Hi,
Looking at getting VAG-Com. Just wanted to know what is the minimum spec Laptop that I need to run it?? :)
Cheers
Chris
It's in the vag-com.co.uk link in the sticky at the top! http://www.vag-com.co.uk/Manual2081/faq_1.html#PC-Requirements

having vagcom myself id recommend a laptop with at least a p3 500 and 256mb ram because when your reading multiple block values it tends to slow down a fair bit, i was using one of my works armada 7400's very early p3 lappys with 128mb which, dont get me wrong, does run it fine on single reading.
id also advise getting one with an onboard serial port as the usb convertors have a tendency of being incompatible with vagcom.

Thanks for the advise guys.
Sorry if all these questions have been asked and answered before...
I may be able to get hold of an old laptop. The spec is P1 (speed 266?) 64MB Ram, 6 gig hard disk with the right serial port.
It will prob come with Windows 98.
Would this be ok to run VAG-Com???
Also reading the info from the link above, it says that VAG-Com is only 1mg big and that you have to download it from the web and then register it.....is this right??
Once it's on the cpu and VAG-Com is installed, do you just need to connect it to your car and away you go then.....or is it not as simple as that??
Thanks
Chris

98 should run ok, as i said it will just be a bit jerky when using the mouse. make sure you get the right cable/interface as the 2002 on is different 2x2 iirc. download the software get the registration key from rosstec and its all self explanatory from there. make sure you have the manual and fault codes though as they dont make an awful lot of sence to the unknowing.
I'm thinking of selling my laptop, which was fine for running with VAG-COM.
It's a 475mhz AMD K6-2 Toshiba with 160mb RAM and a carry case. The battery's a bit shady, but I can get new official ones from work at cost.
If you're interested, PM me and I'll let you know a price.

I'm running vag-com on a P120 with 16mb RAM and Win95... will measure 3 blocks no problems... strange how some of you with more powerful machines are struggling?
Only wish I could have tried it on my AMD K6-2 366 with 160mb RAM and Win98, but it died before vag-com arrived :(

A lot depends on what other crap you have running on your machine. If you get a low-spec machine, the first thing to do is put a nice clean Windows on it. It's amazing how "polluted" Windows can become with unneeded crap after it's been used for other stuff for a while.

Also make sure that all applications that run resident on the system tray (bottom right next to the clock) are closed down too, these are taking up valuable memory when sat there, most often doing nothing. Just right click and exit them all before running vag-com. On a high spec Laptop there shouldn't be a problem.
