Can we have a seperate section for new car posts.

its really really annoying to see every day that someone has got a new car, and has a thread dedicated to photos of it.

can they have their own section of the forum for new cars, which expires as per the shite you write section please?

I know I'm impatient, irritational and unreasonable, but after a while it does get dull seeing the same type of threads appearing in the TDI/Ibiza/Leon etc sections, - I don't mean to wish ill to those of you who've bought new cars, and are proud of them etc.

but there's only so many times you can say 'thats a nice car, have fun' until you attack your head with an angle grinder.

As I said I realise I'm unreasonable, irrational etc.

I'm in the middle of a very busy week at work (we moved offices), along with being oncall, and some new people starting, so am suffering from lack of sleep.

but you *have* misread my post.

I didn't say to ban the new car posts.
simply have a section for them, so when I or someone else is looking for info on what others have done to (eg their Ibizas, or eg: their leons), they don't have to trawl through a bunch of very simple posts on brand new cars.

Additionally the main sections (eg Ibiza/Leon/TDi) don't expire, thus after two or 3 years, there's going to be thousands of new car threads, which will mean 10s of thousands of posts about them, which will fill up the backend database, which powers the site, driving the site to a crawl. by having a seperate section for them, which expires weekly, monthly or even after say 6 months (this is posts which haven't been commented on in that time), it will keep the site lean and quick

A slow loading site is the quickest way to loose visitors.

oh and on a personal note, please don't tell people to calm down. I'm not uncalm, but you telling me that brings me closer to being so :D

I think it's a good idea & one i've been pondering.

however - people still can't use common sense enough yet to post outside of the Leon & TDi section....

I'll add it next time I'm doing that kinda thing.

maybe a 'look what car I have bought' type section

but to be honnest, i just wave my mouse over the thread title then decide if i want to read it - thus eliminating them

But like cpufreak says, it still exists in the backend database, which then increases the time that the system has to spend to search through it to find the post that you want. It's all well and good if you've got some kind of distributed db on some ultra fast hardware...

You mean like an introduction type of section for self and/or car?

I totally agree but just because you had a s**t day at work does not give you the right to drone on about it(I am off my soap box now)

And therein lies the problem (and what pee's me off the most)

but I guess most of the users are 'alright jack'

I didn't say I had a shit day at work. I actually had a great day, got a lot done, but am just really tired, which makes me more irritable than usual.

this doesn't grant me any right to drone on about things I agree, and I didn't intend to, and appologise profusely if I have done so.

It did on the other hand give me the incentive to voice my opinion and make a suggestion on something which has been irritating me. :)

Quite a few other sites seem to do a newbies/hello section which I would imagine would work ok here, obviously means yet more work for the admin guys :( but just an idea.

To be fair being reasonably new myself, I can still remember what it was like getting the new car and you just want to tell everyone about it as your excited.

unfortunatley not the easiest to solve, coz no matter how many stickys saying 'rules' or 'read this first' you put... no fukker can be arsed to read them (except me ;) ) then its left for the mods i.e m0rk to sort out when it should be down to us as members to read stickys and get it right.

Welcome area's are cheese city tho.

no bugger reads them, or they just all collectivly *welcome* them. which is utter pointlessness.

it's just posting for postings sake.

plus it's another section I get to purge every 30 days.

no serious people including me should think before they post it would save the moderaters loads of trouble and remember they do it gratas free(keep up the good work boys)

I agree. I don't bother saying 'welcome' cos others will do it. If you were to do it perhaps you could set it so the thread deletes after 2 weeks?

then you get members that have been here for a while(or longer) and upgraded or changed there cars, they want to tell people,of there new found joy.
its yet another common sense issue, can't members show off what they have and lock the thread behind them, then the gallery would be an option ,which means more work for the top bods, unless managed by users.
big circle

I think having a model specific gallery area for cars would help, so if people really want to look at pics of cars that look the same as theirs, they can have a look in there and find what they need.

I have only done these "look at my car" threads a few times, but that's because I'm a poser, oh and because everyone asked me for pics of the Cupra when we got it, as noone else had seen any proper pics.

The gallery functions - and it's pretty god damned cool - it's just a time thing

tied into your profile, rather than just a random photo thread.

Also stores the images outside of the database, which is good.

Chemical Al

thats a good idea, but if people are new and dont know what there doing you will still get them postin 'look at my car' threads
