View Full Version : Revo Ibiza Cupra TDI
Mum's car came back from Revo today after being used as the development vehicle.
Revo commented on how well the car handled compared to the other models, how well it pulled and how well it kept it's cool, thanks to it's FMIC.
The standard power was 174.9 bhp and 260.9 lb/ft. I would imagine this proves that it's just a PD150 with a different IC.
The new power is 198.1 bhp and 299.8 lb/ft. Again, the power is about the same as a PD150, and the torque is pretty much the same as my AmD PD130.
As standard, the car felt slightly quicker and much more responsive than my 130, perhaps that's due to the FMIC and the decent air feed. Now it's done, I imagine it feels even better. I haven't driven it yet, but I will be later on in the week...of course you'll be the first to know!
My huge thanks go to everyone at Revo, especially Kev for putting up with me and my ever changing frequency of emails.
If anyone wants to see the dyno plots, I'll see if I can get Kev to email Mark the plot, and then see if Mark has the time to stop moving house and host them for you. That's also known as "be patient, stop moaning and wait until everyone has time!" :p
Cant wait for the review tom :) thats in this heat too good results imho, nice standard figs too, i know they are the same as 150 ish,but the lighter weight of the beezer it should fly

Nice one Tom, lookign forward to getting FMIC'd myself now :)
Revo seem to be the tuner atm for the PD engines dont they.
Yeah - just tell Kev where to send em & I'll get them up.
The FMIC looks nice & tidy - although covers a lot of the rad - so care would need to be taken in teh summer traffic jams

I would imagine its going to be ok given it OE fitment.
Is the diesel one FMIC and same style as the petrol FMIC one?
Cast end tanks too as I remember :)
yeah..it's a nice piece. had one in my hands today. Should not be a problem with the OE rad..
very nice Tom, quite happy with those standard figures, be interested to see the graphs before and after though.
guessing they have to brand them as peak power for the average hot temperature climate where they would probably just manage to produce the 160bhp if it was 35 or 40 deg air temperature.
Was it running ultimate diesle or just standard fuel? Be interesting to see if that made much diffrence, how tight was the engine also, less than 1K miles?
good work :worship:
Engine had about 180 miles on it I think, and was running Tesco diesel. If you believe all the stupid hype that ultimate diesel makes it quicker, you could have 5000bhp out of your Revo TDI! ;)

Bit like mine then*
* powered by shell diesel extra

Good one Tom.
174 hp stock are a lot!! Congrats for the car mate!
Did you use air con to cool the air for the engine or did it push out 174hp in the heat?!
Would like to see a 0-100kmh (~0-60mph) for your cupra mate!
Can't really imagine a mum in a 200hp car tho!! (much respect to ya mum tho!!).
Anyway I still can't understand why many of you with 130s run ~190hp with revo and a 150 can reach "only" ~200hp with revo. Would expect more.
Have fun with that beast Tom!! [B)]
Revo did all the RR work so I don't know if it had air con on or not.
I wish it was my car!

it was 28+ degrees that day though.
and stealth aren't an optimistic rolling road.
Andy, it wasn't done at Stealth!

Wasn't talking about car a/c, I've seen many RR sessions done with an air conditioner which pushed cold (or at least colder than the outside very hot temps) air on the intercooler and intake pipes of the car. That was to see the power figures of the car in normal temp/humidity conditions.
Anyway 14hp stock more than declared is a lot.
Sorry I thought you meant the car's A/C.
I imagine so, I've never been to an RR where they haven't used one. I thought it was part of the Sun RR kit.

O.k.
Did you had the chance to drive your mom's car?
I can imagine that the best improvements revo has done are about smoothness and torque delivery steadiness.
Yeah I've driven it now.
Shit me does it throw you into the back of your seat, even at 90 in 6th! A blip of the throttle and you know the power's there!
VERY DANGEROUS! IF YOU HAVE A CUPRA TDI, DON'T GET REVO IF YOU VALUE YOUR LICENCE! ;)
Bring It To The Meet.. Bring It To The Meet.. Bring It To The Meet.. Bring It To The Meet.. ;)
You're not going to the meet! :P

Nice! looking forward to getting my one done soon, I just want to get some more miles on the clock.
anyone had a revo'd car MOT'd reading some background and the higher tune cars that put out more soot tend to clog up the cat which could then need replaced etc. come MOT emissions time?

This goes a little bit OT,,,
but, if you use a dead/broken MAF (or you place a potentiometer on the MAF line) which supplies less current for same amount of air, shouldn't the ecu supply less fuel and thus causing lower emissions?
Just remove the CAT less soot and more power. Diesels only get tested for soot and not emissions.
And in the UK a CAT is a legal requirement.

I never did a MOT (live in italy) but if you remove the cat and car passes the soot trial who will notice you don't have the cat?
Will they jack the car up?
I believe they do. They check for corrosion so while they're there they'll look for a CAT too.
Any car registered after a certain date in 1993 has to have one.

It could be a good idea for my first MOT (its italian equivalent) which should happen within weeks.
But are you sure thay et tested only for soot? I don't think so. Maybe they are just in the netherlands, in the tdi section there's sssstew who's failed emissions.
Yes the only test is the soot test just like sssstew. The trick is then to buy a old cat and clean it out and weld a straight through pipe into it. It looks like a cat but doesn't function. ha Ha Ha
And what does all that hassle give you?
talking about soot hows the car now its been REVO'd does it chuck any more black stuff out the back? or were you too pinned into the seat to see it LOL.
Geoff, I was too busy looking at the road in front of me unfortunately!
It does seem to be a lot dirtier, so I can only assume it is sooting a lot more.
@toXXin; It should increase the turbo whistle + a quicker response of the turbo ie quicker spool up.

I thought these were sort of italian tricks,,, very clever tho, will have to think about doin it!

Hehehee,,,
why ya always here in the tuning section and no more in the tdi section paulo? tryin to lead people post in the right place?!
I'd like to have some opinions by you about some of my posts there!!
done a 0-60 on it yet ???
No, because neither I or my mum are interested in any of that stuff.
 toXXin you didnt have to get arsey about it ??? just thought you`d be interested in seeing what a 200bhp TDI hothatch could do.. obviously the whole diesel image is rubbing of on you grandad :thumbd:
could we calm down a bit...
Does my post sound arsey? Sounds as though someone else isn't happy because I'm not prepared to stop in the middle of the road with my stopwatch, and then have my mum wheelspin down the road to get you your answer. I don't believe statistics and performing experiments on public roads give me bigger balls, so I'm not prepared to do it.
Grandad? I'm one of the younger ones on the forum. I just see myself as being more sensible compared to others.
my bad. thought you were being arsey.
sorry.
still if you could give it a go that would be cool. dont use a stopwatch use something like and ap22 sportmeter.
hows about a speedo vid from 30-100 to get the idea of speed. :D
because 100mph would be illegal & without sounding like a pleb - there really is nowhere particularly police free around northampton.
you all live in southhampton ?? hehe never mind i think 30-70 will do then
btw dont you have B roads to go on around your way like "private tracks" :D
i can avoid all pedestrians / police on these and travel over the limit occasionally :drive1:
well im not a grandad but i could be at my age. LOL.
after many years on the road ive found the only REAL useful figures to look at when buying a car are
30-70 through the gears (fast overtaking of a wagon/tractor)
30-50 in 3rd (common overtaking move)
50-70 in top (common motorway or fast road overtaking move)
0-60 0-100 is hard for joe public, mr average to do and get consistant realistic figures and is just meaningless unless you do traffic light boy racer idiot racing. even then its al down to the driver/start and traction on the day. there pointless figures for real life. :hide:
I will get my zima frame and leave now :hide:
yeah back to the retirement home for you.
:p
0-60 is allways interesting, just like an exact top speed, or a 1/4 mile time, even though they're completely irrelevant!!!! :)
here's a standard car run http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=41701
I had a look at that vid earlier - looks pretty darn nippy! When I drove a Cupra (admittedly brand new) it felt quite sluggish, but maybe that's because I was expecting a lot from it. Jumping back into my car was incredible - it felt so much quicker, which I really didn't expect at all. Not knocking the Cupra though - it's a blinding car, and I'm sure with Revo would be even better. Plus the handling is a million miles ahead of my LCR :)
tempreature makes a huge difference too, mine was flashing it's traction light for the first time when driving at night at about 10 degrees C outside, have to remember to use a bit less throttle when it gets cooler, must add at least 10bhp as you can really feel the improvement.
Yeah the same goes for my car - the difference between 10 degrees and 15 degrees is absolutely mahoooooosive!

Which car is that ?? ibiza tdi, apparently handles really well but i didnt think it wolud be better than a LCR.
The Ibiza Cupra I was referring to. To be honest I think the Leon handles remarkably badly though, so it doesn't take much beating! The Leon rolls way too much, doesn't develop a huge amount of lateral grip and is disturbingly back end twitchy in pretty much all conditions! I'd like to try one with the S3 struts, but AFAIK these are only for the front end, so surely that would make the back end even worse.
