View Full Version : Running in procedure
I'm wondering about the best way to break in my new Ibiza FR 1.8T
The handbook says "avoid high revs"
The dealer says "Drive it any way you want, it got a run on a dyno at the factory"
Various websites advocate a heavy right foot ... or not.

Any opinions?

the 20vt doesnt like going above 6500 so drive it normally and keep away from the red.
I'm keeping it below 4000 rpm for now (only have it one day). A bit of on- off throttle is claimed to improve the piston ring seating though.

dont dolly it, the missus's grandas car hasnt seen 40 before (14 year old ford) and i took it for its mot a while back the fecker wouldnt do over 70mph.
You paid a lot of money for something to enjoy and get you about, why not use it properly, im not saying rag it, but keep it below 6500 and it'll be no better or worse off in 5,6,7,8,9 years time.

Don't over rev it ; don't make the engine labour, blast it occasionally, but only for a short period
