Hello

I am hopefully going to get around to installing my BMC carbon induction kit this weekend (work/weather permitting). Any feedback on the do's and don'ts on doing this.

What do i need to remove/ leave?? this is the 1.0 engine and not the bigger and better 1.4 16V we are talking about:(

All that came with the kit was a diagram telling me which end was which and a huge alloy hose, which is to be ducted to the outside.

I notice there is a pipe coming up from the exhaust manifold which surely will allow c**p to enter the engine if the internal filter is removed??

New to this game of engine mods so forgive my basic questioning.

Any feedback would be good:cheers:

Hi Kev

You talk of a pipe coming up from the exhaust manifold, I take it you mean the hole that can be seen In my picture (centre and to the right)??? if you are then I was told this was to help cold weather starting, and having fitted Jetex filter last summer have not had any problems with c**p entering into this area.

Anyway does anyone else have this BMC Carbon Induction Kit or the Pipercross kit if so what are the gains in noise and power, as my Jetex filter does not give the result that I was looking for.

I have seen the kit on Gray's 16v'er and it's F-ing loud but I'm not sure if it would fit my 1.4 8v unit

Cheers for the pic Arousa

I have a slightly different set-up in my engine bay, I have tried to attach a picture of my engine but will not do it?? (must be doing summit wrong!)

The hose I am talking about does come up from the manifold where yours is but it tees into the cold air duct that my filter will be connected to.mine is an 8valver too.

what is your e-mail and I can send the pic to you?

Thanx for the feedback.
i will let you know what difference the BMC makes, I bought it because it has been getting good reviews by many VW tuners.

I have an ordinary piper X induction kit was looking at getting the Viper but they apparently dont make it for the Arosa 16v yet so got the basic induction kit instead. Sounds nice but prefered the sound of my drilled air-box but throttle response has improved. Going into the work shops next week one to repair the f**ked airbag bracket in the dash board for the passenger air-bag and secondly to measure the engine bay up so i can force feed the induction kit with some nice clean cold air. Going to remove one of the front grill plates and have a pipe leading from there to the air filter. Should look nice wants its sorted. Will send in pics once it is. The induction kit looks sweet enough at the mo as it is ****ing huge(pardon my french).

Got the BMC fitted!!

What a difference!!

Throttle response is far smoother and seems to be abit more go about 60-80MPH.

I will get the office digital camera and take some photos.

Only hassle was finding as suitable mounting for the huge carbon fibre housing (as you'll see).

There was an ideal 'hole' in the right hand grille for the cold air feed though, which was nice:D

changed my lamps for phillips blue ones, made a difference from the originals, bit fiddly to fit, hope my indicators/side lights never fail cos they must be headlamp off jobs??

Forgot to take the camera home from work last night. I will see if i can take it home tonight.

Basically though, i have removed all the old piping from the original air box and fitted a long plastic pipe that i had off an old induction kit so that one end of it is next to the mouth of the induction kit and the other comes out in the bumper next to the driver's side foglight. To make it look nice and neat where it actually comes through the bumper i have inserted a 3" bass port in to the hole and connected the tube to the back of it.

Hope this makes some sense. I'll try and get some pictures posted to clarify it a little bit.

I have e-mailed my pics to Arousa, who will hopefully post them here?? I am having probs attaching files???

The BMC was supplied by www.performanceexhausts.net

I am looking at replacing the flexible hosing that came with it, for better looking ducting/pipework, any body got any suggestions??

The Carbon fibre housing protects the Filter from the heat of the engine, I am very impressed with it so far!!

Kev, there site isnt exactly very easy to navigate. Did you just email them and ask them if they did a kit for your car or did you manage to find it on their site?

I e-mailed Jamie Whitfield (owner) with an enquiry about induction kits and centre exit exhaust. jamie@performanceexhausts.net

He is very quick to get back to you and is honest in that if something is not available he won't try and fob you off with something that you don't need.

Give him a go

Just sent him an email now to see what they do in the way of induction kits for the 16v. Will let you all know what he says.

Click on the links to see Kav's BMC induction kit on his Arosa

:D :D

Oh and on the way to work today i over took an old porsche 911 so fast that he must of thought he was going backwards, I could tell he was well pissed off, and then seeing my large rear wing, probably added insult to injury. :p :p

I have encountered a small problem to where I have sited the cold air feed for the BMC filter, it has caused the headlight lense to fill with condensation!!!

I take it this is what has caused it????!!!:( The extra cold air being pushed in around that area??

Anybody know how to get the moisture out?? It is the new type headlamp, I thought of a hairdryer/hot air blower (on low setting) on the lense, with the bulbs out to allow the air water to evaporate, any feedback would be nice.

Doesn't look very nice at the mo..

I will try and connect it further down on a lower grille

other option is to leave your car running with the lights on
