View Full Version : Getting new Ibiza Cupra... a couple of questions tho

hi,

I have decided that I must get an Ibiza Cupra, I drove one the other day and loved it. I have looked at the usual competitors, Clio 172 and MG ZR but for the money I think the Ibiza is brilliant.

So, before I place my order tomorrow can anyone answer a couple of questions...

1. Has it got a Cat 1 approved alarm and immobiliser fitted? If not will fitting one invalidate the warranty? Will a Tracker / Navtrack system invalidate the warranty?

2. I really don't know what colour to get, what are the most common colours and is there any particular colour more likely to have swirls and stuff? (I've read about the paint problems).

3. Do you have many problems with the scum trying to get the car? I had an Impreza WRX and was worried sick all of the time, is it the same with the Cupra?

4. Is there anything in particular that I should check for when I get the car?

Any other tips or pointers to look out for would be great, can't wait to get it :-)

I'm still torn between colours tho, I've narrowed it down to red, blue or yellow...some narrowing eh http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

Matt

1. I believe it does have a cat1 alarm and immob, can't see why a tracker should invalidate warranty...ask your dealer though.

2. Don't know what the most common colours are but one to stay away from is yellow, a lot of people have said it looks...well...not very good http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/redface.gif) I went for sliver (BORING) but the quality of the metallic paint is excellent....no paint swirling yet.

3. Got pulled over once by the 5-0, he insisted it wasn't because I had just overtaken him lol but apart from that no probs.

4. Check that the coin tray works!!! lol Mine hasn't worked properly since I got the car and my dealer has trouble fixing it. Just check it generally for scratches/ paint defects as the dealer should rectify anything like that straight away no questions asked and the interior...roof lining is v. delicate. Can't think of aything else at the mo.

Congrats on a great choice of car, I pick up my black one tommorow (more excited than Bill Clinton at a Miss World contest).

The alarm/immobiliser is a thatcham category 2 system (see www.thatcham.org (http://www.thatcham.org) )

Colour wise, they look good in all, silver is nice, as is black obviously, i like the blue aswell.
Bear in mind though that all interiors are now black/black half leather. Not Red or Blue as was the case depending on exterior colour.

Enjoy it, i know i will

cheers

Whats wrong with Yellow?
Thats what I've ordered.... after much deliberation... (was blue initially in my mind)

Still trying to get my head round owning a bright yellow "in your face" car.

No excuses for not being seen if someone pulls out in front of you I suppose!

thanks guys, I can't wait to get it either, if Listers can get a blue one quickly I will have that, otherwise they have a Silver one in stock.

I have also been offered the demo red one, which is rather nice and has CD changer and OZ alloys for £12,500... thing is it is 3 months old and has 6k miles on the clock. For the sake of a few hundred quid I've gotta get a new one ;-)

How long have you guys had to wait for your cars? I have been told it will only be about 5 days or so to get one. Coventry have a Silver one (+ red demo) and Grimsby have got a blue one, no yellow around apparently http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif

Saul,

You where told any colour within a week? I was told that they only had black, silver or blue. Listers said no yellow or red ones are anywhere. Not only that but the blue one is in Grimsby and it would take ten days to get it, from Grimsby? Are they gonna push it here ;-)

Matt

Best thing to do is go on the SEAT website and search for the dealers in your region.
Get the phone numbers an see what they got in stock.

I found all the colours available and they were all in the North West.
My local Lookers have a red one and the garage were i'm gettin mine has a yellow one. I know a dealer in warrington has a blue and a silver.
Get on the phone, they will spout the "hard-to-get-hold-of" line to try and get you to sign up.

Lee, could not resist mate, drove Daves at the track day and have had 2 test drives since then to convince myself, tomorrow 3pm, i will be a happy man!

Matt, I bought mine from Listers in Cov. It was their demo in blue but only had 200 miles on the clock, they knocked a grand off the price, it had only been on the road a week! Get down to Amethyst, I saw the black and silver unregistered ones they have at the weekend. The black looks wicked if you don't mind washing it every other day! Remember those OZ super T's are a nightmare to clean!

Simon.

Maybe there is now a 12 week delivery, i suppose it depends on what dealers like swopping stocks etc.
I would still look around though, you will have to travel (worth it when you pick it up for the run home)

I ordered a Ovni yellow Cupra a fortnight ago for del on 1st Sept.
Dealer has already confirmed that this is easily achievable.(We'll see soon enuff).

Whereas my parents wanted a black Leon SE and they were told 'October, maybe November'!

This 12 week delivery seems to completely random around the country!!!!!

Hi All,
i have a ibiza Cupra on order and would like to know what common problems people have experienced with their new cars.
I've heard about paint swirls, dash rattles (the demonstrator that i tried from Letchworth Autoway center had a dash rattle, but are their any other common problems?

What about the RSD conversion?
Has anyone had the conversion, what do you think of it? Is the performance HONESTLY that much better that it is worth the outlay?

Do Amethyst offer just the ECU change for the Ibiza (with the warranty).

What kind of petrol consumption are people experiencing? (standard or RSD conversion)

Sorry for all of the questions people, but i want to know what i'm letting myself into!

Cheers

I've had mine for 8 months. Not a paint swirl in sight. I had a small rattle in the dash that has gone. Apart from that a very happy bunny!

I haven't had it done on mine but have driven one for about 3/4 of an hour. It was truly the dogs danglies. Well worth the money if you can afford it and the insurance. It's a real Cossie chaser.
There aren't many real world cars that you'll be up against in the traffic light Grand Prix that you couldn't completely demolish. It was plant your foot and hang on for dear life! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

They offer it but wont sell it to you without the uprated brakes/pads. Which safety wise is probably the best bet. Also the strut brace would make sense at the same time to keep that power going to the road.

I get between 28/33mpg depending on commuting or whether I get onto the motorway at the weekends. Depends on your journey and how you drive.

No probs, in my opinion, don't worry, you wont regret it....

WileE,

You've made a good choice to check out Letchworht Autoway for a start. Top dealers...got mine form them. No probs..apart from an infrequent dash rattle!

Other than that.....not a single problem.

RSD COnverison?

Had it done 4 months ago...shortly after having a go in their demo.
Not a single prob. Major grin everytime you nail the beast.

Is the performance HONESTLY better? YES.

If you don't believe me...ask Tony at RSD...can you have a go in your customers blue demo. I'll then come up and give you a test drive.

Worth the outlay?

You pay for what you get these days. 3 year warranty with the conversion. I think so.
Just depends if you can afford it.

Ask the Amethyst guys about the ECU. But i think they get it from RSD anyway!!!!!

MPG?

Standard......probably 30-35.

Converted...i could get the same if i drove sensibly. But heavy right foot means i'm always in the mid 20's. Not too fussed...cos i wanted to have fun! Thats why i did the conversion!!!!

If you are worried about mpg...i suggest you get a TDI!!!! And chip it!!!!!

Lee
