With my quest to find a good set of alloys, comes my quest for tyres.
For no more than about £80, what is the best 205/40/17 tyre to go for?
Im basically looking for a good all rounder, something that is good in the dry, but also good in the wet.
Any suggestions?
If they are available in the size you want, i would say F1's are the best , or toyo proxies maybe? although you have to be carefull to get the right ones apparently !!
Avon ZZ1 on my beeza 205/40 /17 seem good to me !!:D

Mosser, what are the F1's?
Who makes them?
Goodyear Eagle F1's i think ?
Best value tyre (falken ZE 502 or falken FK451.) Revs mag in dec 2001 rated 451 top tyre also gives good clearance as ,From tread to tyre wall drops away very sharp, So also means no or less chance of rubbing on wheel arches. price for 451 is £59 or £55 502 both tyre's have a good tread pattern like goodyear f1. PS these tyre's were tested in 17" 205/40 :D
Yup, as mark said, Goodyear Eagle F1's, damn sticky tyres !!, after my track session my finger was sticking to the rubber if i pushed it into it!!, and i didnt have too much wear either afterwards
mosser did you leave tyre pressures as normal or add/subtract pressure ??
I was well up on tyre pressures over normal !, 39 front and 38 rear!, some people think its mad to run such high pressures but its how my car handles its best with my tyre combination of 225/50R16 on the front and 205/55R16 on the rear
Mosser thats the right thing to do when i raced (many moons ago.) if it was wet/damp&cold if you put 5>8PSI in more it would heat the tyre up faster and give better grip ,This was fine provided the race was not to long (12>16 miles or they would over heat and go off!!.)
I was doing about 30 miles per session and only did 2 sessions, cos i spent quite a lot of time over at the 0-60 area chatting to people!, dont think i went back for luch to be honest!, just had a bacon butty and a cheeseburger in the morning and stayed out for the rest of the day then!,
I think a far better way of raising money with the playstation would to have been a simple raffle in the briefing sessions, just buy as many tickets as you wanted, and hope yours was picked, i meant to have a go but never found myself back over there when noone was at the ps2 competition table, and to be honest, i think the only people that stood a chance of winning it were the people that already own them!, it is not my intention to criticise the way the ps2 was used to raise money, but i would have happily spent a tenner on raffle tickets knowing that i at least had a chance of winning it!!, rather than knowing i am crap at computer driving games and didnt stand a chance,
then i woulnt have had to use up some of my valuable driving and chatting with people time!
