Went to Jersey last week for my hols and took my car. Literally 100 yards down the road it started making strange noises. Rattling and clattering from the engine bay although it still drives and pulls fine. At some revs it sounds like the exhaust is blowing yet at other revs that noise goes away and develops a very worrying metallic rattle. Took it into the dealers in Wakefield and they could find nothing wrong when they put it on the ramps. Their only suggestion was that a pulley might be loose?
Whilst away, it cut out on me once and on a couple of occasions dumped a load of black smoke. I really have no idea what the problem/s is/are and its pi$$ing me off now. Got the car booked in on thursday for the dealer to hunt the problem down but has anyone else had the same or can you guys think of what it could be in the meantime??
What with this and some of the other niggling little faults i'm starting to get fed up of the car. The alarm is buggered ATM and has been since Jan/Feb (dealer not been able to sort it out), headlight earth breaking, light in speedo occasionally not working, knocking from front passenger side suspension occasionally, starter motor problem.
I'm not thinking of selling it until next year (as was the plan originally) but its just bloomin annoying and frustrating and will make me think twice about another SEAT, especially when the dealers are so fecking useless, although shockingly, JCT 600 have been fantastic the past 2 times i've visited. Maybe they've been taking on-board some the bad comments finally

Doesn't sound good.. do hope they sort it all for you!
Out of interest I take it that you've had more Ibiza problems than you did with your old Leon?? How many miles did you have on your Leon compared to the Ibiza??
I've had one warranty claim in just over a years ownership of my Leon.. rev counter backlight fault..needed new dash cluster. Nothing major at all.

Hi mate,
My Leon was practically fault free from memory. The only problem was when the electric foldy mirrors got stuck when folded in, there was obviously a few aof the infamous Leon rattles (although nothing bad at all). I did 16k miles in my Leon over 6 months (to the day), picked my Ibiza up on New Years Eve with 2,800 miles and its now got just short of 23,000 on it. So i suppose i done a few more miles each month than in my Leon but not a great deal.
I really miss my Leon and it wasnt helped by my mate buying a Leon Cupra TDI a few months ago. If only i'd known the TDi was due when i bought my Leon, i would have waited. Who knows, when i change my car next year, i reckon i'll have a look at 2nd hand prices of them amongst a massive list of cars i also facy a look at

I had this, or very similar. Scared the sh**e out of me! (ask toXXin) Turned out to be a loose engine mount rattling against the subframe, which is kind of scary. I had the exhaust blowing noise, and the metallic rattle. The tech couldnt recognise the noise till I actually pointed it out, and had insisted up until that point that it just sounded like a diesel  I think when I suggested they drove another 130 to tell the difference that helped!
As for your other trouble, I have no idea. All i can say is good luck. I got my car from JCT600 and they were quite a helpful lot, but that was the sales side.

Excellent, cheers for that mate, i'll mention it on thursday when i take it in.
TBH the sales side were excellent when i bought my Leon from them, i also know of quite a few who have said the same. It is/was their service side that was so very poor - not returning calls, crap service etc etc but they appear to have turned it around judging by recent experience - eg went in to get my car booked in at 12pm today - its booked in for thursday with a courtesey car. Took my Leon in with the above mirror problem and they tried telling me i'd have to wait 4 weeks before anyone would even look at it (never mind fix it) and i couldn't have a courtesey car unless i wanted a to wait another few weeks!

Turned out to be an engine mount! After the above post by llameckuf, i mentioned this to the dealer. They must have taken notice and checked it 1st as i had the car back just after 10am. They have done a temp fix and have ordered another new one. All in all, yet more brownie points for a reformed JCT 600 Rawdon - 3 highly pleasing visits now
woo hoo. cool. good to here ali. stick with it ;)
These 04 spec cars seem to be riddled with problems!
I'm glad of my 03, not had that much trouble with it! :D (touches wood now!)

WHile I was on hols I noticed the engine sounded a bit "boomy" whilst accelerating on the motorway, as if I'd got a blowing exhaust, then it went away again. It wasn't very loud, but being paranoid about breaking down in foreign countries my ears were tuned into every slight noise...
Anyway, does that sound like the noise you described ??
And the metallic rattle, do you mean the loud rattle from the gearlever area when in 4th or idling in neutral (seems to be common) or is this a different noise altogether ?
As two people have now had this problem, I wonder if it will become a common fault over time....especially as the failures have been on un-chipped motors that won't stress the mounts as much as chipped ones.
my friends 04 model also has this annoying rattle around the gear stick base, tis very annoying but hopefully sorted when it next goes in.

Sounds similar but the rattle was deffo from the engine bay and not the gear lever - i have that too. It did sound like the exhaust was blowing though, although cruising at 70-75 on the motorway in 6th, it did sound normal TBH. get it into the dealer mate and get them to have a look - could be that the mount is just worn and wasnt quite as bad as mine was? Might be just me, but it seemed to be slightly down on power too.
toXXin - mine is an 03 spec!
The car actually sounds a lot quieter than it did before the mount broke, it is really really smooth now, so looks like it had worn then snapped.
Might sound daft but i washed the car yesterday (also Swissol'd it a few weeks ago too) and it looks stunning. That along with the engine mount being sorted out, i am again chuffed to bits with it. My confidence and happiness with the car has been restored and the little niggles seem to be insignificant again!
Oh bugger, I've jinxed myself now! :S

No nails time!!
I've had the gearstick rattle for ages now. It gets worse as the MAF starts going. I was told by Jeroen Dik (VW Nutcase) hollands best chip tuner that it was due to the flywheel shuddering because of the massive torque being delivered. It can be cut down by tailoring the chip to the car but dissapear on a chipped car no..!!
Another rattle common to the Ibiza TDI is that the intercooler tube rattles against the fuel filter on the lefthandside of the car. Solved it by using a tie-rib to hold the tube away from it.

Nice one mate, i'll keep an eye (or ear!) out for those rattles. My main one was the airbox rattling on the strut brace which took me a few weeks to realise. A bit of foam from B&Q for 59p soon sorted it out though ;) [B)]

As solved with a bit of foam and insulation tape (http://www.muddyboots.f9.co.uk/car/vibration.jpg) on mine.... :)
Well..my car is the wolrd champion of rattles......
Since I ordered it to come with leather seats, all lateral panels, and seats as well rattle as crazy!!!...
I also noticed a rattle that comes from the back of my car, I even took it in guarantee...took them 2 weeks to "try" to fix those rattles, and oh surprise!!!! The rattles are still there, but I got in exchange 3 freaking dents, one of my painted mirrors was damaged, and one of my rhims is all scratched (not to forget, that my rhims are all painted in black, and got them all scratched as well).....would you return your car to get this fixed knowing there are animals fixing your cars instead of persons?....
sheit!!!!
