As mentioned in a previous thread, myself and a few seat owning mates are getting booked in for next month, speaking to the fella that does it, he needs a copy of my ecu program which he will then remap with a similar program to revo/apr but then put it onto the car and fine tune it, he said that he would be very surprised not to see at least 230bhp, not being a fan of revo/apr etc he said that this way of doing it is more productive and wont make the car any more prone to going into limp mode than if the car was still stock.
Anyway, has anyone here ever went down this route, if so how did it go?

sounds like a similar way of working to jabbasport, etc.

prolly use a dimsport map, then alter fuel and boost tables to suit.

/me thinks he's lumping revo/apr into the superchips bin ;)

very easy to poo poo people when you don't sell their product.

I [personally] wouldn't trust someone who just slagged off the competition & promised optimistic results....

your money though

he said he was'nt a fan of REVO/APR etc.. or you?

**tumbleweed blows over this thread**

on a serious note.. can he point you to any other 1.8T customers whome he has mapped? Are they happy?

bill hopefully he will be able to show me dyno plots and possibly contacts to other fellas/gals that have had it done, the reason he doesnt like the revo/apr method is because its fairly generic compared to this way.
His mate who has done work for amd and a few others on the programming side of things, is supplying him with this code for mine.
He does other kinds of remaps and chips but says that for the 20vt this program is hard to beat.. prof will be in the eating i suppose! there will be a write up and pics afterwards tho.
saul, hes seen revo and apr work before, i think that its more a case of believing more in the product that he sells than what he doesnt. Im game so we've gotta wait and see, if it does wrk it may be another option for 20vt owners.

trouble is - and i've seen it with tuners before - just a quick change of ambient temperature, or barometic pressure & the car is doing well (or badly)

I've seen a Revo'd TT produce sub stock power on a dyno plot before because the software had been adjusted to show ambient temps were at 52C

just that the proof is in the pudding, not just someone's dyno plots.

There isn't really a problem with generic code - your car is running one now !

Custom remaps can offer a little more power sometimes as they are custom to your car but they are still based on a generic remap surely.

I personally would stick with tuners I know/hear about.

aye m8... best bet is to talk to actual other customers... as opposed dyno's which can prove misleading. (headline figures after all)
Whatever you feel comfortable with at the end of the day..

Good luck deciding.

That's the way I feel myself. IMO it's not as much about the absolute HP/torque gain you get, but rather a mixture between HP/Torque plus reliability. Reliability issues can easily be seen from the big companies, not that easy with smallish tuning firms.

hence asking other customers of theirs....
they may well be fine.

question of faith and the leap thereof

been there a few times myself  and come acropper on occasion too.

cheers bill, the way i see it, revo, apr, jabba all started somewhere. on the mainland you have a larger catchment and selection of possible customers. over here the fella is known and his reputation is growing and am looking forward to the event.
