View Full Version : Adding an amp and sub to Ibiza 1.8t

I have a 12 inch sub with an amp running it and was just wondering if this was easily installed to the original head unit in a 2001 Ibiza 1.8t? I will probably get an ice shop to do it but I just thought I'd ask if it was possible first. I'm not an expert on ice and I think the stereo requires a pre-out (maybe?) and wondered if the standard stereo has one of these? Any help appreciated.

Hi mate

I just finished fitting an amp and two 10's into my Ibiza. The hardest part was running the power cable.

What I done was remove the panel in the passenger footwell (two screws). Theres a grommet in the bulkhead under the coolant bottle (its just a blanking grommet, no wires going through it) and punched a hole in it and fished the power cable through. It eventually appeared in the passenger footwell and then it was just a case of routing it through the car. i chose the easy remote option of using pin number 8 on the CD changer plug which is in the boot as standard. Then it was just a case of earthing it (i used the rear seatbelt bolt) and cutting into my rear speakers to get a high level input (since there are no RCA's)

Hey presto, now it all works fine.

Let me know if you need anymore advice

Cheers

Thanks for the info. Let me just confirm so I understand this right. You ran the power cable from the battery through the footwell, to the rear of the car and this powers the amp and sub. Then you cut into the rear speakers to get the sound from the stereo to the amp (yeah?) and then the amp sends this sound to the sub. If the sound comes from the rear speakers and not directly from the stereo doent this make the sound of a lesser quality? Sorry for being thick as shit just wanted to clarify this!!! I'm gonna get a shop to do it anyway but I wanted to find out if it was easily possible first.

Just take all the credit why dont you :(

Have a look at the thread 'Am i stupid or ???'

Full instructions and pics.

You will need Hi Impeadance inputs on your amp though - NOT just RCA.

The easiest way to connect to the speakers to to use spade terminals and push them on the back of the speaker connectors - no cutting required)

The sound does not come from the speakers to the amp it comes from the head unit and tho both the amp and speakers....

I just used scotch locks to get the signal from the rear speakers (I never take the neat and easy approach for some reason)
