View Full Version : Seat NOT offering AMD remaps under warranty

I popped down to my local Seat dealership (Sidlows) yesterday for a test drive in a new LCR (For the other half), and whilst out on the test drive we started talking about mods (Well I was talking about my Ibiza). Anyway, the saleswomen mentioned that Seat are allowing remaps without affecting the warranty, but only with AMD!!!

Thats the first I'd heard of it!

Has anyone else heard about this? She said its not something dealer specific like the Oettinger chip that Amethyst Seat used to offer, but a Seat wide thing. She said that she had been told about it by the area manager.

If true then this will be very good news, as if we buy the LCR I'd definately want to chip it!

Cheers
Ben

Have you called another dealer to check this out ?? I would be suprised if they did.

me too.

Well I'd be surprised too, but if we get the car then I'll be asking for it in writing first!

I don't think phoning another dealer would prove anything though, as most dealers wouldn't have a clue even if it were true. Many dealers haven't heard of or seen the next gen Seat models, haven't heard that they are meant to replace all 4 coil packs when one dies, and in one case the dealership thought the 40k service was the same as a normal 10k service and in another case the parts guy INSISTED that the Leon 17" wheels fit on the Ibiza Mk3 (Until I pointed out that the Ibiza is 4 bolt and the Leon is 5! :D).

Cheers

...and as already touched on, these are precisely the reasons why I wouldn't believe that your dealers mods are approved by SEAT. They're dealers. How can you tell they're lying...?

I'm hearing alot of this sort of thing with Skoda dealers and the Octavia/Fabia RSs. Quite a few dealers are offering what turns out to be Revo (it's a good product, why not?) but implying that it's Skoda approved. It's quite obviously not. Read your handbook.

I'm not on here a huge amount and I would guess it's been mentioned many times but basically if you worry about warranties then don't mod. (A general point not aimed at BenS1.)

The dealer may be OK with it but if something major happened and the dealer went back to SEAT who found out that car was chipped, I am pretty sure SEAT would tell them where to go.

Yeah I reckon the dealer are just lying to try and sell you the product. Good job for trying to get it in writing, so becase there's your backup if the shit hits the fan.

My local dealer sells Superchips, the dealer I bought my car from sells Revo. I bet both are happy to sell it but less happy to fix it if there's a serious problem.

Yeah I'm well aware of all the pitfalls as I bought my Ibiza with the RSD210 conversion (Oettinger chip) from Amethyst Seat, with a waranty, and several Seat dealerships wont touch the car now, and so I have to travel 150miles each way back up to Amethyst (Cheltenham)! :(

The local dealership said that it was definately a Seat thing and not something offered just by their dealership, but I'd definately get it in writing, plus I might phone and ask Seat UK and get it in writing from them too. I'd also want assurances that EVERY Seat dealership would service and repair my car, and not just the dealership that sold or chipped the car.

Cos AMD will come back with the same scpeel they always do saying the 'work closely with SEAT' etc

rather hear it from the people that would be endorsing it

"chris200" on here has an AMD'd LCR, and the dealer he got it from, and who service it/warrenty work it knew about it when they sold it to him!
dont think there is a problem in his case.

Copra

kind of a no, but it depends how you interpret it

"Manufacturer's Warranty on your vehicle, should a fault
arise relating to the remapping procedure."

the bit im talkin about is "relating to the remapping procedure"
;)

m0rk

if the procedure includes changing the ECU to allow more boost then that'll invalidate the warrantee no....
