View Full Version : Ibiza 'Part Leather' seats?

I have had my Ibiza Cupra back to the dealers to check out the drivers seat. After only 4 months the leather part down the side where I get in has started to peel and show signs of wear. The dealer has agreed to replace it under warranty. But my friend, who used to be an upholsterer, says that the material is not leather, but a man made material called leatheret. Was I just being naive in thinking real leather would be used, as stated in the specification, and has anyone else noticed this problem.

No the seat bolsters and backs are not leather. The broucher for the Leon states that only the bottom and back panel of the seats are 'real' leather, the rest is fake on the 'full' leather option, bit of a con really. Therefore the Ibiza hasn't got any leather at all! My Ibiza drivers seat is starting to ripple with use, car's less than 6mts old.

If this is the case we should take legal action, as it is trade discription! Now where is my Ibiza brochure.

Ive just looked at the brochure, and it states "part leather" no mention of leatheret. How pissed off am I now, are you sure it fake, if so Im going to take action.

Oh, and yes, mine has got strange creases in both front seats on the side you get in! I though this was down to the leather getting a bit soft, this is now not the case!

My friend who checked the worn seat reckons that ONE piece (the smallest)in the Headrest is real leather, the rest is all fake. This probably covers them in stating 'Part Leather' in the brochure. What a scam!

That sounds about right, bloody con merchants. Mind you if you've paid extra (£1600) for leather with the Leon you would be well pissed!

The Leather in the Leon is real, it smells like a cow too.

Even got a sample if I needed to get it replaced.

Yep no worrys there the Leon is indeed true cow, mine came brand new! one of the first Leon Cupra's off the ship in Sept last year.

The moment i opened the door on the first day i saw it at the dealership the whiff of cow was unmistakeable. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

Im not totally convinced its the best leather going though, mine have rippled a bit from wear, i think they will look shoddy after a couple of years, it is quite soft leather.

You Leon guys do get more leather but it's only the strip you sit on and the bit your back rests on, and perhaps the headrests as it turns out! The bolsters etc are fake like the Ibiza. This is clearly stated in the Leon broucher in small print. As for the quality, well have you seen the state of the cows in Spain!! Seems like ALL Cupra owns have been swindled one way or the other.

Well then if thats the case we have SEAT over a barrel, cause my Leon was specified as FULL LEATHER not Part as is the case with the Ibiza's.

So if this is indeed true, the worst part is the bolsters, the rest of the seats are superb its only the bolsters that have wrinkled and started to crease.

So how do they waggle out of that if it claims they are Full Leather but they are not. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

Something else for my check list me thinks.

And i still have the Leon Brochure from April 2000, which is what i went off when i bought my car before all the changes.

It says FULL LEATHER no small print.

And i have an original, in fact one of the first and very few Leon Cupras, before all the price changes and the spec rip offs.

Re. leather on Ibiza

The seats have leather as follows -

1. Front of headrest
2. Side bolsers (ie, the front bits of the side of the seats)
3. Top of the BACK of the front seats
4. The bolsers of the rear seats
5. Centres sections on mine (Dutch import with optional extra leather)

NOW, the backs of the seats, the sides, the backs of the headrests ARE imitation leather...you can see the difference if you look closely. look at the headrests and you can clearly see the difference in what the two look like, then compare that to the rest of your seats.

HOWEVER....!!!!

It is SHIT quality leather, which is why they can afford to fit it on a 13k car, and is also why everyone'#s looks shite after about a month! Mine isn't TOO bad, but that's becasue i use jhigh quality saddle leather food on it VERY regularly. If you don't do that it cracks in months, as it's very poor aulity...check out a BMW in the street to see what good quality leather looks like...you'll see it looks VERY different from what you have in your SEAT...

As for warranty claims, i'd be interestd in following up on that too...

Go for it Cuprakid, I've had my Ibiza Cupra for about 4 weeks now and the 'leather' at the side of the seat (the part where the side faces the door) has come away from the seat big time, it's all rippling and looks generally crap. I'd be more than interested about what you find out.

Update:

The chap at the SEAT dealer said;"Yes its real leather, what would we gain from lying!" good answer, but im still not sure, dont smell of leather!!! I shall find out more, and post my results.

On the paint side, Getting SEAT paint specialists to come and examine the car.

Re. leather on Ibiza

Guys - I'll post this again, for those that missed it...just look at your seats CLOSELY< you can easily tell the bits which are real leather and the bits which aren't. Incidentally, VERY VERY few cars have FULL leather, most will have imitation on the seat backs...its not just SEAT that do that (and still call it full leather) but most manufacturers that do, unless you buy a Bentley...

The seats have leather as follows -

1. Front of headrest
2. Side bolsers (ie, the front bits of the side of the seats)
3. Top of the BACK of the front seats
4. The bolsers of the rear seats
5. Centre sections on mine (Dutch import with optional extra leather)

NOW, the backs of the seats, the sides, the backs of the headrests ARE imitation leather...you can see the difference if you look closely. look at the headrests and you can clearly see the difference in what the two look like, then compare that to the rest of your seats.

HOWEVER....!!!!

It is SHIT quality leather, which is why they can afford to fit it on a 13k car, and is also why everyone's looks shite after about a month! Mine isn't TOO bad, but that's becasue i use high quality saddle leather food on it VERY regularly. If you don't do that it cracks in months, as it's very poor quality...check out a BMW in the street to see what good quality leather looks like...you'll see it looks VERY different from what you have in your SEAT...
