All,

I took delivery of my shiny new Altea Sport TDi on Friday, and already massed up 500 miles, but thats another story!!!, anyway I will say that i highly reccommend the car, it drives so well, and on the Motorway, is a top crusier!..

Anyway, thats not the reason for the post!!..

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas / thoughts / comments on how a 3rd party audio / satnav system could be fitted to the car?, I couldnt bring myself to pay 1600 quid for the upgrade and then wait 18 weeks for the car!!!...

I know this may not be possible to say thoughts on 3rd party handheld satnav solutions also welcome!!!..

And while im at it!, has anyone been quoted for a Dealer Fit 6 disc changer?, I have been told 450 fitted, but again, im sure it could be done cheaper!.

Any thoughts comments most welcome...

Cheers

How about a PDA based TomTom system?

should only set you back about £400 (ish) and you can take it to any other cars.

Not sure about the CD Changer, but I'm sure that it won't be a unique pin out connection - you'll just need to take out the stereo & get an idea of what connections will fit

I really like the becker stuff. Excellent stuff in a normal din size radio.

Is it just me, or has no one answered the question about getting a DIN fitting into the Altea?

I am bloody desperate to get an aftermarket system into my Altea when it arrives tomorrow and no one has yet seemed to answer the question of where to buy the DIN fascias, despite it being asked in at least three different threads.

I don't want to replace the speakers, which seems to be a well answered question, I want to replace the bloody stereo itself!

Thanks in advance

I've use a TomTom and it's pretty good. The most useful item is the POI (points of Interest) that can be added. Which when used a database of speed cameras, fixed, temp and section can be very convenient! Even better it your PDA is wireless and you have a wireless network at home, just connect it, download the updates and there you are! I'd go for the PDA, mainly because it can be removed and used in any vehicle. Disadvantages is that it can't interupt your ICE, so if you play your music loud or have a boom box, it might make it a little difficult to hear the direction/warnings!

I would say you do want to replace the speakers as priority number one, but perhaps what you meant was you wanted to replace the whole lot. My problem is linked to non standard headend and getting a Sony MD changer fitted which I've made no progress on as yet.... but speakers yes and I'm happy with the headend except what I said.
