well 2 reasons 1) £££££! even most basic Bosch M3 system is several thousand pounds for just the ecu alone 2) they are not really interested in supplying private induviduals, they concentrate on TEAM / OEM race teams / and Race series support, where there much more £ availible and better publicity.
check the Bosch motorsport site for more info:
