What is the performance of these cars?

Driving home on a dual carrageway from work, was followed by one of these, I could tell that he wanted to show me "what a real car" can do. As we approached a round-a-bout, I went swiftly round and floored it on the exit, he quickly responded to the challenge.

To my surprise and (possibly) his shock, he was able to keep with me but was not really getting much closer (about 1.5 - 2 car lengths behind constantly)! After a while, the traffic was getting heavier, so I lifted off. He was right up my ar$e. After while, he just undertook me (in frustration or to prove a point) but the traffic didn't give us a chance to have another blast.

Was he just messing around? There really should be no comparisons right?

It's not a huge amount quicker than a TT225

and heavier I would assume with the V6 power plant?

I read that there was little difference between the V6 and 225 and it was due to the weight of the engine. At least they sound much better than a 225 though!

Oh right, I thought it was way quicker that the 225. He was probably frustrated he coulden't dispose of the cheapy SEAT then :D

would a modded lcr have no trouble then as yours is a modded cupra,

I would imagine so! I think to be fair, had the stretch of road been longer, he probably would have got me. An Audi TT must be lighter than a LC and he must have got more than 230 Bhp as well.

It was fun though...

The TT 3.2 V6 puts out 250bhp - better off chipping a 225, which is a lot cheaper.

The 3.2 V6 is no faster than the TT225, I think the DSG version is a bit faster - a bit being so unnoticable to a non-professional driver that it really doesn't count - so fair play really.

The V6 car is heavier than the 1.8T 225 version, but the power to weight ratios are very similar so the straight line acceleration is very similar. Cornering though the 1.8T 225 will benefit from being lighter.

he net result is that the V6 and 1.8T versions are equal in a straight line, but the 1.8T version should win on a track.

Cheers
Ben

Sooo...apart from more creature comforts, the 225 power plant car is the better performer and maybe more economical??

Well said, chip a 225 much quicker than a V6, more fun to

OR..... Buy a 150 and chip that :) you still get yer 230bhp and its a good few hundred KG lighter as it doesnt have the haldex :)

Yeah but listening to that V6 would be worth it, plus I think it looks slightly different with a few minor bits and peices. Still way over priced though and very common, TTs that is.
It has to be said TT drivers don't like it when you sail past them, the bloke on the M4 the other day gave me a right dirty look when he eventually over took me as I'd moved into the middle lane and slowed.
Give me 350Z anyday.

I went from a LCR with REVO to a 3.2 TT Roadster with DSG and I have to agree with all you have said:

+ the sound of that big V6 is enough to make the extra cost worth it over the 225
+ you get the aggressive body kit
+ the DSG is a truly amazing gearbox
+ it still does 28ish MPG mainly thanks to DSG - I have heard its about 25ish in the manual
+ Bose stereo, for days when tou are bored with the exhaust note
+ Quattro comes in handy in Wales in the winter
+ Chicks do love it!

- its no faster than a 225TT, especially in Roadster form
- any Boxster leaves it for dead
- is the steering actually connected to the wheels, there is no feel
- It was recently voted gay icon car of the year, i'm so glad its gone
- It costs about double to insure compared to an LCR
- Once you have played with all the DSG modes you are left thinking umm what next? Its not the most involving car in the world to drive.
- An LCR is more exclusive, there are 4 TTs in our (every?) street
- They are all driven by girls, except my missus who refused to drive it cos she was frightened of bumping it (after nagging to get the roadster when I wanted the coupe!)

Just glad mine came from a mate who works for the govt overseas and gets 30% discount so it didn't sting at all when I got bored and it had to go!

So what next is the question? Who said 350Z with that GT kit and performance mods..... ;)

Kam, I recently had one of these beauts on loan for 24hrs and found it to be a lot less appealing that the LCR 225, less responsive, (nice exhaust tunes though), and by and large middle of the road, all compared to my Revo'd LCR.
Most of the obvious benefits came from less cabin squeeks and better sound system...but who worries about that too much.......gave it 6out of 10...

I must say after going on the Silverstone driving experience where there were also the TT 3.2 available, the sound it very nice - even at lowish revs.

hi all, i have been lucky enough to own ibiza cupra with apr, leon cupra r with revo & last but not least tt 225 with revo. i had all the cars from new and had done a few thousand miles in each before having them chipped. each car was great after being chipped,i loved the ibiza it was like a little pocket rocket, but handling was a little concerning !!! the cupra was a fantastic mile muncher on motorways and very relaxing even when driven quickly also brakes were very good , paint finish in platinum was crap lumps and bumps everywhere, and to much dark plastic inside, however better i thought than ibiza in all areas !!! then the audi tt finish inside inside & out is very much better ! would take it through car wash every week and looked like new every time in came out, seemed like the paint was harder, seemed a lot harder to scratch. on the motorway it was not as comfortable as the leon, performance wise it was, i think quicker than the leon but had to change in to third to get it through 60mph.marks out of 10
ibiza 6.75 :)

leon 7.50

audi 8.75 :D

hope my views dont cause any offence as i dont own audi now so i think i have been honest in my views, now driving on loan diesel megan until slk 350 arrives
on 10 dec.

just had a tt 3.2 aboustley flooring through the twistie over side of road, doing racing lines all sorts! i was keeping within the lines. i was keeping up well on the straight

round the twistie with all wheel drive it was doing alot better,

i was losing nerve i backed off and shadowed him!
but kept with him and we slowed down to 30mph zone i kept back flashed before i turned off to say hello nothing back ,
come on show some love!
prob cos he just spent 30 grand on a car that a 1.9 deisel with 3 people in kept up with :D
nice leather seats though, i want some

was impressed with handling but he was going abit crazy in it!

They are a nice car, but as a few people have said they are very common, and also, not that good on the performance side. The TT is in my opinion a slow car, not really a sports car, but not really a 'normal' car. The 3.2 is a lot heavier, I know from pushing them when they break down at Audi! Would rather have a 180 anyday.

can't believe how heavy they are for a 2 seater, 1500kg's for the normal 3.2 and an extra 30kg's for the DSG version (same weight as the new R32) roadster is an extra 70KG's, ouch

I'm sure the 3.2 is a nice engine but I really don't rate it considering the weight of it and only a 25bhp increase over the 1.8T. Rather have 2.0TFSI engine like the one fitted to the new S3, 270bhp and just over 1400KG's

They're not two seater. Only the Sport or the cabriolet is I believe.

The 3.2 is no quicker than the 225 1.8t and I've shown a few of those up. :)

whilst up AMD today i sat chatting with a guy who had a red 3.2 dsg TT, his was 275 bhp with a remap and exhaust. and he said the 1.8t TTs were close on prformance, but the real difference was the power delivery, the 3.2 had a lot smoothe progessive power delivery where as the 1.8t was like most turbos and quite spikey. round a track hard to tell the difference, but all down to personal preference.

i think after hearing his, i would go for the 3.2 if only for the sound. Plus more upgradeable as you could just bung on the suprcharger or turbo on to the 3.2 and you got a monster. althogh he had the DSG and said 275 was petty much the max due tot he torque and effects on the gearbox.

also age related, as you get older a big NA engine gets really appealing over a small turbo. I love the Monaros big V8 where as a couple of years ago i would have hated it, thats exactly what ,my mate said when he got his. mmmmmmmm V8

I'll have to introduce you to a few of the guys in the Zed owners club with their twin turbo conversions to be a fair comparison with yours. Mine's standard. ;)
