Whats the maximum tyre size that will fit the standard Ibiza 20VT on its original 16 inch wheels?

Having looked at the 194-45-16 tyres on the rims I would say certainly no wider than that.
I don't know what rim width they are but they can't be any more than 6.5" looking at the way the tyres sit - possibly 6"...

anyone confirm the actual ibiza 16" rim width?
cheers
Bill

6x16 confirmed!

I saw a guy putting 205/45s on it, that still looked okay, but 215/40s are AWFUL! So the absolutely maximum i would say is 205/45, though the original 195/45s are sitting better on these rims. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif

If anyone wants a serious look (wide rubbers) he/she has to replace the stock rims to 7.5x16s with 215/40s.

A mate of me has 9x16s with 215/40 with ~50mm drop, i can make you sure his car looks as the dogs b......s!

Doesn't the Ibiza Cupra R have 205/45 tyres?
So they should fit quite well.

But what size rims does the R have?
7 x 16 maybe? OZ's are'nt they?

I run 7.5 x 16's on my Jetta with 205-45-16 tyres and these sit perfectly on the rims. No way would I run wider than 195's on a 6" wide rim in 45 section tyres. The tyres on my new beezer look bulbous as they are beyond the rims.
Too wide a tyre and the sidewall will be flexing around and the handling will be compromised.

A few years ago, when I ran around in a Renault 11 turbo (er ehmm cough!) a friend of a friend also had 11's. (3 of us) My mate changed his tyres to a wider one going from 175-65-14 to 195-60-15 Yokohama A001R's (racing compound). these worked well. the rims were 5.5 x 14.
I changed to 195-60-14 Firestones myself and just driving away from the local tyre place and up the motorway, I could barely keep the car straight, scaring the s##t out of myself. It pendulumed across the lanes swaying violently. I returned to the tyre place immediately, and had 185-60-14 Avons fitted as replacements demanding money back - which they did.
A week later I heard from my mate, that his friend had crashed his 11 hard and had been killed, after losing control around a corner etc.. His tyres were 195-60-14 Firestones, the same as I had so many problems with !! Yokohama A001's had a very stiff sidewall for competition use. the firestones were made from condom thickness rubber by comparison!!!

The moral of the story is keep the rubber width sensible for the rim width. wider is'nt better always, and more grip can better be generated by chosing grippier tyres. Never stretch a tyre on too narrow a rim. 6" is not particularly wide and 195 the max I would run.

I would hate to see anyone come to the same end as my mates friend. (just engaged, everything in front of him etc)
