Hi All.

I will be ordering an Ibiza Cupra 20VT soon and will be having it rechipped by RSD(195bhp). What sort of performance can I expect as I havent driven a chipped one yet. What car could you compare it to performance wise. I have heard stories of beeing able to stay with Impreza's and the like. Is this true.

Many Thanks

Ben Young

My unchipped Leon has stayed with a 911 and a Boxter till 90. I would expect a 195bhp Ibiza to at least keep up with that Jap Crap.

We have been trashing such a 1.8T Ibiza, but it could not deliver that much power to the road with the stock rubbers in my opinion. Every hard start means smoking your tyres, so one has to be a very good driver to get a good 0-60 time. When in motion, it kicks ass for sure.

So what sort of 0-60s were you seeing?
SJBSport say they do it in 6.2 using Datron Timing gear on the 200bhp Ibiza (RSD Chip I think).
I'm thinking about getting the 240bhp version but I don't want to just sit there wheelspinning everytime I go to pull away.

My plan is to put wide 17" alloys on for more grip, but I'm not sure how wide you can go before they rub in the arches.

Hi Guys,

Just gotta say that, as much as I love my Ibiza Cupra, it is *nowhere* near the performance of my old Impreza, I doubt the 195bhp mod would make it quicker.

Don't forget that the Impreza (even standard) is supremely quick and has handling that is rated amongst the best in the world. (don't believe me? check out the autoexpress review where it smashed all sorts of really exotic stuff... 911's included). Then there's the superb 4 wheel drive, it can get all of it's power down no prob whereas 2wd cars have fun and games with lots of power.

And if your thinking of taking on a modified Impreza...forget it! My WRX had about 270bhp and there was very little that would scare it, M3's included. If you see one with STi written on it give up http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif

just my lil rant !

Matt

I beat up on EVO's and scoobies all the time on track days with just 200bhp n/a 16v power. I have a quiafe diff which helps my traction, but in the dry I am 99% the faster car. (VW Jetta 16v) Scoobies seem to suffer from understeer quite badly in std trim.
Lancia EVO Integrale in the rain at Combe was evens, despite his 4wd "advantage" and turbo 250bhp power. I only have 2wd and a quaife ATB diff.
Maybe its not what you've got, but what you do with it.
Looking forward to getting the Ibiza on track as a comparison to the n/a 16v Jetta. I think the Ibiza will be the quicker car.

I wonder what the bhp/ton is between them?
Power to weight is important.
Traction off the line would be scoobie every day.. Once rolling though.. minimal advantage in the dry.

I pissed off a guy in a Nissan GTiR at COmbe last Saturday in his "300bhp" chipped and tweeked motor running on slick racing tyres. Even out of the pits on pure acceleration it was even, and under braking and through the corners he was history, even when his slicks had warmed up. He really did'nt appreciate a mere Jetta passing him on corner one and dissapearing into the distance... http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif Made me smile though hehe!

My 2 penneth as a track day regular running with these cars all the time. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif Good fun though!

your comment about what you do with it probably hits the nail on the head. I've got friends who have 'big' Impreza's (22B, STiV6 etc) and they can drive them *really* quickly.

Understeer is a problem on standard ones but there are ways around it http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif

Do you guys do track days at Donnington by any chance? It would be interesting to see the cars side-by-side http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

RSD 210 Ibiza Cupra.....MINE!

Revs 0-60 challenge......best time of 6.6 secs and 15secs dead on the 1/4 mile.

I AM KNOWN TO BE UTTERLY CRAP AT THESE SORT OF THINGS.

I had 17" alloys on....a full tank of petrol (i timed the refuel wrong!!).

Think i came 6th or 7th...def. in the top ten for FWD. Check the mag when out on Oct 2nd.

AmD Chipped Ibiza (195bhp) did a 6.4 sec 0-60 at Alconbury track day. HOWEVER, this was done by Dave Clark at the wheel...A PROFESSIONAL RACING DRIVER WHO DRIVES VIPERS FOR FUN!!!

The real owner of this car never beat his personal best of 6.8secs. His car also had Pirelli PZeros on 16's.

I never did let Dave Clark have a go in mine...so will never know what time he would have posted. On avg. Dave Clark was doing 0.4-0.5 secs better than all the owners of their cars. Soooooo....you can work out what he might have done in my car.

A Scoooby has 4WD...and will ALWAYS BEAT US OFF A STANDING START.

17's do limit your 0-60 times...but boy do they look good!!!!

0-60 are CRAP...what you want is mid-rang grunt to over take cars etc...30-70mph tests are far better. And i can tell you in gear accelartion of an RSD 210 ibiza is BONKERS!!

Not done Donny yet... but would love to. Its always been a circuit I've wanted to go round. I am at the VW Driver day at Combe on the 13th October though in the Jetta and Ibiza. http://www.autometrix.co.uk for more info if interested.

Tracksense have been doing some evening Donny track sessions which look tempting.

what about you? Any Donny track days you know of upcoming?

What no corners?
Similar times to me old Jetta when I did a Performance VW magazine thrash at Bruntingthorpe earlier this year..
0-60 was 6.8s
0-100 was 15.7s
1/4 mile 15.3s
max speed 135mph (gear limited to 7350rpm rev limiter in 5th) - modded g'box final drive ratio for sprinting. 60mph was 3rd gear though, and I know the beezer has a huge 2nd gear on it for 80mph!
I would have expected lower times, but the 17" wheels would have messed with your overall final drive ratio.

Many there at this Revs thing?

Having just bought a turbo, and driven a 200bhp one.
I vcam definately vouch for the overtaking abilities, i find a bit of lag in first and second but in third it will fly upto 100, the modded one went like the clappers to 120/125.

I would seriously like a to get mine chipped.
Just got to sort out that stereo, and the brakes, and the exhaust.........

where did i leave that £3K

Bill,

There were about 100 cars there....Loadsa FWD.....a few RWD.....and some JAP 4WD monsters!

YOU WILL NOT REACH 80MPH in 2ND GEAR....UNLESS YOU INTEND TO PUSH IT WAY PAST THE REDLINE AT 6500RPM. 65-70MPH IS A BETTER GUESS.

Car that won the FWd was an Escort RST with 260bhp....and TOTALLY STRIPPED OUT! 2nd was the Jamsport's (Jamie Going) Escort with 250bhp.....on 16's. third might have been the Turbo'd/Nitroused Ford Ka...but it wouldn't start after 2 runs.......4th was i think the 300bhp Toyota Corolla Turbo built by Fensport....5th was a Fiesta Turbo...and then me i think before all the Saxos/nova's with there engine swaps and things.

I think i held the SEAT flag pretty well (only SEAT there!)...and quite a few muppets didn't know what my car was!!

I could have sworn the demonstrators I drove (modded and standard) did have this huge 2nd gear. I remember Neil at Amethyst making a point of saying this to me the first time I drove the ibiza demonstrator. I had to prove it though...
oh well. I'll find out soon enough, but will wait until I've put some miles on my own before I start using the revs.
