Perhaps I'm being ignorant, but I didn't realise that you can now get Goodyear Eagle F1's in 195/45 R16 size (for all of us who haven't got some decent alloys yet!). I took a trip to Micheldever Tyres on Saturday and picked some up for £55.00 each (not incl. valves and balancing, so about £60-65 really). Speaking of which Micheldever have got to be the best tyre place around - low prices, friendly and (believe-it-or-not) knowledgable. You actually get people who know what they're talking about rather than the grunting YTS kid who stares at you like a drooling buffoon when you ask him to swap the backs for the fronts! Anyway, if anybody's interested then you'll find them next to Micheldever Station, just off the A303 between Andover and Basingstoke. Oh, and get there EARLY, they get pretty busy.

How good are these tyres?
Had them on my last car and were excelent. Just ordered a set and should have them on on thursday on the front wheels of the cupra so give you a report once there scrubbed in.
Mark
They are the best tyres i have ever used, my last set were some bridgestone potenza s-03 PP's and the F1's are miles better!
Never tried the F1s but on my beeza I really liked the bridgestone S-02PP (not the S-03 which I think aren't half as good as the S-02s).
My toledo is running Michelin Pilot Sports which I find to be excellent (just as good or better than the S-02 but quieter).
From experience the only tires which I really didn't like where all Pirelli's:
P7
P700
P5000
P6000

The Pirelli P-Zero Assimetrico's that were on the car from the dealer were fine in the dry, but shite in the wet. The Goodyears seem to be good in both (though I will probably need a couple of weeks to really see the difference). The Goodyear's also look a lot cooler! The only downside I can see with them is that they don't last as long as the Pirelli's, or so I'm told.

Goodyear Eagle F1's are the best road tyre I have ever come across, and have used them for many years now on me old Jetta.
I first came across them on a track day on a Vectra V6 challenge car (race car) where he and I were playing on a very wet track day at Castle Combe. Power and stright line speeds were similar between us, but he caught me VERY quickly, and passed me into Quarry, pulling 50 yds on me on this singlew corner alone. I had no grip, no traction, where he seemed stuck like glue. Back then I did'nt have my quaife, but my tyres then (Fulda) had no wet grip.
I found the car and owner after that track session to see what magical rubber he had on, and Hey Presto - Goodyear Eagle F1 road tyres.
My decision was made, and that was made based purely on wet grip performance. Since running many many sets of these things I can confirm their dry performance matches their wet performance. Last year I played with using some proper competition, moulded slicks from Dunlop, only to find I could'nt get down to the times I instantly got from swapping to the Eagle F1's. Same track same day, just wheels/tyres being swapped.
Awesome!
I will not change from them now - I have tried other tyres including the well respected Toyo Proxes, but I sold these on as soon as I could, as they were low grip in comparison to the F1's.
The only tyre which I now run which has more dry grip (on the Jetta), are Yokohama A038R's, in Super Soft compound. They won't last long though, but they're fun while they do.
regards
Bill

I went from the Pirelli's to the F1's all round and they made a vast grip improvment in the dry and especially wet.
I hardly ever see the ESP light flash at me anymore.
Had a puncture not long back, fitted the spare which was the Pirelli and the grip on the wheel (front) with the spare was wanky!! Got it repaired quickish and put it back on.
Sincoe then my brother has now swapped all his for F1's and he's noticed the difference too.

Am I right in saying that the Eagle F1's are the deep V grooved directional ones?
Gerry.

My first post here ever (sorry if it comes out wrong!!!)
When i first put alloys on my Ibiza they came with the Toyo T1-S tyres and they were pretty cool, but my boss suggested the F1's and since then thats what i've used. Fantastic tyres, I can't anything bad about them! (195/50/15)
Looking at the prices you've all posted you maybe supprised to hear thati payed 37Gbp each (Fitted IncVAT etc)
i put a new pair on last week, (my fronts have been lasting about 9000 miles, BE WARNED they are Z rated and extremely soft compound) But now i've put my deposit on a 20VT Ibiza and i'm gonna keep my old wheels (and new tyres) for any special occasions!
I got a price for the EAGLE F1's 195/45/16 while i was waiting, and it came out to.....
**************** £49 each ****************
Not bad eh? (and that is all in price, ballenced, valves, fitting, old tyre disposal, VAT)
Thats fom Saxon Gate Motors (Biggleswade Beds) 01767 314011
2 mins up the road (EAGLE F1's 195/50/15) thay are 55 Each!
Thanx for reading my first message!
Bloody hell, I phoned 4 garages down here and the best I could get them for was £79 per tyre, and the worst was £97 per tyre!
Anyone know of any cheap tyre places around Crawley/Gatwick area?
Cheers

LMFAO @ Savoy Tyres in Hull..!!!
Surely anything from Hull can't be a good thing? Unusual to having something here that is better than from elsewhere, but fair enough, I guess it is a fairly cheap place to live, so could be just lucky.
I checked my tyres at the weekend and the tread on the fronts is about half the depth of the tread on the backs.. which is really scary as I didn't know they had worn at all.
I drive with traction control on most of the time as it is always wet (typical english weather), and so the wheels never spin to scrub rubber, but I guess just the power and torque going through the 195 rubber and the braking is enough to scrub the surfaces off without the indicative trye squeeling I associated with wearing out tyres.
Done 7500 miles now, so will be booking it in for a service in a couple more thousand, and will look at maybe getting some new rubber around then too. Will go to Savoy and have a look. Know the top spods from there too, so could maybe get an even better price... we shall see.. :D
I like the look of the F1's too.. love that unidirectional V.
225/50R16 F1's from amethyst are £85 each inc vat and balancing and fitting etc
I need a service in about 1700 miles (Just over a month) so I'll see what price Amethyst can do for my size.
Can my front left wait that long? The track day gave it a bit of a hammering! :D
Cheers
Ben
If not whack your spare on for a week or two!, i got a puncture on the way up to the track day and still havent bothered to get it fixed!!, still got the spare wheel on!, now that is layzeeee!:D

.. similar thing here, I ended up leaving my spare on for nearly 2 weeks. It was wanky weather so I ended up going back to the garage to get them to put it on !! Never mind.

i got yokohama A539's the other day b4 reading this. They were 75quid each all in. They were offering eagle F1's for the same price. My size is:- 205 40 R17
Next time i think I'll try the F1's as things seem a little squirmy driving hard on the yokeys - maybe too soft a compound? Has anyone else had this??
The supplier was topgear in Bridport. They have some other branches but the guy at Bridport is dead helpful and seems to know his stuff.
