View Full Version : 17" wheels delaying delivery
I have had my Altea on order for just coming up to 12 weeks and have been told that it has not been shipped yet as the factory are waiting for a delivery of the 17" wheels that I have added to the spec. Has anyone else ordered one with these wheels and been given this story?

hello mate,
When we ordered our 2.0TDi sport we asked for 17's but the dealer said that this would delay the delivery by sometime. So we just stuck with the standard 16's which i like anyway.
Hopefully you will not have to wait too long....
All depends if they are a dealer or factory option

they are a factory option - thats what the dealer said to me
Yes, these particular ones are the factory fit option. Although I have got the list of accessories out of Seat and there are some others on there. The only plus out of it was that Seat added extra options after I placed my order, one of which was the CD multichanger and after a lot of work from my dealer they managed to get it added to the order even though it was on the line at the time. Its just frustrating knowing it is built but just sitting there waiting for wheels. They've known for months that I wanted them!
I was told by the dealer yesterday that my car will be another 6-7 weeks before it is delivered. Thats on top of the 14 I have already waited. Is anyone else having delivery problems?
I have got a Altea 2.0 tdi sport with 17" optional extra alloy wheels,I ordered my car in late June and picked up the car on sept 01.I dont why you are waiting so long the dealer I got my car from didnt encounter any problems.
My advice would be to wait for the wheels as the Altea looks so much better with them fitted.
For info they are 5 spoke fitted with Dunlop sp 9000 225/45/zr17"s

Going slightly off topic... can you post some pictures of your new Altea... and the 17" wheels.. I've only seen one and it had the standard 16" on. If you could that would be great
Cheers in advance...

Thanks for the info andyl. It seems that Seat UK have now admitted to losing my order, hence the delay.
Well I'm still waiting but mine was all of the above, 17", TDI 2.0 + DSG. Could be the DSG holding mine up.
I've been told today that my car was put on the boat that left Spain last week, so it should only be a few weeks now.
Tell - I was told that if I ordered DSG I wouldn't get it until November.

Nimay - that sounds about right - November is my promised date although a build date in early October has been suggested + the shipping would get it here first week in November, I did have a build date in September but that came and went.
I've been told today that my car is now in the country. It should be delivered to the dealer later this week and I can get it at the weekend. At last!
And as an added bonus my insurance company are going to give me £50 back, as my brand new Altea Sport TDi 140 is cheaper to insure than my current 3 year old Bora Sport TDi 130.

hmmm - I wonder where mine is.... however I did see in a Seat dealers window in Berlin an Altea with 17" wheels & I popped into the all things VW shop which exhibits all the ranges of cars that VW owns including Seat and memerised this WWW address to the German accessories shop... so the next but thing to a real Altea whilst waiting for it to be built is a model:

Seeing as you have seen an Altea shod with 17inch alloys ..... can you give me any idea as to the design..... ie are they just larger versions of the 16 inchers fitted to the Sport or summit different??
I have given up hoping to see a picture of the 17 inch alloys!!! Hope they turn out to look good cause I ordered my TDi Sport with them! ...... Roll on November!!
Cheers

I have got the 17" wheels on my Altea but I do not have a digital camera. If you want to know what they look like then visit the seat international website they are on the new Toledo. They are a matt grey finish and do make the car look better.
My advice and opinion since owning the Altea for a month is that it handles well, very quick on the motorway but I wish I had got the reversing sensors as the visibility out of the rear and front is poor(you cant see the front when parking).
Hope this is of some help.

Tehe... mine's still on order and I did order the reversing sensor but mainly because the people where my mother lives insist on parking opposite her drive so getting out when visting is a pain... now the police have moved them away from there. So that was one thing I did right.

To me they looked like the same as the Sport ones except were bigger. The brochure image of the Altea... front cover is how they looked to me. But the dealer was closed so it was through the window so I could not read the wheels but one was 99.9 percent sure they were. They were fitted to a Reference model. Now as our learned friend says above they did indeed look like the image on the seat.com site of the new Toledo.
I probably mentioned that mine was / is going to be DSG which may be why I'm still waiting. Good to hear from the guy above also that it handles well.... still a bit worried what 17" will do to the ride.
Am I right or am I wrong that the front image on the Altea brochure are 17" ?.
The 17s are the same as the wheels shown on the production Toledo (see that section of the forum). There was an article in the SCN news section about Seat profits which showed an Altea with them on. They are quite a narrow spoke which is round near the centre of the wheel and then turns to a square as it goes out to the rim. If all goes well I'll have mine on Saturday after an 18 week wait, I'll post some pics, or at least I'll try.
The picture on the front of the brochure shows the Sports standard 16" wheel.

That settles that one on the brochure....... good to see the pictures.... mind I did see them in that German showroom honest. There was one Altea parked at Tegal airport but other than the three I saw in two showrooms, like the UK not much sign of them on the roads just yet.
I also reckon that I saw and heard a VW van thingey with DSG whizz bye as it sped up. It sounded strange and sort of howled.
Cheers for the info lads!!
Look forward to seeing the pic's Nimay..... remember we all want nice big pictures of those alloys!! [B)]
Sorry guys you are going to have to wait a bit longer for the pictures.
I called into the dealers today to give him the insurance cert and got the news that my car had arrived as planned, however Seat have seen fit not to fit any of the factory fit options I have asked and paid for! No 17" wheels, no parking sensors, no CD changer. Yet the wheels and the CD changer have been some of the reasons that the car has taken 18 weeks to get here. The dealer is now pulling out all of the stops to get the parts and fit them to the car before delivery. But they are not going to be here and fitted before the weekend.
What help are Seat UK being in all of this - none whatsoever. They can't even return a call I made to their customer care line this afternoon as promised. A familiar phrase about arranging a drink in a brewery comes to mind. If anyone from Seat UK should read this you should feel very, very ashamed, after all supplying cars is supposed to be your business.

I hope the same doesn't happen to me. Apparently the guy responsible for ordering stuff at Seat UK is on a two day training course.
Seems to be a big screw up. You order something specific, they sell you something specific but fail to deliver it. That is why mine is taking so long so I understand since the DSG side of things delayed it. Perhaps I would notice the gear stick if they tried to pass of a manual on me....
I ordered mine in launch week, I'd tell you other stuff but not on a public forumn. The delay sounds similar to you. I'm being told last week in December / first week in January to delivery, so that will be six months !. I hassle them each time the alotted build week comes up to be told it's not being build this week, but week X.
He certainly needs to be on a training course.
My dealer mentioned that DSG build is now late November when I was talking to him today.

My dealer mentioned that DSG build is now late November when I was talking to him today.
Now that is something that they have not told me !. We're waiting for him to come back from his training course where he has a special system that lets him get into the factory system, that gives you the facts of the order which dealers don't have.....
It seems to make sense now....
Thanks.
God I dont like the sound of that!!! Surely they cant balls up my one can they??
The only option I have gone for is the alloys .... and I suppose the metallic
Knowing my luck it is bound to go pear shaped :(
As mentioned above I am not going to get my car until the 16th now, but in order to calm me down a bit I have been lent a black sport TDi for the week until mine is ready. The seats are lovely and comfy. And it handles well. I have just taken it down a road which has a series of undulations in it that have my Bora on its bump stops at 50. In the Altea they are not a problem. It will be interesting after a week in a car with the standard 16" wheels to see what mine feels like with the 17s.
Least you are getting yours..... yes will be very interested to hear about the ride quality with the 17" after you have experinced the 16" wheels.
When I test drove the 16" sport TDi I thought it found the bumps in the road from time to time. I drive a ZX at the minute and that does not crash around but to get the DSG I had to go for the Sport model so I was worried, then I order the 17".... then it started to worry me. I was impressed on the test drive with the quiteness of the car inside and the power that the engine delivered against my ye-old ZX with the 1.9 XUD 90 BHP turbo. The sport was much more purky as can be expected, extra 50 BHP etc. Handling was interesting... but we'll see when Seat get round to building my car and delivering it in the UK when ever that may ne....
Tomorrow is the day. 19 weeks and 6 days after placing the order my Altea is ready for collection.
Now all I need to do is find a shorter aerial. I have discovered with the one they lent me that I have to remove the aerial to put the car away in the garage or risk removing aerial and/or garage lock mechanism when backing out. Anyone have any recommendations for a good quality aerial? I need to reduce the height by about 2"

To be flippant can't you just cut it off with bolt cutter thingey, pliers and stick one of those alien green things on top as you see in Roswell High... I got it on DVD.
My story is like yours the garage now tell me that the wrong car is being built without the parking sensors or the spare tire. Either I could ditch the order and start again or they would retrofit. I said retrofit. Still I don't think I'll get it till December, order placed in July.
Managed to get a few pictures before the rain set in. I have uploaded them so hopefully they will be below.

What's the ride quality like in relation to the the 16" Altea you just been driving - when the rain stops.... Nice pictures - what colour is that ?. After my garage leaving stuff of the order and the "wrong" care being built for me as well one wonders...
Thanks for the pics.
The colour is Luvia blue.
I am a little suprised how much firmer my car feels with the 17s on it compared to the standard car on 16s I have been driving for the last two weeks. I will give some more thoughts about this when I have done some more miles in it.

I'm about to order a Sport TDI Altea having been very impressed with the ones I have driven - not going for the 17"ers though because they degrade the ride too much from what I've read and been told. Parking sensors are going on it though. I've been told there won't be much wait for the beast either. Fingers crossed! Must say the TDI 105 Stylance I tested wen't very well too - obviously not quite as quick as the 140 Sport but good for its size...
Managed to get a few pictures before the rain set in. I have uploaded them so hopefully they will be below.
Congrats mate
Like the colour...
Right about the ride..... can rattle yer fillings at times.... but thats the price we pay for having a tall car that corners flat!!
I've done a few more dry miles now, well only a hundred and I don't know whether the car is settling down or my memory of the standard car is fading, but this one doesn't seem as hard as when I first drove it. The main difference with the 17s is the low level bumps get through where as the 16s must just absorb those things, you know the sort of thing rumble strips as you approach a 30 zone, or the slightly sunken manhole cover. It doesn't come through in a nasty crashy way, you just know what is going on underneath you.

I may be able to live with that and thanks to Greeny as well. One of these days Seat may actually get it to me and then I may say  .
A few more pics following the first wash. Plus the Honda Civic aerial I have fitted in order to stop having to take the original off whenever I put the car in the garage.

nimay, i like the sill plates. Did you get them from a seat dealer? if you don't mind me asking how much were they?
Yes I did get them from the dealer. Officially they are £75 for the set of 4. Only the front ones have the name on them. I got them free to try and make up for all the problems with delivery.
Someone is selling front and rear mudflaps plus the sill plates on ebay, although the picture only shows the front 2. Item no 7931027797

Thanks for sharing the pics Nimay. I can live with the original aerial as long as Sea France sends one up part of the deck with good headroom, that's the only time my ZX aerial hits anything. I don't garage my car at the minute. 17" look nice. Mine is now built and heading this way. I expect to get it in December and I'll be taking it abroad to the Mossel circa 4 days after I get it..... <all being well>

Have you got a part number for the civic aerial?
How much did it cost from the honda dealer?
This might be a little off the thread, but does anyone know what the 18" Titanium Alloy Wheel looks like? They are on seat.co.uk site and have the same part number (5P0071492) as the seat.com site which has a picture. (see pic) And the price seems pretty cheap as well, £150...
The same goes for the body kit, which has the same part number but no picture. If they are the same why dont the .co.uk site put the pic on from the .com site?!?

SEAT UK are hopeless at getting things on their website. I was told late August that the accessories would be on the site in a week or so, and they have only been on the site a few weeks now.
Wheel price is good for a main dealer item but about average for elsewhere, remember by the time you have bought 4 wheels plus the tyres you will probably have spent at least £1000. Also on the bodykit the price probably doesn't include spraying or fitting.
OK Nimay and all I took delivery of my little hottie today in the form of a Seat Altea Sport DSG with 17" wheels, parking sensors, sun roof etc. I ordered it in July and got it in December.... urrr. So the drive home was impressive. Picks up the pot holes nicely just like a Fiat my partner will feel at home in it, I'm use to comfy Citroen suspession. Sleeping policemen it does handle well, I noted that, pot holes and road covers not so well.
Anybody looked at the head end connections yet ?. May be there is a thread ?. I want to have an MD changer fitted.
OK I'll come back with all those burning questions....
Congratulations Tell its arrived at last. I'm interested in your thoughts on the DSG as I nearly went for that, it was the lead time that put me off. I met someone the other day who had one and he was very impressed with the DSG box.
Going to post any pictures?

I'll try and take some piccies when I take it Germany in the week. What do you want too see the gear shift ;) .
I did come down the M1 in heavy trafic crawling at 0 to 10 MPH tonight and thought, lucky me I can just rest my left foot and left arm whilst others are changing, up and down etc. It has a Sport [S] setting as well as D on the gear box. I got in that by accident and it was changing up much latter. I prefer D. It's nice and smooth if you just keep a steady foot on the accelerator. You get a read out of what gear it's in which is nice to see as it does the hard work.
Have not not used the manual tiptronic shifting yet when you push the button whilst in drive and shift to the left, the stick then goes up or down changing the gears up or down - you get manual control of the car. That is the "paddle" bit but on the stick as I understand it. The manual says just use it for going down hill. I think you have the same manual. I got a hill to go down into in Germany this Thursday so I'll give it at go. The hill goes on for a couple of miles.
So far, so good. Did stall it by shifting it from D to R without pressing the break whilst reversing... think that's what I did. Yeah, seems I had a shutting the door problem with the light on but that's settled down. yep get the sound effect at 80 MPH on the top door by ones ear like a plastic bag being russled. May be it's a vortex from the wing mirrors ?.
I don't know whether anybody has tried to fit their Altea out with carpets yet. Once I get a new car I'm off to Halfords for new carpets to put down. Got Halford er Concor or something model 1, 4 pack set. It said it would do for a Toledo so I thought that's big enough. Altea not listed.
The back ones I just trimmed around the markings to reduce them a bit with scissors as you do, just on the rubber. Front passenger was OK, but drivers you got the foot rest for the automatic [I suspect only Automatic have that] plus what you all have, is the hinged accelerator pedal on the floor. Big trimming of carpet to get all of that to fit taking a chunk off down to the pedal from the front edge down of the carpet.
Anybody else been playing with carpets ? or having a CD changer / MD fitted to the head. The latter is my next big one.
Forgive me but isn't that called SPAM and is a weebit annoying since I thought the thread on 17" alloys had something of interest posted against it... ditto on all the other threads where you placed your free advert.
Oh and the Daily Telegraph recommended site of http://www.drivethedeal.com/ has the same model on offer as your £11456 at the moment for the 1.6 8V Reference model for the same price etc etc. I used the Drive the Deal price to get the offer that I wanted from my dealer, infact I got a few percent more off.
threads gonna all be cleaned up later.
pee's me off plenty as well - so keep the adverts in the adverty bit please [read the roools]

OK here's the piccie of the car on it's hols in Germany last week... my DSG Altea Plat Grey with 17" taking in some rain in Bernkastel-Kues.
It handled well. That bumpy suspension but then I think German roads are better than UK ones, French not so good etc... Automatic yep I tried down shifting in tiptronic mode on a hill that worked. Going up a long hill it struggled to change up in automatic but the secret was to take ones foot of the pedal, it had thought that you were asking it to continue to accelerate up a hill and not change up... if you see what I mean. Perhaps you do that with automatics on hills going up.... this was a big hill out of the Mosel valley at Trier. The same hill in either direction we're talking about in this passage, changing up and down when entering and leaving Trier, it goes on for a couple of miles or so.
A lorry driver stole my nicely cut out headlight masks. We got them back off his lorry on the ferry and he denied all knowledge. Little sod. Is this common. My Citroen one fitted inside headlight protectors so you could not do that unless you lifted the lid. Still I got the masks, so can cutting out some more isn't a problem. He'd messed them up in yanking them off for his own use.
Fuel consumption, err bit hungry. Well one was going 80 MPH for most of the way. I don't have the final figures yet, need to top up again.
So yes taken to DSG driving without too many problems except when you do your standard set pieces like going for the parking space outside the house and forgetting it's an automatic... not good. I can deal with the lazy side of the unit finding the six gears it self and me just listening to the 2.0 litre growling as one accelerates. Yes it's more of a growl than my old Citroen.
Bucket seats are indeed very comfortable, none of those problems of backache and having to stand up once you get out of the car.
The radio / CD player is not bad either after heavy use. I won't be rushing to change the speakers after all. I don't have any complaints just yet....
Great looking car - miserable looking weather though!
I was going to drive to Germany to visit a friend in the summer and do the Audi, VW, BMW, MB and Porsche factories whilst there. How long was the drive from Calais? Where abouts in Germany did you go to - N, E, S or W?
Overal trip was about 1,000 miles return, Calais to Dunkirk, Lille, head towards Brussels, drop down to Luxembourg then up the Mosel to Trier [a fairly nice town] and then on further up the Mosel to gets those bottles of Riesling.... and sparkly from Lux.... neighbours Champagne region so it's all the same stuff. I do variations on this trip twice a year now. Black Forest in the summer and Lake Constantine last year etc. Fill the boot with white wine as an added perk + French world music CDs from Luxembourg.
Tell - any chance of some more piccies?
Cheers,
Scott
There you go I've added a second photo and posted back up. The weather was not that great whilst away. I should have stopped going passed the vineyards and got some piccies of it against the vines. It's looking rather sexy in the second shot - well I think.
