View Full Version : Official: New 2005 Toledo (Production)- your comments go here!
following on from our thread on the Toledo, ( http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=35544&page=1&pp=40 ), SEAT have now shown off the production version of the next generation Toledo.
You can reads Zboyd's report on the new Toledo here:-

discuss! .....
personally, I dont think it looks as bad as the prototype. I notice that the Altea bumper is used on the front instead of a sporty Cupra/FR influenced one on the prototype, while the rear is also different, similar to the Altea.
not my cup of tea though....hee hee, I still think its ***** :)
Nice review Mark ....
Still not sure about it - AndyB - I think that image you had earlier (New Alhambra/Toledo estate) could well be the Vario that Mark mentions.....
But it does have a huge boot - Should swallow my weekly fill from tesco's (Last week it was two trolleys! Leon's back seat had to be used!!!)
yeap could be, told Z to add that to the article, he does everything I tell him to do :)
the Auto Express image is very similar to the Auto Bild image, although the German site claims it to be an Alhambra, while the UK mag says a Toledo Estate (but with Leon rear lights- so it could actually be badged a Leon Vario??)
No way its not big enough to be the new Alhambra! - & where's the rear row of seats!!! Pants to AutoBild for that comment.....
re a Leon Vario - doubt it the Toldeo would be the better model to base that on, leaving the Leon as is or as a softop/coupe - Hmm now theres an idea - I should have been a car designer.....

yes, but if the "art" in Auto Express is to be believed, it has Leon lights (when Toledo/Altea would also fit), which would give confusing messages. We are of course basing this on magazine art, but they may (and often) have access to scoop pics
They have copied the back of the bloody Megane! :repuke:

Looks like a vanny thing. I appreciate what they are trying to do though, that market segment is really boring and they are trying to liven it up a bit.
Hope it looks better in the flesh, these recent Seats don't seem to be very photogenic :)

the new toledo's external view doesnt have that strong impression of the old one.....
it looks sh**, no other word for it :D
the gadget list is cool, and the diesel is the new 140 unit isn't it?
but that body is just plain embarrassing
There is a load of info on the new Toledo on www.news.kak.net.
Looks like a SEAT press release from yesterday. I like the spec!
it look shite. doing some thing different willl get seat noticed but it will make the company like skoda went years ago
SEAT have lost the plot so comprehensively that they wouldn't recognise it if they saw it.
WTF is the "young & sporty" arm of VAG doing churning out mini MPV after mini MPV?
we should have a extensive report on the main site later, if the hotel I'm staying in gets its ruddy Internet connection sorted
Quite like it myself.....thinking in 2L TD / DSG form it may make a cracking tow car for the pickle.
Cheers
Rob
:censored: IMO the only thing that makes this interesting is the engine options...
Cant believe they are seriously gonna market this.....its shocking... :thumbd:

I guess they are working on the basis of their "young and sporty" market growing up eventually and having kids/ requiring something a bit....bigger?
Full report, pics and press release on the main site, http://www.seatcupra.net/SEATunveilthenew2005Toledo_100904.htm , thanks to Z for posting it up for me and taking up much of his Friday evening!

that looks naff, Seat have just zoomed in on the Altea design when its been on the design computer and thought , thats it we can enlarge it and call it the new toledo, more like ToleDDDoooooooooohhhhhhhhh!
Dont get me wrong i like the Altea as it is fresh and makes the Scenic and other MPVish cars look naff but to carry the theme through to another car which is meant to be Seats flagship is just naff.
that boot is huge though.
only problem I see is that it's a bit Vel Satis - and they sold *that* many of them

Totally agree. I like the Altea too but really stupid to have the Toledo and Leon looking almost identical . Far too upright looking to be called ' sporty' .Dread to think what the next Ibiza will look like :(
  Seat Toledo Vario, if it makes it into production.

I have no idea what it means (other than something "...shit") but it pretty much sums it up.

:) Well everyone Ive asked likes the look of it bar the highish roofline (not very sports saloon really!) but then I do like the Vel Satis as well! Equipment and engines are sounding good and it is based on the new Golf with its clever rear suspension so it should ride and handle with style... Not long to wait now :)
Saw the new shape Toledo so went and brought one of the older shape ones (on a 53 plate) as the new shape is ugly and as some of the posts have said who wants an mpv shape.....

It was on the back of a transporter with Audi/VW cars on too.
I caught up from behind it on the motorway, thinking it was a black Altea until I was closer. It doesn't look to bad in the flesh, although I couldn't take too close a look without some stuntman type jumping from my car and onto the transporter. Maybe this one is going to be a demo car?
They are due with dealers in the New Year. so very likely a press car, or some of the early demonstrators arriving at SEAT UK, for dealer training etc.
dealer training etc.
Probably showing the dealers how to set up special lighting in the showrooms to make it look less ugly than it actually is. ;) :)
Scott
...by taking all the bulbs out and only showing it after dusk.
(all the demos are probably Black)
Its an Altea with a boot :thumbd:
They have a few down at the training centre in Wymbush, I saw it in the metal for the first time today, sorry guys its ugly, rather Megane like at the rear and that aint good.
The new Toledo has been on sale here for about a month, though I haven't seen any on the road yet.
Went round by the dealers yesterday for a look but I can't say I was impressed. To me the rear end looks vitrually identitcal to a Vel-Satis.
I really don't see the point of this car. What exactly does it 'do' that the Altea doesn't. I can't see it appealing to the traditional saloon car buyers as it is effectively a hatch-back.
Also, where does the new Leon fit into all this? If the Altea is just a Toledo with a 'normal' hatch-back what will the new Leon bring to the model range?

i feel really ill....
yuk...
so we get more "shake that ass" style adverts?
WHO SAW LAST WEEKS 5TH GEAR the prose the presenter spouted he liked it and the renault style back "oh GOD anther presenter with no sense of style"
and to paraphrase the above
"YUK"
another upright people carrier with bustle
John
that will be the same programme that uses a SEAT employed race driver?
no new Toledo for me
this thing is ugly
The Altea is fine but I think it could be new Octavia next time round !!

With all the comments about the new Toledo, let us see it first and drive it. I love my old Toledo and I carry full-sized cellos in hard cases in the boot etc etc. At 501 litres it is one of the best boots. The new one obviously has a much wider opening to the boot ( useful for taxi drivers ). Also a massive amount of rear leg room which would be a great improvement. Unfortunately the boot on the new one doesn't exactly improve the looks. A pity about the looks, as the Altea naturally looks better.
Recently I test drove an Alhambra 1.9 diesel 130 bhp. I was most impressed. The only problem is that the engine will be stopped as it is not euro 4 friendly, not like the new 2.0 litre diesel which is friendly to all folks!!
They actually say that the Alhambra is to stop production in about two years.
I saw a new Toledo in the flesh earlier. I didn't think it looked all that bad.

That must have been on the way out of the pub rather than in !!
Perhaps, it'll grow on me

I dont think the new Toledo looks any better or worse than any new car. They all seem to want to look like different sized people carriers. I really hope the new leon isn't just a slightly smaller Toledo/people carrier.

Except the Altea is no people carrier - check out that sculpted rear seat, especially in the Sport! What it does offer is an uncommon amount of room for four adults and as I think Diesel Car said once, there is no luxury like space. Anyone sat in a Skoda Superb - thats roomy in the back as well! :)

But i dont want space I want a good looking car! I get the feeling I maybe keeping my cupra for a very long time.

I have a suspicion that the new Leon will be best looking. I remember seeing a picture. I don't know if it was the final shape. Altea style, but lower and more sporty looking.
When I was still living in Sidmouth last Summer, SMC Exeter put on a special demonstration of their new cars in West Point showground near Exeter. A wonderful idea and they should be praised for it. I got to drive a 1.9 diesel Altea. I liked it; but there was not much room for the person's shoes in the middle of the sculpted back seat. Too much bulk sticking up in the middle of the floor. I suppose that can't be avoided.
I also got to drive the 1.9 diesel 130 bhp Alhambra and the 130 bhp Toledo.
I really tested the Alhambra and I was amazed. Up the straight that engine kicked me in the backside. It is such a pity the Alhambra's days are numbered.
Just seen the new Toledo at an outdoor 'motorshow' in Darmstadt. The thing is pig ugly!
Just what are Seat (or the bosses up high) thinking, when they copied the VelSatis which sold only 3 cars?
Seat were kind enough to put the Toledo and Altea next to each other, and I can confirm that they are both 99% identical apart from the Toledo's butt.
Now I hadn't even realised it had been relesed yet, so Seat can't have sold many in mainland Europe yet!
Funny thing is the 'slightly' restyled Leon actually looks rather outdated when placed in a Lineup of beezers, alteas and that new hideous thing.
Oh well, I'm off to buy an Audi.

What a shame!! The new Toledo looks horrible. My own Toledo 1999 is a fantastic car and looks so lovely. I know the designers wanted to radically change things; but it looks horribly ugly.

so what's the options
A3
Golf
new Leon
Octavia
Think the new Toledo looks ugly too! I'm glad I have the old Toledo makes it look great compared to that new piece of fat ugly metal! I'm not sure what my impression will be on the new Leon if it takes on the exterior ugliness....thank heavens only 1.4 and 1.6 L engine of the new Leon come to UK next Spring!

It is a great shame about the new Toledo. I know they couldn't make another one like the Bora and Octavia. I am just sorry about that sticking out boot on the new one. I really think they should have considered the looks a bit more. I still drive the older 1999 1.9 TDiSE. I have now done almost 110,000 miles with it. Such a reliable and good looking car.
I am a big fan of Seat and I have been given excellent service by a "platinum" main dealer here in Dublin. I was thrilled with the marvellous service I got when I lived near Exeter. They were so helpful and friendly in Exeter.
I don't know what I will buy next.

Really didn't like the Altea when I first saw it, but seeing a few on the roads and in the right colours and I have warmed to it, I think the Toledo will be the same.

I saw a nice shiny black new Toledo the other day near where I live on the south side of Dublin. It just looked like a large Altea and it looked smart being driven by a businessman. I really hope Seat do well. I get fantastic service weith a "Platinum" main Seat dealer near Rathgar Dublin. Lovely people. They really care and treat you as a pal. I uaed to also have fantastic service with the main dealer in Marsh Barton, Exeter. I think of all those people and really hope that people support them!

Having seen the pictures and a close up in a dealer, I thought "ugh". Then I saw one on the road in metallic blue and thought "this is alright"!
Must be getting old!

I was orrigionally horified by the new shape. When I saw one close up at a dealership. It was siver metallic, which is not the kindest colour.
When I was recently driving a hired vehicle up in the mountains near Nice, I suddenly saw a French new shape Toledo. Funnily it was a metalic silver one. He had the right front passenger door open letting in a passenger in the crowded little town of Eze. The car looked alright in left-hand drive.

i own a toldeo or will do on next monday i bought the toledo for a couple of reasons for its good looks as it looks different not like all the other grey people with there astras and ford focus`s also the space is an issue the boot space in a toldeo excells against anfy of the other seats except the alhambra and i didnt like them also from the front it looks like a the new leon and it has a great tdi engine
at least seat are thinking outside the box wit new and inavitive designs i bet people didnt like the telephone when that was designed and look how far that went lol
thats my opinion and i stand by it !!!
Agree, 23 Toledo owner. Wasnt sure at first, price and package was right at time and still is. I would have a Toledo looks wise over the Altea, The 'arse' really breaks it up at the back and gives something to look at.
Some of the Comments here are on the right lines as far im concerned.

Got a new Toledo sport 2.0 diesel DSG in black, think it's a great car, much better that the Vauxhall Zafira SRi 1.9cdti that I had before it, think it looks great
