Yuw,

Does anyone of you has any experience with the VAG-COM diagnostic tool. Do U think it's worth registering or is the shareware version also useful.
'cuz I wonna hook my Leon Cupra TDI up to my laptop and do some testing.

Have a look at.

A few of the folks on here use the Ross-Tech tool.

"It's good" would be a fair summary! ;) View shared by loads of folks on TDIClub.

Mr Rosstech also posted on here a while ago and dispelled some myths.

Suggest u do a search ('cos I can't be bothered :) )

Anyone got one I could borrow for a couple of days. I'm having the downpipe and cat replaced and need to remap it. I want to get the lambda readings. Doing it next Friday @ 9am.

I think Mosser lives closish to you (bracknell)

you don't live on the shooting range do you?

btw - how can you remap it? VAG-Com is data acquisition isn't it?

Yep, about 1/2 a mile from the ranges, nice and convenient.

Yep, it is data acquisition. I need the data so that I can see what has changed to enable a remap.

Where exactly does the VAG-COM plug in? Is there a port inside the car somewhere?

Thanks
Ben

Ben, yes there is an OBDII connector port situated on the drivers side under the dash, in front of the fuse box. It sits on top of the fuse box and is a purple coloured connector.

Hi

If you have the cable already - I can arrange to let you have a short-term activation code to try it out?

Email or send me a PM with your VAG-COM serial number and I'll send you a one day limited activation code (full function) for you to try out.

If anyone else wants to buy one - let me know as we're doing a group buy at £130 inc carriage to UK.

If you were wondering, I'm the director of a company called Cister Automotive (http://www.cister.co.uk) and we're official distributors for VAG-COM in the UK.

Please see http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/distributors.html for details.

Hi Ram,

Does the VagCom stuff come with loads of manuals (For people without engineering/mechanic degrees?).
Basically I would be interested in using it to monitor the fault history and for reading the torque and power readings, but I've heard that you can really mess things up if you don't know what you're doing... including setting the air bag off!!!

Hi Ben,

There are two things you can do that are REALLY bad - number one is pop the airbag module (mainly on VWs) (£300 for a new one) or if you're really adventurous, you can interrogate the ABS system and lock the wheels individually and kill someone (£priceless!).

Trick is not to operate it when you are driving! If you want to use it whilst driving, make sure that there are two of you and that the driver is not the one using it!

There is an online manual you can play with located HERE (http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/tour/main_screen.html) while you can find a list of commonly used features HERE (http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/index.htm) .

You may have come across Audi-Sport.net who welcome Audi, VW, Seat & Skoda enthusiasts - we have a separate forum THERE (http://www.audi-sport.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=25&DaysPrune=45) where you can find more info and post questions.

Ben,

I can garantee you there is no way you can detonate a airbag with vag-com or any other vag tool (1551 etc)

The problems you can cause are more coding related, ie you code your car for something it does't have and you will then disable that control unit.

It would be usefull but im certain no fault code table would come with it.
(would be happily corrected tho)

Steve,

I didn't say you'll pop the airbag, I said you'll pop the module (controller)....

Here's the warning dialogue from vag-com:

Note my comment specific to VW also....

Cheque is preferable....

If you want to try it out you'd have to come and visit!

Or send me a refundable deposit less carriage and you can try it out?

Let me know!

Ram :)

VAG-COM download & FAQ

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/tour/screens/dtc_.gif

Those of you who have ordered a VAG-COM recently will now need to download the latest version of the software.

This can be done by clicking the link below:
VAG-COM Download page (http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/download/index.html)

A comprehensive FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section can be found here:
Frequently Asked Questions (http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/vag-com-faq.html)

The user manual can be found here:
VAG-COM User manual & Online Demo (http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/tour/main_screen.html#Index)

You can also download it to your PC for offline use by clicking:
Download VAG-COM manual (Self extracting ZIP) (http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/download/VAG-COM-Manual.exe)

When you download the software, you'll need to check that it works with your laptop. You'll notice that the downloaded version has limited functionality...

This allows you to confirm that your laptop and the software work, before registering the software. To do this, you will first need to ensure that you are happy and that the product works with your laptop.

When you are happy, you'll need to send me your serial number. I'll register it and provide you with an unlock code called an "activation code". Please note that this activation (http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/tour/activation.html) code will only work with the PC you install the software on originally - you will not be able to use it on any other computer.

Please note that NO REFUNDS will be provided for software or hardware once activated - make sure you are happy before you activate!

If you have a problem with the software and hardware, or if you are experiencing difficulties - simply return it to me within 2 weeks for a replacement or refund, prior to activation.

If you wish to transfer your software from one laptop to another after it has been activated, you'll have to deactivate your software and send me the deactivation key it generates. We regret that we cannot provide replacement activation codes, meaning you will need to take regular backups of your computer in case of any type of failure.

Any queries, please try using the search facility
here (http://www.audi-sport.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=search) or look through the VAG-COM thread here (http://www.audi-sport.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=25) .

Please feel free to post VAG-COM related queries or suggestions on this forum.

If you are interested in subscribing to the US VAG-COM forum, click here (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VAG-COM/) , but be warned, you'll get LOADS of emails!

Personally, I just use it as a forum for posting questions and answers rather than opting for all threads to be mailed to me... :D

If you really get stuck and if you have purchased your VAG-COM from me, you can email me on Enquiries@Cister.co.uk or Support@cister.co.uk .

Happy diagnosing!
