View Full Version : Petrol Gauge
Ive noticed on the Ibiza's petrol gauge that the low petrol light and buzzer come on very early, at around half way between quarter and the red line, and if you switch to the trip computer it says there is about 25miles remaining which quickly drops to 0 miles very quick even though there seems to be loads of petrol left. Ive let the petrol go as low as i dare but how far you can go into the red is unsure.
Has anyone else had the same problems???
Also what is the most anyone has seen to a tank full of petrol? I very rarely get over 300 miles to a tank (maybe thats my driving)?
I have never got 300 miles to a full tank yet hahaha it is just to hard to drive miss daisy the roads I go down to work and im getting the 210 RSD conversion this wed so it will only get worst. I have this week been trying as hard as poss to see how many miles you can get, so far 60 miles done and trip saying 310 left but it hurts driving this slow got over took by a fiat panda today AAAARRRRRHHHH!

I've had the same problem with the fuel gauge on my 16v Cordy.
It's a bugger. 300 miles? Sounds about right.
I once managed to get 42 mpg during the petrol blockade - never to be repeated.
On the subject of Panda's I was nearly killed by one when the driver tried to overtake a line of traffic and hit me head-on coming the other way. SPLAT - I was in a Triumph Spitfire at the time!!!! Ouch

I have exactly the same with mine. I've had mine sitting with 0 miles left for a good ten miles or so once with no problems. Not recommended.
As for 300 miles, I wouldn't complain, I've never seen 280! Lots of stop start driving in the mornings, not a lot of motorway. Oh and a heavy right foot. It went down to 230 after the recent heat as I had the AC on almost permanently.
Cheers

Duncan,
Don't worry about the MPG after the conversion.....the grin factor you have eveyrtime you hit that big pedal will make you forget about it anyway!!!
I hope you've ordered some brake upgrades aswell pal????
For the others.....I get 230miles on avg. Sometimes i'll stretch it to 300 (motorway blasts) but most of the time i avg. about 25mpg.
After VBH's view on Top Gear this week...been driving like goody goody by short shifting and changing up before i hit 3000rpm.
It works though....my avg. mpg has been going up!!!! Still resisting the urge to nail the beast!!!

I haven't got my Ibiza yet, but 300 miles on a tank sounds about the same as my 205 1.9 GTi which takes about £27 woth or petrol (OK, 280 miles max in the 205)... how much petrol fits in the Ibizas tank?
Also, I'm about to get an SJB Ibiza 200 (The Ibiza modded to 200bhp) and I was wondering if the Ibiza will run on Super Unleaded, and if so are there any noticable performance gains? Are there any dangers to using Super Unleaded (Engine reliability?)?

Ben

The most I've ever managed is almost 400 miles on a tank...that was almost exclusively on A roads/motorway with one eye fixed firmly on the mpg counter and trying hard to keep it in the 40s so it IS possible...back to what you said about the instrumentation though, I reckon they're all a bit innacurate (see my posted topic, which should appear fairly soon hopefully)

Chungster,
I am getting the tarox G88 discs with tarox six pots I will let you now what there like, I had AP's before on a mod 205.

Ben
The ibiza Turbo can run 98 Octane Fuel...super is only 97!! I run it all the time..cos the engine loves it!!
Running normal unleaded doesn't fo it justice!!

Duncan,
DAMN YOU!!! I can't believe Tony and Danny boy persuaded you to go for the 6 potter (unless you wanted it of course!!).
Are they still gonna use the 280mm discs...cos i didn't think they made a 300+mm disc in 4 stud for our car???
Damn.....i'm gonna have a go at them this weekend!!!
It'll look the aboslute dogs though...you changing alloys aswell then???
Nice one Duncan. What colour is your car by the way??

Chungster,
When I turned up last week for a chat and a look around, I got onto the brake situation I was going for the AP's but then Danny showed me the six pots and told me he was working on them with some tarox grooved disks,(im not sure what size they are can't remember sure he said they were from audi TT though)will let you know Thu after they have been done. I asked if I could have them with the 210 conversion very big very nice just had to have them, he said YES.
Having not long brought the car and spending £900 on the stereo and now getting the 210 conv and brakes I have just enough to treat her to a tank of super unleaded for a blat around. So no wheels yet but its on the list with the 6 speed box, S3 seats and poss larger intercooler think im going to have to brown nose at work for a pay rise. She is black and come Wed badged up as a R.
It was a choice of performance or looks no contest realy the car looks very good anyway. The wheels will prob get replaced when the tyres have died. The world need to see those BRAKES!! Any more plans for yours? You
