I have a Navtrak unit fitted in mine. I opted for the proactive unit so if the car goes walkies without my knowing they will ring me to check and then call the police, track down the car and return it fully valeted.

The peace of mind is great. They also offer traffic alerts etc. through the same system.

Came in handy at the weekend. My bride to be and I went out for a drive around the Mendips. Lots of long open roads. We got pretty lost but had decided to follow the road until we came to a sign with a place name we recognised. We weren't in a rush, it was nice to have the Leon on the open road with all the little bends and turns and not many cars in sight.

Anyway, driving along we got flagged down in the middle of nowhere by some 17 year old numpty who had somehow managed to mount his banged out old micra up onto a grass verge and had the whole axle sitting on this small hill! Smoke was pouring out from his radiator. He called the AA on my mobile (at least he had breakdown cover), and spent 10 minutes with them trying to work out where we were. I didn't have a clue where we were either. Then it hit me - Navtrack. One quick call to them I explained the situation and asked them to do a locate on my car. Within seconds he had told me the road I was on, what direction I had been travelling in, where the next village was and how far down the road the next junction was. We pulled away leaving a very happy stranded person safe with the knowledge the AA knew exactly where he was.

I can't recommend it enough.

Hope this helps,

Tas, I had mine fitted by Tracker UK and then I pay the subscription and it is a good piece of mind for sure!

Doesnt even cost that much and it reduced your insurance greatly!

I had to get a tracker fitted before my insurance would cover me against theft on my car.

I'd say its worth it for the extra security when leaving your car, that and the CAT 1 alarm system.

Getting one V.Soon. Tracker fitted for £260, then £100 a year subscription.

A small price to pay for peace of mind....

Aye - there is! http://www.tracker-network.co.uk/

Any good car Audio/Alarm installers will be able to supply and fit it...

I had one on each of my 3 Scoobys. Opted for the Bog Std fitting and then £75 a year - done by the Scooby dealer (SG Petch Richmond). Never needed to call on it thank God.

I didn't bother with the Leon; different kind of car and the insurance Co didn't ask for it and wouldn't give any discount if it was fitted (Tesco). They insisted on one with the Impreza, which was no prob as it was already done.

I use 2 Thatcham approved visible steering "bar" locks and still pop them on the Leon at night and in dodgy areas during the day.

I don't hold out much hope for the alarm if it goes off and I'm not around. Who actually bothers checking when a car alarm goes off these days? The Police don't seem to!

I have to say Toonman, that if I ever hear a car alarm going off. I always have a look to see what's happening, because I hope that people would do the same if they heard mine.

I know most people don't (and I'm not saying I go off wandering around looking for them) even react to them at all, but I always try to make sure I can see the car if it's close by :)

Just the kind of guy I am....

As I said above I have a Navtrack unit fitted on my car. I haven't really looked into the Tracker system but from what I can see from a quick scan of their site they will track the car once it has been stolen. (I'm sure someone can correct me if I am wrong).

With the Navtrack unit they know when it has been stolen and will ring you to confirm if it is being driven without your consent. If the unit is not deactivated with an electronic key in 30 seconds of starting the engine they are alerted.

The benefits I can see are:

You park your in a car park for a beauty spot (notorious for vehicle crime) and go for a walk for a few hours. With navtrack within 30 seconds of your car being taken you will get a call and they will have already started tracking the car.

With other systems - you would not have known the car has gone until you return, by then the thieves will have driven into some lockup garage somewhere where the car can't be tracked (with no GSM signal or Satellite coverage).

By the way I'm not a Navtrack salesman. :D

Cheers yall
