View Full Version : Leon Cupra 20k Service - how much???
Hi all,
I'm new to this, but not to my Cupra which I have had for a year or so. It's been pretty good and now needs to have a 20K service. Newbury Seat are my nearest garage (apart from Emmer Green who I avoid like the plague) and they just quoted £295 inclusive. Inclusive of what I wonder - sounds a bit darned expensive to me.
Any ideas as to how much I should expect to pay for this service? And which garages are recommended (or otherwise). I bought the car at Amythst but it's a bit of a trek, and they don't want to answer their phone anyway for me to find out...grrr
Cheers
John

Mine cost me £216 at my local dealer
Thx,
maybe Newbury Seat add 80 quid's worth of value to the service but I can't believe it. Guess I'll just have to pay up and stop trying to get value for money.
I have a pathological hatred of being ripped off... :(

Cheshunt SEAT want £180 for a 10k service and £280 for a 40k one. Don't have the 20k price, but I guess somewhere in between.

My 20k service / inspection was ~£150. Very pleased. From Ted Johnson in Barnsley. Great dealer, good price :)
£174 for me for 20K, but note that was not a 2 year service - merely an inspection :-o
£130.00 for my 20k service, Car Services Forfar up here in Bonnie Scotland.
S**t there are a few variations in price, eh...and quality as well from what I read on here.
Will probably go to Oxford as the price looks more reasonable than around Reading.

Nope. The 40k service has a cambelt inspection, but not a change. Remember that VAG still reckon 105k for the cambelt, with inspections every 40k.

The VW service schedule is here (http://volkswagen.msk.ru/service/vw_2002_maintenance_sched.pdf), which is very close the SEAT one listed in my handbook.

Having my 20k tomorrow and have be quoted around the £170 mark, the 10k in April this year came in at just under £120 but I did look around and went with a Stealer I trust (a miracle I know). Let you know how it goes though.
How did it go? Get stung??

See above for all the details.
The good news - I took my car to Humphris in Oxford for its 20K and they charged me £154!
The bad news - they scratched the hatchback door, and are going to have to fix it. So another trip to Oxford for me...
Very friendly service but they also forgot to stamp the service book. Grrr

£154 thats good! Snafu don't know if you had a whinge at Seat but this is the email response I got. Read careful as these things always get complicated.
Dear Mr Jonas
Thank you for your further email of 31st August 2004. We apologise for the delay in responding.
We would like to apologise if you feel your enquiry was not answered to your satisfaction. We have spoken to our Technical Department in an attempt to clarify matters. Following your comments we can confirm that the requirement for the 20,000 mile service is for the engine oil to be changed, oil filter renewed and the replacement of the filter cartridge in the pollen filter.
Further to this other parts may need replacing which becomes evident when the service is carried out.
We would like to reiterate that we only stipulate the time for each task.
Although we understand your comments as our dealerships are independently owned entities they are in control of the prices quoted. As an independent organisation it would be inappropriate for us to comment on the literature our dealerships have on display. Pleased be assured that your concerns have been noted with regards to the difference in pricing, we are sorry we are unable to assist you further.
If you have any further concerns please do not hesitate to contact us again by calling our Freephone Customer Care Line 0500 222222 during our office hours of 8.00am - 6.00pm Monday to Friday and 9.00am - 1.00pm Saturdays.

Thanks for your reply. I understand what you're saying but it still doesn't
add up. Please read me original email. You set 1.6 hours for the 20K
service. Newbury Seat charge £66 per hour so 1.6 X 66 equals £105.60 in
labour so that must mean that parts must cost £195 (which I know they don't)
to make up the £299 asking price?!? Basically they are ripping people off by
£100. Newbury Seat where unable to explain where my extra £100 was going.
I visited Newbury Seat today to get some minor warranty work booked in and I
noticed the service price board says "Seat set servicing price list". This
annoyed me as it's not set at all and I know I can get the same service £100
cheaper 35 miles away. This should not be the case!
I would like someone to explain to me why the service board says "set
pricing" and where the extra £100 is going please. This is Newbury Seat and
Emma Green Seat.
PS - I had my 20k service done at Camberley Seat on Saturday. I was very
pleased by the service.

Subject: [Maybe Spam] 20K service £299 - Newbury
Hello Kevin,
Please can you help.
I'm having a few issues with Seat Newbury's servicing department. They want
to charge £299 for a 20K service on my 1.8t Leon Cupra (2003/52). Camberly
Seat which is over an hour away from me however want to charge £195. I have
been in contact with someone in Seat UK HQ and they say you set a timescale
for services but the branch can charge what they want for labour per hour.
The 20K comes in at 1.6 hours according to the very helpful man I spoke to.
Seat Newbury claim they charge £66 per hour which is £105.60 for a 1.6 hour
service. So wheres the remaining £194 going? Oil, oil filter, air filter and
a pollen filter costs £194?!!? I don't think so. It's seems to me some of
your garages are over charging by as much as £100!
I'm sure you can see my concern. I'm very pleased with my Seat but having to
drive so far for service just because my local branch are overcharging is
getting me down!
Ben Jonas
Newbury.

Ben,
Looks like you're doing what everyone should be - not just boycotting Newbury Seat/Emmer Green but telling everyone else about it as well. I think I will follow your example and hassle Seat UK about it. Seems to me their attitude is a bit crap - basically they're saying they're not interested how much the franchises are charging. That's not going to get them many friends out here in customerland... I suggest you tell the BBC Watchdog programme about it (http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/contact) and I'll do so as well, independantly. If enough people complain it will be interesting to see whether Seat's official line changes.

I will do John, Should be interesting to see if anything comes of this. It's all about making sure we pay the right price for our 30k and on!!! And of course every other Seat owner in our area. I'v got my Cupra going into Newbury for some minor warrenty work on Monday. These blokes Should do a pretty good job at £66 per hour!!! We'll see.

I think you're being ripped off there. I rang the Seat Dealer I bought my car from new (Seat Autoworld - Sheffield) today for my 20k service and they quoted me £185.05 for the service and recommended I have the brake fluid changed as well for an extra £28.95. I also asked for a quote for new tyres as my front two are looking very bald and need replacing after 20,000 - they quoted me £151.00 which I thought was a bit steep so I got on the internet and found Johnsons Tyre Services in Wrexham who'll be delivering me free of charge by 3pm tomorrow 2 Pirelli P6000 91W 225/45/R17'S FOR ONLY £79.99 each (TOTAL COST £158.00) what a BARGAIN. It got even better as I rang Bestfit Tyre Service in Sheffield and they will fit them for me for ONLY £8.50 FOR EACH TYRE, so the total cost of 2 Pirelli P6000's including fitting is ONLY £175.00

Simon.
Cheshunt SEAT charged me £87 for a 10k service on my LCR @end of August. I will possibly be looking at using a Skoda garage for my 20k service, a friend had his Leon 20k done recently at one for £90, said the service was exceptional too.

Hi, just thought I'd add my quote for a service for LCR, which is a total of 159.24. That is for a 20K service comprising of
Parts 22.48
Labour 113.05
VAT 23.71
Sounds good to me, going by what i've seen quoted here, the garage is Listers (Coventry) also they had the largest selection of used LCR's, out of all the local dealers.
Cupra R revo'd, full recaro upgrade, forge DV
My 10k service (oil, etc.. only) cost me about £56
My 20k inspection service cost me about £150
And 30k about £100 as it was not done by a dealer, done by a mobile mechanic as my car is now out of warranty!
First two services were done at the then Milton Keynes Seat, but service has gone down hill since they became 'Stoneacres'

Greetings,
20K service yesterday at FRF in Swansea - Cost £145.25. Gets a bit limited in South Wales, Cardiff or Swansea. Bridgend seem to have vanished. Have had dealings with all three, nice car, shame about the dealers, even Ford were better.
