SEAT came to Australia twice once in 1995 and again in 1999 offering various models including Ibiza GTI 8v and later the Cupra sport 16v. These were sold through VW dealerships, with little success. I'm happy to own both models, a black 8v with 152,000km and a white 16v with a mere 40,000km. Due to their rarity they have become real head turners and leave behind most Jap cars in their wake.

Sorry, just worked out how to reply. In relation to your question "NO" SEAT will not be coming to Australia, thats official from VW Australia Group.

Hey Donwich, you said 'rare'.. well I own THE ONLY 16V Cupra in Tasmania, it was the one of the very last available and I bought it just at the time that SEAT pulled out. Therefore I got it at a good price (compared to my other choice of Pug 206gti). It's a good thing to be driving something 'different' on the streets of Australia - because as you know, Australians are a long way behind in the business of cars, car modifying, originality, motorsport.... etc etc etc. So I'm proud of the fact that the ****** next to me in the lights in his Hyundai with the WRX bonnet scoop has no idea what my car is, let alone its achievements in world motorsport.
