View Full Version : Noise problem on steering

I have a noise on my Leon 1.8 20VT 2002, every morning when the car is cold, considering I live in a tropical country (Venezuela) and temperatures are 15-25 ĒC average.
The noise I feel is when driving uphill with traction and when turning left 180 or more degrees (also turning right but less intense).
I can feel it on the steering wheel; it is like something is forcing the steering pump.
The noise disappears when I push the clutch, this is when there is no traction, even the car is moving by momentum.
Once the car is hot and after some turns driving for 5-10 minutes, the noise disappear for the rest of the day, until the next morning or when the car is left for long period.
The noise is only when turning -even on flat-, driving straight there is no noise

Possible explanations I have are:

Belt is getting loose, not enough tight to activate the pump and not enough pressure for the steering on cold?

Oil transmission is too heavy on cold, until gets warm and less viscous?

Air trapped on the steering housing due to cooling and gases formation, consequently there is no fluid in the morning, until the pump purges the air?

Problem with some tripods joints or homokinetic joint, more grease ?

Greatly appreciate if any can provide some insights, suggestions and some other tests I could perform in order to reach to a solution.
My Leon has 37.000 Km

I also like to have the specs for the Oil Transmission and the specs for the steering fluid, any specific brands sold internationatly (Castrol, Motul, Mobil)

Thanks
Vince
