Recently bought a '99 V5 and the previous owner was a bit heavy handed with the ice scraper. Anyone got any hints, tips or recommended products for removing small scratches from glass - without it being too expensive or time consuming? Forunately the windcreen is OK, it mainly affects the rear quarter lights.

there are a few good glass polishers in halfrauds etc - not sure it'll do exactly what you need though - it may not be abrasive enough

Thanks for replying fellow Newbie. Looks to be what I need but has anyone used this stuff as I always a bit wary of making things worse! Sorry Mark for not acknowledging your earlier reply - I did look at Halfords stuff but not convinced they would do what's required.

I would also be interested to know if this product works as the wife's car has some scratches caused by old winscreen wipers from a previous owner!!

I'm getting mine replaced via the insurance company.. :p Have glass coverage..

Could use something for the plastic headlamps though..they're starting to get a bit too pitted.

would be interested to know what works as Autoglass said scratches couldn't be taken out of toughened glass

Windscreen wiper marks are more likely to be aluminium that has bonded itself to the glass.

Either way you CAN polish toughened glass. A few years ago a mate and I had an "incident" involving 2 mountain bikes, his 944, a roof rack and a French supermarket car park walkway with a canopy. Suffice to say the huge glass tailgate ended up with aluminium "scratches" on it.

At the time he worked in the motor trade and he spoke to one of the paintless repair people who polished off the aluminum for him. The car looks fine again now, but if you know where it was you can see/feel a slight depression where the glass was polished.

The tailgate on a 944 is most definitely toughened BTW, but you wouldn't want to do what he had done on a windscreen that you look through to drive, it was OK for the sides of a rear window but it makes the optics "wobbly".
