Hey Peeps,

Got myself a new IBIZA CUPRA the other month and just found your website/forum. Kick Arse useful by the way!

Question is as follows, as many of you have probably noticed the stereo, (unchangeable) with cd changer control, is ok as a whole. However the speakers don;t really cut the mustard. I am generally unable to crank my volume up to more than level 10 without hearing some noisy distortion on the bass bits. I am therefore looking at upgradeing the standard speakers.

Anyone firstly know the sizes of the standard speakers? Has anyone done this sort of operation b4 in this group? If so any advice on my choice of new equipment.

Also an amp installation may be viable. Any suggestions for mounting points that I may not have thought of along with whether the stereo can drive such a modification.

Your help is appreciated.

Cheers,

Gambini

The front door speakers are 17cm (6.5") I believe. I've just got hold of the details for removing the door panels which are available in a zip file from the seatcupra.net homepage. You CAN'T remove the speakers without taking the door panels off as they will just snap being melted on.

The rears are 6X4's. They're a piece of piss to remove. Halfords have a pair of JBL's in just this size that might interest you at £49 for a pair?

This I haven't thought about as yet. Seat Sport are going to be offering some sort of upgrade with a sub/amp and speakers in August I was told. Have a look in the threads here on the site for a copy of the email that I posted. It might be under Ibiza/Radio I can't quite remember.

Try turning down the bass setting and turning loud on then whacking the volume up, sounds much better than adding the bass up. I find with a cd that treble on 0 and bass on +2/3 is perfect for a bit of booming without distortion.

Cheers

I upgraded all my speakers in my 1997 Ibiza and believe they are the same size.

I put Pioneer components in the front and Pioneer custom fit 6 X 4 in the back. The front speakers make a lot of bass and volume but the door panels can't take too much without vibrating.

The rears were hardly any improvement and probably nor worth the money. I ended up sticking 8" jobs in the rear shelf (the largest that would fit) which is a HUGE improvement.

Doors in the Ibiza's are very tough and have a lot of weight in them. My Ibiza Gti 2.0 16v i had before my Leon had replacement speakers.

Kenwood Dual Mags, nice speaker, as they have smaller yet powerful magnets they take up less room in the door panel, so leaving some air space beind the speaker therefore creating less vibration.

But what i did in my Ibiza door panels and what i would advise most people to do is get some Dynamatting or Brown Bread sound deadening, put this on the inside of the door panel this should prevent vibrations and help to prevent soundloss and resonance through the doors.

Mark,

How easy is this stuff to fit? Is it just double sided sticky stuff? I'm going to whack some Infinity's in the front, I don't want the vibration to spoil things.

Do you (or anyone here) recommend any online speaker dealers?

Cheers

Just come back from my friendly audio specialist and have decided roughly what to go for in my CUPRA. Gonna go for some Infinity REF4652cf 6"x4" in the rear then some Infinity REF605cs in the front.

The removal of door diagrams will come in very useful indeed. Anyone know the depth of the speaker alcove in the front or whether I will have any problems sinking in the infinity refs. They are 2 & 1 sixteenth inches deep according to official figures.

Also should I go for dynamatting? Ideas appreciated.

Cheers,

Andy yup exactly the Dynamatting is sticly on one side so you can stick it the inside of door panels, they do other stuff, like a soundeadning you can spray into the door cavitys.

But i would recommend anyone who is serious about their sounds to invest in some sound proofing. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

Only joking, if you could let us know how you get on, I'm going to go with the same ones as soon as I've got the cash. Spending the money on a dump valve and strut brace tomorrow first.

Also, the speakers you've mentioned are components, what're you going to do about the tweeters?

Cheers

Mark, I've never put any in before. The Ibiza is pretty good on the road noise front as standard. Will it make that much of a difference?

It would've been bloody useful in my pervious car, Saxo VTR, doors were made of tinfoil! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif

Depends on your point of view. personally i do notice a difference, and yes the Ibiza is well soundproofed as is the Leon, but what Dynomatting will stop most importantly is resonance.

This should prevent you losing good bass sound thru your doors. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

For what it costs, and how easy it is to apply i think its well worth the investment.

I did my entire boot on my Ibiza in Dynamat. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

I don't believe it. Another VTR owner. Just got rid of mine when I got my CUPRA! Agreed doors were poxy. Had a screw driver through mine & stereo wrenched! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

As for the tweet question, am not sure. May look at putting the infinity ones in. Depends on hassle factor really. I'm sure tweets are tweets to a certain extent! Theres only so much symbol hi hatting I can take http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif

Sound deadening I would be interesting in aswell. I must say, the new CUPRA seems pretty nicely stuck together and I have no road noise hardly along with minimum rattles etc. so would question the need for it! But let me know. I will keep you posted on speaker sitch....should order them today or tommorow so hopefully have them installed some time next week.

Cheers,

A

Infinitys are good i had some reference series in my old Ibiza. Just be cautious though they sound infinitely better than standard, but dont expect to go jacking too much power thru em as they can break easily. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif

The Infinity Kappa's are much stronger and better sounding too, but of course they come with a premium.

The Kenwoods like wise sound great but again are that much more expensive.

You could always take the piss like im intending to do and go for Focal PolyKevlar, I presently have a Focal PolyKevlar sub already in my Leon, it is one of the best mono voice coil subs i've heard, but it was £280 for the sub. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif

As you may or maynot of gathered these speakers cones are litrally bulletproof kevlar. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

Its being driven by a Dragster 1202 2ch Amp

I intend to do all my car with the PolyKevlar components to match, but i need 2 sets because the Leon is a 4door, and they are roughly £350 a set, a set would consist of 2 mids 2 tweets and crossovers.

You can see my sub here:

and my previous boot instal on my Ibiza here:

and here you can see my Dragster 1202 amp in the Ibiza which is now in the Leon:
