View Full Version : Bumper painting
I was thinking to get those black parts of front and rear bumper painted. I asked from professional painter about it and he said it could be done, but surface won“t be totally smooth because plastic isn`t same material as those painted areas. Black plastic is also softer.
What kind of experiences do you have about this kind of paintwork? Should I replace those plastics with different kind of aftermarket parts? I will propably buy some kind of sideskirts but I would like to keep those original bumper parts.

No problem with a suitable plastic primer.
Had this done last week, Looks quality from a distance but noticeably bitty close up. Body shop lads recommend a couple of licks. Imp blue looks the dogs
:D
Fitted new coloured bumper strips to my Ibiza yesterday as it happens.
Looks great, the colour match is perfect although having the non-metallic Ovni yellow makes it easier.
If the sprayer takes their time and puts a couple of top coats on it doesn't look too 'knobbly'.
Hopefully getting the original strips of the Leon bumpers is a lot easier then getting the Ibiza ones off.
Loafer,
Out of interest where did you get them painted?
Cheers.

Hi CupraSi,
Got them sprayed by a local independant bodyshop. Friends with the owner so it didn't cost too much. In fact he hasn't charged me yet!
It looks great on a Ovni car.Looks just like the Cupra R in the banner above.
Be warned , the originals are complete sh@!s to get off. They are not really designed to come off in one piece due the slot/clip arrgt.
New ones are easier to clip in though.
I took a angle grinder to them in the end:eek:
Just grinded across the centre of them horizintally and then they pulled out easy. My pants are still in the washing machine though. LOL.
Heres the part numbers for everyone's info (these are Cupra Specific):
6K0807225H79Y - £14.23
6K6807425G79Y - £17.46
As you can see they're cheap as chips so don't worry about breaking the originals.
I'm guessing the more expensive one was the rear due to it having cut-outs for the number plate lights. Although don't quote me on that. I'm sure Flapper can confirm.
Hope this was some use, I'm off to check me pants.
:D
Simon,
Many thanks for that cos I am trawking for SEAT friendly body shops to do some work on the car and I lived in Colly for two years as well!
Could you ask whether they would be interested in looking at mine?
Many thanks.

Cruiky, where abouts are in Scotland are you from. I would like to get a chance to see what the imperial blue looks like with the bump strips painted. Just to see if its worth while doing it to mine.
P.S. Interested in coming to the meet weve got planned at St Andrews?
Check the thread in the local meets section.
Laterz....

What is it roughly you want done? The place I take mine to is tiny, just the owner and his son. Top job though, I've got my last two cars sprayed by them and its always bang-on.(Things like bonnets, front wings etc). I'm not sure if they do body mods as such, they're more sprayers than coachbuilders.
Where did you used to live then, I'm in likkle old Brightlingsea and so are the sprayers (9 miles outside central Colly, thank god, there is only so many Nova's and Orions I can take trying to race me everytime I'm near the town centre).
Aren't there any willing bodyshops round your way?
Well I was looking at body mods as well, and trying to find people that have already had a good deal from a body shop helps and you would trust them with your car a little bit more!
I left the Army this year and my last posting was at Colchester just off Mersea Road, used to hang around the Truck Park opposite Byrites or whatever it is!
Was flying around in my Red Renault 19 16v and then a modded Black Mk3 Golf!
