View Full Version : 20vt Engine and air temperature
Don't you just love it at the moment?
Now the air temperature has dropped to single/low double figures the car is performing much better. I've never noticed hot air affect a cars performance so much (my first turbo engined motor). During the summer I had to rev the nuts out of it every now and again to get any sort of performance out of it.
Cheers
Andy
Yeah, all Ibizas, old and new, have a tendency to get very hot in the engine (and inside the car as any Mk2 owner will tell you)
When Dave was running his up the strip at the June trackday, after 3-4 runs he lost all decent performance as the Ibiza Turbo has no good cooling ducts, bonnet vents (dependant on taste) or a better intercooler would help the car immensely.

Water sprayed intercooler would help me thinks.. Going to investigate building this further.
1300 miles and counting - getting better and better (mostly!)

Was bored today so did a few tests with a maplin thermocouple and digital display unit...taped sensor end (these thing come with miles of cable) just to the front of the engine cover cowl above the inlet manifold (Ibiza Cupra 1.8T BTW). Rest of unit in with me above the dash. After 5 mins of 'considerate' driving to bring the engine up to temperature the unit eventually got above ambient...and topped out at 25 degs with a bit of enthusiatic driving. Pretty bl**dy cool really...I'd started to wonder If i was really putting it in the right place. Anyway, I pulled into the drive at home, killed the engine and saw the temp explode! (not literally obviously). at 55 degs (4 mins later) the twin fans (useful touch SEAT) came on and about another 2 mins later wend off at 35 degs.
So the moral is...never stop driving you SEAT.

You could'nt try this test again with the temp sensor on the intercooler could you? I would be interested to hear the results of on boost driving and not.
Heatsoak is a bugger. Some vents would'nt go amiss for this for sure.
