View Full Version : Anyone used SEAT Marshall, Cambridge?
Just wanted to fish for any experiences with this, my soon to
be local dealer...
Cheers,
Timbo
I was going to buy from them. Sales team can never give a straight price, keep changing, the trade in values are crap too. I bought mine from Garneys and Hill in Ipswich, also Bury St Edmunds now, and saved another £1000.
A mate bought his last Ibiza at Marshalls and this one from Garneys. He says the service now is much better.
I'm not a fan of Marshalls from my experience of them with Vauxhalls, poor to say the least, all smiles and no service.
Some of the Guy's at Marshalls are fairy nice people but the only reason I take my car to them is because they have offered me 3 years servicing free this is because they have messed me around so much.

That say it all then!! Having to offer an insentive like that to keep you, shows how bad they must be to start with. The Vauxhall lot were complete W**KERS. I'm sure most of the time when I had a problem they thought it was caused through dirt, 'cause they just washed the car and gave it back, fault still there untouched.
Heh - I have mixed experiences with Marshalls:
* 1st Test drive: booked about 1 week in advance during my lunch hour. I pitch up, demo car is out, sales guy on another test drive. Sit there twiddling my thumbs until some head honcho sends me out in a brand new car (3miles on clock) with some guy from the servicing department. Car was tight, I was not keen to thrash a new engine or new brakes. Get back to dealer, after very short and slooooow drive - sales guy flips, from what I could gather it may have been someones new car! That did not impress me, as I would be pissed if someone had used my car for a test drive. Spoke to sales guy about prices and he spun some story about family's, his and how hard up he was and couldn't move on price blah blah.
* Booked 2nd test drive, as my wife had not driven it and as we share the two cars we have, I wanted her to try it. This time, in demo car, nicely loosend up with same sales guy. Asked him about his family ie his newborn based on the previous story he'd told. He was caught totally off guard, contradicted himself, spun a new story. Anyway, I put that down to usual sales BS but was not impressed. However, car impressed me, and to give him credit we went out for over an hour on a variety of roads and decided we wanted one.
In summary, the car impressed and sold itself, but I my first impressions of Marshalls were not good. We then discussed prices, they were not willing to budge much and I ended placing my order with Wim for an import.
I am also considering using them for servicing, but have to confess to being a little apprehensive as what to expect from them. I will probably try them at least once and then look for somewhere else should there be problem.
Other than Bury St ed. are there any other Seat delears near Cambridge? I work south West of Cambs, so maybe I will try as far afield as north London....

I think theres on at Letchworth and Peterborough. SEAT website gives a list. Garnrys and Hill at Bury are OK, that's where mine goes.
Cheers. Thought about Letchworth, but a search in this forum and decided maybe not!
I'll give Marshalls a go and take it from there.

I've had my cupra serviced by them twice. They're expensive (125 for 10k, 170 for 20k), but they seem to do the work.
They diagnosed a chriping turbo as normal, and took a few times to fix a squeeky clutch.
It's going in for leaky doors in a couple of weeks. They want it for 3 days (constant jetwashing to test for leaks?).
I also couldn't get them to budge much on the price either.
Whelme, have you got any prices for servicing at Bury? Any idea if they're mod friendly?

The 10K service on my Ibiza was about £70, but that include customer discount. I wouldn't have though £55 though, I think it was 15 or 20%,so it would still only be about £90. I seem to remember 20K being under £150, but you are best ringing, if it's a Leon you've got the prices may be different. You get a courtesy car free aswell, just put petrol in.
Ring Garneys and Hill - Bury' on 01284 723336
Forgot to say about mods. Not sure, mine's modded and no problems yet with warrenty stuff, but they do car mods anyway, wheels suspension etc, so I should think they'll be fine, just ask but don't tell.
Interesting re: test drives.. With marshall i've test driven...
Toyota Celica 190
Had to go to dealership, got to drive it down the newmarket road, up the a14 to milton roundabout, and then back! That was it... Then it's "so you wanna buy this 20k odd car then?" Arseholes.
Toyota MR2 (new one)
Actually came out to me, let me (shock) drive it for half an hour. The salesman had a cold, and was beyond apathetic. Nice change I suppose from ramming it down yer throat.
SEAT Leon Cupra
Turned up at my work, let me drive it for a full hour or so - i picked the route (which i knew, much better as a test). Loved it.
I must admit my decision to go 'import' was one based on price - the extras are less than half price in NL which is just silly. I don't really like car dealers and dont think part ex. is a good way to change car (less hassle but a lot less cash). Marshall are expensive for servicing and parts (I got quoted 300ukp for a black-over-the-rear-window spoiler on my rover 200). The dealerships there do vary tho - as above shows the Toyota lot aren't exactly pushing the boat out. I actually got another test drive with Toyota in Loughborough who lent me the 190 celica *for a whole day* with the only provisor being if i stacked it i had to pay the first 300quid (fair enuff). Now thats how to sell a car! I went for the Cupra simply as it's quieter and much easier to drive with a Turbo, than an insane screaming engine doing 9000rpm odd ;)
I'll check out the one in bury as cambridge and bury are the same distance from where I actually live!
