Hi All

Quick question, does the VAG-com use the same port on the car as the Revo SP1/2/3 devices would use?

I eventually want to be using both devices, but dont want to have to keep swapping things over.

Ta muchly :D

VAG-COM is a software program, which mimics and in many ways improves on the VAG diagnostic equipment, its connected to the OBD2 port via a serial lead that connects to a PC Laptop (yes same port the REVO SPS boxes connect to)

SPS is really designed to be plugged in, settings changed then removed. And VAG COM is best used in the same way not permanantly connected, might be a security and safety risk having a Laptop on your front seat, really should only be connected for data logging and fault diagnostics.

When data logging its useful to have someone with you to press buttons and hold on to the laptop. ;)

Ah u see, its not for a laptop :)

I am building and designing an in-car-computer. The dash is housing a 7 inch touchscreen lcd, which is connected to my mini-itc 1ghz+ computer, which has wifi (war-driving, downloading from home network etc) which will play divx, mp3, my gps software already purchased and tested and vag-com etc etc.....

Basically, I am installing this PC into a CD changer box so it is disguised, and removing the head unit and just using amps/subs etc for the audio.

This comp has a serial port and would be permanently wired in to the vag-com but the software may not always be running.

Anyway, this idea may not take off as I am not sure if i really need vag-com. Yet.
Cheers

Yer well you didnt say that did you :p Can only answer the question im confronted with.

However you still only have one OBD2 port so the same would apply, you'd still have to swap over the connectors.

Mark is right, besides why you you want vag com permanently connected?

Maybe you could wire a vag-com type lead direct to the pins on the back of the dia port, leaving it free to plug in an sps? I remember that someone moved their port on an ibiza - might pick up some info from that thread.

IIRC there's only about four five active pins on the SPS, whether that's the same on a vag-com cable I don't know. Another option would be to get an SPS3, which I think can be used as a serial connection - whether or not this would work with vag-com I have no idea, but a quick call to Revo...
