I have just been to the dealers and seen a silver Altea 2.0 TDi and it looked brilliant (apart from the tacky styling choice of the new owner and the alloys on it) It really did look so much better having all the parts colour coded and a body kit. The seats looked amazing in leather, very very supportive.

It just had that look about it that said look at me, but not in a show off way.

Food for thought afterall

Had a look at one when I was at the dealers waiting for my car while it was being serviced and didn't really like it. It looked too bland and abit like all the other mpv type cars on the road at the moment also the price of the car was abit shocking and can't really see them holding their value very well. On the plus side it did seem pretty roomy inside loads of leg room.

No don't get me wrong, i don't like the car - well i didn't until i saw this one.

I've seen several now at the dealers but none looked as good as this, 18" alloys, bodykit, great leather interior, fully colour coded, it just looked huge, but yet still pretty damn cool.

From the front it was very menacing looking, and it looked like it wa smoving when it wasn't - this has changed my thoughts on the Altea potential for good.

Hopefully residuals will be naf, and i could maybe pick one of these up for £10k this time next year ;)

So am i ! i can't believe it, the quality inside was great and it would make an awesome stealth car. Massive inside too.

It just looks so big you would think it was slow, but no way. Not sure what the 2.0 TDi engines are producing from a little remapping but it must be similar to the 1.9 with maybe 190bhp / 300lbft

Cost wise it wasn't too bad at 16,800 but you want DSG with it and then the mods so your loking at £20,000+ new or in a few months if there are any on 2nd hand market then maybe £15,000 + mods

Now if it had 4WD and improved handling then there would be a long que for them, come on Seat make us a 4WD turbo 300+bhp model.

There is rumoured to be a Cupra version on the cards, but no idea when its expected, history dictates a year to 18months after initial model launch is when you see the hot versions.

4WD i expect not, the Spanish don't seem to think we would buy them, and the UK get what their given unfortunately, even though it has been mentioned to them that we probably would like 4wd, market "unseen" forces seem to dictate it and not a lot SEAT UK can do about it, it seems.

More likely a 2.0FSi Turbo will be the hot model, and a 160bhp TDi i expect

I really liked the one Seat had made up at Donny yesterday. I am tempted myself. I drove the 1.8 diesel one as I have posted a while back and it went well and handled well for its size.

I've got a couple of pics of the Donny one as well (loved the wheels), but you'll prolly beat me to it Z as I won't be on the computer until later.

Of course - with people coming 'round to the Altea. This holds promise for the new Leon....... ;)

We'll just skip over the Toledo of course  :gay:

the one at donnington has changed my mind on it too, having only seen a burgandy :repuke: one and the piccies on here,i thought it bland ,the hot red one looked very nice, not sure i liked the chrome rims(or very very shiny rims),but it did make it look better

Ive just came back from the stealers where I bumped into Leo Lion R. We never spoke about this, but I saw it when I was in asking about a price for the Ibiza Cupra bumpers etc and I was gob smacked! It DID look really cool, its weird how even 18" alloys don't look that big when on that thing. Alloy mesh grills, all colour coded etc!

Would be great to see some pictures of this beast, it does sound pretty good with the wheels and bodykit but forking out 20 grand for a seat brand is just over the odds

I think the one they had at the dealers was a pretty basic model with the standard alloy wheels so I didn't really take much notice of it especially when they had a yellow ibiza cupra next to it

Thanks for the pics....I don't think they have changed my mind about this motor..it looks abit strange like the rear of the car hasn't been finished.
Maybe its one of these cars that you grow to like but does not look like a head turner or something that says I paid 20 grand for.

Careful! The torque rating on the DSG isn't very high, so it limits you on a remap. I am sure somebody could give you an exact rating, but I can't be :censored: to look it up.

Well the guy who has bought it, his own spec combined with what Seat had to offer as well from the Options list is getting picked up tomorrow and i never had my phone with me to take a pic :(

Those pics of the red one make it look seriously tame by comparison with this silver one i saw today, i'm sure djrichard will confirm this if in fact he wasn't just doped up on something and has been imagining meeting me there today ?

Maybe it was because the allooys were slightly wider shod with 235/40/18 rubber, and it was lower as well, the arches looked well filled ?

Its nice....for an mpv.
If I had to go down that route then its right up there but until that day. I hope SEAT don't read this and get the idea we want the Leon to look remotely mpv shapped in any way shape or form!

There is only one REAL Toledo (well, except for the mk1, but that was a hatchback so that doesn't count ...) ;)

Does anyone remember the Triumph Toledo ?
Are there any other cars by different manufacturers with the same name ?
Showing my age, it was out in the early seventies.

Well god darn it, would you believe it my time machine works and i managed to get some pics of the silver Altea.

Nah really i did get some pics today, i was in getting an oil change and new drop links (don't ask unless you want a long story).

Anyway the customer wasn't in such a rush to pic it up during the week so they were coming in today to get it, so i took some pics with the 6230 which i had to hand.

I've joined them into 4 individual pictures, and the quality is not great, not because of the camera but because of the lighting and my camera shake :D

So what do you think then, personally i am still heavilly swayed to keeping the LCR now that it is washed again.

Seriously, it's a top tip, if ever you are thinking of buying a new car for no reason other than something newer has taken your fancy - go give your car a decent clean and TLC. You'll soon realise how much better it is than the rest

Noo this is bad! If the next-gen Leon Cupras look similar to that then I'll have to change! :D Still to tall for my liking, but then it's a mini-mpv so guess it's to be expected...

Are those alloys official SEAT ones? Very bling! [B)]

p.s. you cant park for toffee :bleh:

LEO LION R
02-10-2004, 23:28
Yeah it is very big / tall / wide and that TDi is over 1500kg too so add heavy to the list as well.

The alloys are the customers own 18" alloys, Seats options are similar looking but only 17". The interior leather seats are also not optional on the Sports models but the dealer has a good contact that did them for about a grand for him. For some bizarre reason Seat seem fit to make the option on leather sports seats only available on non sports models ?

P.S. My parking method means i have no dents in my doors, thanks very much ;)

That's one of the few occasions when I would say that a car actually looks better in silver. Gives the rear lights a whole different look. By the way it had a great write-up in the Observer Magazine - http://observer.guardian.co.uk/magazine/story/0,11913,1332685,00.html
Hate the new Toledo (I'm sticking with my `99 V5 for now) but I think the Altea in the right guise is not bad!
