View Full Version : Cordoba SX - things to watch out for?
Folks,
Just bought myself a P plate Cordoba SX - didn't plan it, just made a concious decision the other day that I'm wasting my time with my Leon 20VT Sport (I don't get that much time to drive) and saw it in the local garage.
It's got 76,000 on the clock ; I've checked the engine, exhaust for smoke and general wear and tear (decals on the dash, seat cushions and alloys) and it looks in fantasticly good nick ; hence I put my deposite down right there and then.
A lovely 2 door kiwi Cordoba ; just exactly what I was looking for when I accidently bought a brand new Leon instead!
Is there anything I should look out for / be aware of?
First thing that surprised me was the darkened windows and the note from the engine - is the 1.6 in the SX different to the 1.6 I had in my N reg Cordoba GLX?
Anyway, welcome me (back) to the fold :)

My god, people are really starting to realise how fine the coupe really is!!!
Im getting all teary again, thats two new children in the space of a week, if i get any more i may have to give up my job and get family allowance to look after you all!!!!
Welcome aboard mate, marty is the bloke you wanna talk to about the 1.6 8v version, im a 2.0 16v man and there are small differences in the models, i mean between teh 8v and the 2.0 16v versions, things like mine has half leather sports seats, aircon abs, traction control, sunroof ( think most have this) and 16" alloys.

oh and the glx had two huge extra doors, so central locking looks after the three thats left inc boot!!

Hahaha! Love it :)
The exhaust looks different - did the SX come with an oval pipe as standard?
Side skirts are very pretty too :)

on the 1.6 yea it was oval, on my 2.0 it was actually hidden, i got a sportstek box fitted which sits below the bumper, though i will hopefully be getting a powerflow system sooner or later which means i can cut a bit of the bumper away so it will sit higher.
heres a few pics of marty's machine

there you can see whether you have the same skirts or not,
oh and heres a couple pics of my baby just for good measure :)

if anyone else wants to throw in pics of their cordies to help greg and steve along , feel free!!
Mmmm, those white spokes look the business ...
Just had a scooby at Parkers' price guide specs - didn't realise I was getting so much car for my money.
Electric windows,
Remote Central locking,
Spots (that I had on the GLX)
ABS (phew!)
And - most importantly - an extra 25bhp compared to my old 1.6 ; that means I'm only dropping 80bhp by getting rid of the Leon. That explains the group 11 insurance :)
I suppose I could always jump in my wife's 1.9D Ibiza if I wanted to really experience a meandering drive :)
Heh - I'm getting all excited now!

depends what year the car is, the front and rear bumper's changed in 98 (i think it was)
upto WW****** chassis number had rear bumper with cut out and oval /round exhaust like martyn's and scottyp's
from VR****** onwards had rear bumper like brendy's with no cut out and pointing down exhaust
they also have different wings and front bumper depending on chassis number, this is on both 1.6 8v and 2.0 16v
soz peeps im very sad and look at the parts computer far 2 long at work, that's why im full of all this sad information:)

yes roly, sad!!! very very sad!! heheheh
but to follow upsome front bumpers are like petes and marty's, then theres the ones like mine, i think my cordy must have been one of the very very last of the prod line cause its got some bits and pieces that came as options which wernt available to all cordies all the time.

hey we've all gotta have sum sort of sad information 2 offer coz other wise the world would b really boring. and u lot couldn't laff and take the piss either :D :D
when they changed the cordy front end it went from the old gti style (same as the last of the 96 beeza gti's) to the same front as the 97 > gti's, they also changed the rear bumper (hence early one's with cut out's later 1's without) basically the front bumpers on beeza and cordy r the same, so r the wings only diff is the rear bumper which is longer on the cordy coz of the bigger boot.
i think i've just about run out of sad info 4 u all:)
think i'll go n sit in the corner by meself now:rolleyes:
