Well I took my car in for service today and was pleasently suprised to be handed the key to their Altea 1.6 demonstrator.

I am quite impressed after spending most of the day driving around and inspecting all the features it had to offer. It didn't feel underpowered despite only haveing the 1.6 engine and was quite spritely infact. Couldn't quite get used to the accellerator pedal at first with it being hinged at the bottom but I am sure I could get used to it. Build quality seemed ok but I am unsure about the carbon look dash trim but there are some nice touches that just make you think "ah that's good" like the windscreen washer which as normal sets the wipers going for 3-4 stokes but also gives an additional stroke about 5 secs later to remove residual water. Overall I think it's a great car and will be considering one when the time comes to change but it will have to be the sport version which they had in the showroom and had far better seats.

As a matter of interest can anyone tell me what the electric blower is in the picture for. It appears to draw air in from the air box and blow into the engine, seems strange and have never seen that before.

Perhaps Seat are running secret trials of an electric supercharger, in the hope of instilling the 1.6 with some go!?! ;)

Hey thanks Cupramax - didn't see that button hiding there. Serves me right for going on here late at night! I'm in west dorset, work in dorchester but cover the whole county and poole and bournemouth providing it support, advice etc to schools and others - plus I spend a lot of time over in southampton to visit the lady! How about you? I like the sound of your LCR. Bet it flys :D
